It was a nice hotel, but it has aged! But, for Faial, it remains a very frequentable hotel: it is very well located in a huge, very well-maintained park, close to the city center and the port, we were able to visit Horta on foot; from our rooms we had a superb view of the port and Pico; beautiful terrace with armchairs, comfortable bedding (180), very clean bathroom (bathtub). The indoor and outdoor swimming pools are very practical on an island where accessible beaches are few. This establishment has all the qualities and defects of a very good old hotel.. The staff is attentive and considerate. Soundproofing is a real problem in the room we occupied: we benefited directly from the various and varied noises from the corridor. The air conditioning is very noisy and sometimes brings up cooking smells. The electricity in the room is mysterious: the hallway switch cuts off almost all the electricity in the room, another switch near the bed cuts the power outlets... complicated to charge computers or phones or operate a medical device. .but by trial and error, we get there! We have dined several times in the Hotel restaurant: meals are served buffet style. the dishes offered are passable without more, at the height of this type of restaurant. One criticism: cold dishes, cheeses and pastries with cream should be kept in refrigerated displays. The breakfasts are correct in quality and quantity but the same applies to the buffets, cold meats, dairy products and other raw vegetables. Another advantage of the hotel: the ease of parking the car. We ultimately had an excellent stay there (three nights) and will only remember its good sides.

Hotel is in a great location just above the waterfront with outstanding views of the harbor if you reserve an ocean facing room. Rooms are dated but functional with a great indoor and separate outdoor pool. The primary dining room provided a good breakfast buffet but limited dinner to a 3 Star buffet. The staff, all around, was very welcoming and helpful. Overall a good experience.

We stayed 2 nights in this hotel and it is clear that this hotel does not deserve a 4* but a 3*. It has aged well and we notice this in particular in the bathroom where we notice a certain neglect (old pipes, trash can which shows obvious traces of rust, not to mention the hot water which takes forever to come). Moreover, it is the first hotel to qualify as a Resort that requires a swimming cap in the indoor pool!! Never seen this, and have visited hotels since time. The rooms are very poorly soundproofed and you can follow the neighbor's discussion. In terms of restaurant service: only one impression from the staff - please don't stay at the table for long, eat quickly and leave! As soon as you finish the plate, they rush to snatch it from you as quickly as possible. Likewise, to taste the wine, I wasn't even seated at the table when the maître d' was already hastening to fill the glass with wine. Finally, if you are on half board, don't really expect much: the offer is very limited (buffet) and if you are lucky enough to share the meal with other groups passing through, we notice that the hotel does not doesn't really seem to have mastered the art of planning for a lot of people at the same time. This is especially noticeable at breakfast. In short, if you are looking for attentive and quality service, I think there is better elsewhere.

Very bad value for money. Room need remake. Shower very slippery. Mold in the bathroom! After complaining about the mold, no reaction from the management. Cleaning staff very nosy, talking very loud, slamming the doors, even at siesta time. Old furniture. Bathroom good size but room too small. The whole hotel needs urgently make over. What a pity, as the location and garden, even the building have big potential. Direct view to the habor and mount pico, the location couldn't be better. Dining room no charm, felt like in the eighties. Food not good at all. Nearly no vegan options for breakfast or diner. Worst coffee i have ever had in a hotel. Part of the staff in the restaurant or pool bar speak no English. Cigarettes in the garden everywhere ( why not install ashtrays??) No plants in the flowerpots. No air-conditioning in the Gym but too cold in the restaurant for diner ( felt like a freezer). The list goes on...seems like a tourist trap where they try to squeeze the most money possible out of the guest while making no effort whatsoever. While the management seems to sleep...

Dear irons700, Thank you so much for your review! We value our guests' feedback as an opportunity and a driving factor in the never-ending process of improving our service and Azoris Faial Garden - Resort Hotel. We are deeply sorry that we didn't meet your expectations. We will internally address the items that you highlighted, but I would like to give the following information: - Azoris Hotels has a plan underway for the phased renovation of the hotel, to make it more modern, comfortable and functional; - breakfast is rated 8.4 by our guests and we were surprised to understand that you consider the food not good. All meals have vegetarian and vegan options, maybe not the variety you would require; - all bars and restaurant staff speak English, maybe not with proficiency level you require; - there are bins and ashtrays located around the property, even in the garden. And, to be honest, we feel the best way to prevent that from happening is people being civilized; - the hotel is rated 8.3 by our guests, so there will certainly be something that makes us stand out in a positive way, contrary to what you have indicated. Thank you again for your constructive comments and we hope that in the future we can welcome you again, offering an even more satisfactory experience. In the meantime, should you wish to give us additional details regarding your stay, please contact us through our Customer Care. Wishing you all the best, Sincerely, Rui Moniz Hotel Manager Azoris Faial Garden - Resort Hotel

