The air conditioner, placed three rooms over from the bedroom, had to be on full blast all day to make the bedroom comfortable for sleeping. But for one of our nights - before we were switched to another room - we had an A/C that did not work. We could hardly sleep in such heat. We tried to call the front desk but the phone in the room had no connection. We walked to the front desk and no one was there. There was a phone number to call but only if you had international dialing, which we didn’t.
Sticky, we looked forward to a nice shower. Foiled again. The shower worked properly for a couple of minutes and then turned ice cold.
When we went back again, the front desk person was intense and not apologetic, but did offer to change our room the next day. Our new room had the same problem with the hot water. We finally figured out that if we turned the shower to the hottest setting it wouldn’t turn cold after a few minutes. But it was burning hot. Trying to gain distance from the shower head meant flooding the room.
Given one night of no sleep and two days of 2-minute showers, we expected some apology/compensation. They did comp us our breakfasts, but that was less than 1/3 the price of a room for one night. They didn’t check to see if we felt that was fair – in fact, the person who seemed intense, someone we figured was a disgruntled employee, turned out to have been the owner. He put the discount into the computer without mentioning it to us so that when we checked out the front desk staff had no leeway to make amends. And he, the owner, was nowhere to be found.
Other (strange) discomforts:
The pillows feel like you’re putting your head on a bundle of wadded up balls of string. Oddest and least comfortable pillows we’ve ever experienced.
There was a light sensor to guide you to the bathroom at night – but the light came on so bright it woke up the one still in bed. A dish towel over the sensor does the trick.
The breakfast was the poorest on all the islands we visited.
Our suggestion – come for dinner and see the beautiful view, but don’t stay here.

This seems like a brand new facility on a residential street (although I think someone said it was about 8 years old). Trees and vines abound, both on the property and along the street, providing a lovely green environment. There are two swimming pools – one indoor and the other outdoor - as well as an exercise facility and full restaurant. This last amenity is convenient as there didn’t seem to be any other options within walking distance. Velas is a short drive away.
All of the rooms are apartments, with a full kitchen, dining area and large living room. Our unit had two bedrooms – one with two twin beds and one with a king sized bed. The bathroom was large enough for two people at the same time – two sinks, toilet, bidet, shower and tub. The décor was modern and pleasant. Windows abound, with two walls of windows in the living room and large windows in each of the bedrooms. Linens and sheets were a nice quality.
Overall, given the size of the apartment for the price made the Cantinho das Buganvilias a good deal and the amenities made for a comfortable stay.

Breakfast was ample and good variety. Staff was optimal in every situation.
Absolutely would not have changed a thing and would not consider any other lodging should return!
Sao Jorge is not to missed when you are in the Azores. The entire island is fantastic, the people are fantastic, etc, etc.
