Aldeia da Fonte is a "Charm Hotel" conceived to be a bastion for truly sustained ecological tourism. Its edification was based on the traditional local architecture and involved mainly the use of regional natural materials, such as basalt, our volcanic rock. It is a five-building based hotel, perched over the sea, having the splendorous Pico Mountain for background. The surrounding artistic gardens, with most of the original flora preserved, reflect the care and elegance invested on this serenity haven. The hotel provides 32 charming accommodations, each with personalized decoration that includes restored antiques and recuperation of various objects, depicting history and local culture. Its restaurant, "Hocus Pocus," has earned reputation of the best restaurant of the island. An Oasis of peace and serenity, in the Atlantic Azores, midway from America to Europe.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I stayed in Aldea da Fonte for a long time. The place is absolutely beautiful, full of respect for the environment. The rooms are nice and comfortable, very clean. The staff is great. The restaurant is delicious. The food is always fresh. The waiters are delightful. The tables have proper table clothes and napkins, which Is a sign of sophistication.

The hotel is living on past reputation. The rooms are set in houses in extensive grounds. Several rooms have no balcony or patio and do not face the sea.
Room is a good size , with a fridge, but no kettle, tea or coffee which should be available in 4 star hotel
The grounds need a gardner to give them much needed TLC as they distract from what should be a beautiful setting.
We experienced minor problems:
First room did not have a working safe- we managed to negotiate move to a different room. This didn't have an outside light which worked and the shower holder did not hold the shower.
The saving grace is the quietness and evening meal in the restauarant- the food was excellent and staff very friendly.
Breakfast is adequate.
Management take note - take action before it is too late. You need more staff eg on our leaving morning the only receptionist was ferrying some tour group's luggage from rooms to their transport!

Wild place on a cliff overlooking the sea. The small houses scattered in a beautiful garden are spacious, calm, sound of the waves assured, Possibility of swimming but turbulent sea on this side. Quiet swimming pool overlooking the sea, a little dated, too bad. Very nice experience, the restaurant is worth trying very well. Top staff available to contact the volcano house if you do not have a reservation.

Like everyone who has a review, we see it that way. The location and surroundings are very nice. But the hotel is getting old and nothing is being done. The fridge dirty and the furniture rancid. Breakfast deficient and loveless. The safe in the room was closed and was not opened after our request. We were offered to deposit our valuables in the safe of the reception. When we picked them up, we noticed that they were lying open in the reception throughout our stay... With a motivated hotel manager you could make much more of this facility. Definitely not a 4 star hotel for us

The place itself is splendid! Beautiful views, an incredible connection with nature! The accommodation leaves a lot to be desired... the mattress feels like a rock, it's so hard, not to mention the thick and uncomfortable sheets. The bathroom makes a lot of noise when the light is turned on due to the extractor fan, and there is no option for just the light. There was no hand soap or shower gel.
The hotel attendants also leave a little to be desired, they are unfriendly and never answer the hotel phone!
Honestly, I expected much more from a hotel that appears from the outside to be a fairy tale.

This is a terrible run down hotels . In a 2 night stay they failed to service the room. It is tired and sorely lacking in love. No Mantainance . Not much worked in the bedroom. Lamp not working. Missing batteries in the cheap remote for the fan. Bathtub chipped and marked. The furniture was old and end of life. The area rug in the bedroom was all stained and it all just smelt bad. The bedsheets were stained. Sad as the property has immense architectural and historic charm. The owners just failed to invest and refurbish a property which no doubt once upon a time must have been a great hotel. Just squandered the legacy. You can still see evidence of great craftsmanship but now all a faded hotel. It all comes down to a lack of love.

Our studio was a little musty and damp, the bed may be a little hard for some but generally with a little more care this could be a great hotel.
What appears to be lacking is a manager and a gardener.
After discussions with the staff, the issues in and around our studio were sorted quite efficiently. Just a shame that they do not check for any issues rather than wait for paying guests like me to highlight them.
There were a lack of crockery and utensils in the studios, that none of the staff wanted to take ownership of!
The gardens, the swimming pool and the surrounding paths with viewpoints could be beautiful. However the gardens have gone beyond ‘rustic’, the swimming pool looks unsafe to swim in as the water appears to be stagnant and the viewpoints haven’t been maintained. The sun deck below us had a bin overflowing with empty beer bottles for the whole of our five night stay and one of the ocean viewpoints had a freezer cabinet lid just laying there!!
As I said before, this could be a great hotel but they need to up their game and possibly give certain items, like the comfy chairs and carpets a refresh.
The staff that I did speak with were very helpful especially when we wanted a different studio at the beginning of our stay.
All in all this hotel just needs better management and who ver owns it to spend some cash to upgrade some of its tired features.

Hard beds but otherwise a fantastic experience. The hotel is a series of cottages by the ocean and has a dreamlike quality about it. It feels like something out of the hobbit. Paths wind around the facility and uncover little nooks and crannies for chilling or reading. Other paths take you along the ocean and down towards the pool and sauna. My wife said she'd come back to just stay and chill for a few days. Our room, #1, had a main bedroom and a separate living room with a bed for our third traveler. My travelers just kept repeating...'how adorable' and 'how cute is this'. The restaurant was very good and we ate there twice, sampling different meals, such as the bacon/ham pasta, code and octopus bake and baked tuna...all of which were big enough to share. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and if we're back in Pico, will be sure to stay there again.

Other than the rainy weather every day we were there, and the horrible airport delays because of the weather, our stay at
Aldeia da Fonte was beautiful!
Beautiful gardens amazing walking paths, beautiful swimming pool over the ocean!
Incredible restaurant! Great rooms. But the thing that felt wrong and unsafe is the key situation for the rooms! They hand you a set of four keys on a ring! Once you figure out which keys work then you get in.
The safety issue is what happens during an emergency if you need to get out?
The door requires a key to get out!
Which key?
You would be trapped in a fire!
Also rooms need dehumidifiers!
Can’t dry anything!
Insides or out because of the humidity and moisture!
Our room smelled fine, but some places were quite musty !
I thought the place was amazing and gorgeous! We lived it there. But the key thing?

This is a very cool hotel with plenty to explore on the grounds. It overlooks the water and there is a cool trail that leads down to the water. There are also plenty of spots to lounge an relax along with a pool. They even have a whale lookout that you can climb up and search for whales in.

Is the hotel possible without a car?
Answer from Aldeiadafonte
Lajes do Pico
It is possible to arrange a cab from the airport to the resort, however we always suggest a rental car. Buses are limited around the island (one in the morning and one in the afternoon), if you wish to sightsee we strongly suggest a rental car for your stay.

Hello ,so sorry for the late response. We have minibars in all rooms. We serve breakfast every morning from 7 am to 10 am and we no longer rent bikes unfortunately, we do however have a local agency that books activities that could probably get bike rentals. You can ask the front desk for more information about fonte travel agency.