Essen We booked half board. We would have preferred not to. Uneasy atmosphere in the dining room, buffet in the middle of the room!?, staff totally overwhelmed, the food served very loveless, the cover for the food has to be opened awkwardly, the food is tasteless, never worth 4 stars!!, inedible coffee for breakfast Gym No air conditioning (on the contrary, room adjoins indoor pool, is very warm in the room), very very old appliances, no towels, no water
We did not stay at or in the pool. However, upon check-in, guests are advised to wear a swimming cap in the indoor pool. Of course nobody does! Only the location of the hotel is noteworthy.

Spacious, clean rooms, some with a sea view. The hotel is well located within walking distance of the center and the harbour. Also has a swimming pool with sun loungers. It is a large hotel where many tour groups come. The breakfast buffet is very extensive and delicious. You can also dine in the restaurant, but unfortunately not a-la-carte, even in the evening it is only possible in buffet style. Fixed price of 21 euros, for 6 euros you get an additional drinks package.

This is the type of hotel that must have been fabulous 30 years ago but, after decades of poor mantainance/renovation and lazy practices, has nothing to do with a 4* charging almost 250 euro a night. Let’s start with the positive: from outside, the property is beautiful and, if you have a sea view room, you will enjoy the stunning landscape of the harbor and, beyond, Pico. These are pretty much the only good things I can say.
Indoor spaces are run down and outdated. Our room had paint peeling away, rusty balcony, chipped furnitures, a hair dryer that became too hot to use after only a few seconds, air conditioning that at the coldest setting did absolutely nothing to cool down the air. All this can be appreciated in the attached photos. What I am (lucky you) unable to share, it’s the foul smell that came from both the old and dirty carpet as well as the air conditioning vent. Needless to say, it was not the cleanest room either.
Breakfast was disappointing. Even when there was still 1 hour to go a lot of the food was not getting re-filled anymore. The only 2 coffee machines were just awful. The ground was littered in food and crumbles that nobody cared to sweep away, the table cloths and chairs stained.
For check in we had to line almost 30min. I have also never heard of a 4* hotel that upon arrival charges you a 30 euro deposit for small purchases that “we will give you back if you don’t use”. Weird practice to say the least.
I have read in the responses to other critical reviews about an ongoing renovation plan in stages. I would not consider staying here until such renovation is FULLY completed. And even then, the hotel urgently needs to improve the way it is run.

Dear Erica, Thank you so much for your reviews! As previously stated in the reply to your Booking's review, we value our guests' feedback as an opportunity and a driving factor in the never-ending process of improving our service and Azoris Faial Garden - Resort Hotel. And we mean it! We are deeply sorry that we didn't meet your expectations. We will internally address the items that you highlighted, but I would like to give the following information: - our maintenance crew is always attentive to the operation of the equipment and diligent in cases where this does not happen the way it is supposed to. We advise our guests to always inform us when something is not working properly, so that we can quickly and effectively solve the situation, such as air conditioning; - breakfast is rated 8.7 by our guests and is often praised for its variety and the freshness of the products served. Please note that all fresh produce is of local origin; - cleanliness is rated 8.9 by our guests. Please accept our apologies if something was not as it was supposed, but rest assured that we have strict criteria and procedures when it comes to cleaning. Carpets are not new, but are daily cleanded; - Azoris Hotels has a plan underway for the phased renovation of the hotel, to make it more modern, comfortable and functional. You probably witnessed the works that are currently ongoing in the kitchen; - regarding the deposit, it is a relatively common practice in the hotel industry, but we will take your feedback into account when reviewing our check-in policy. Please bear in mind that it's not charged to your card until the check-out and if not used to pay for extras. Thank you again for your constructive comments and we would love to have you back and to be able to change your perception about our property and our service, having so much more to offer than the view and the location. In the meantime, should you wish to give us additional details regarding your stay, please contact us through our Customer Care. This Azoris hotel is a large hotel complex that has become somewhat old. The location above the port and overlooking the Pico, as well as close to the village is very good. The staff is very friendly and interested. We had a large room with balcony overlooking a meadow slope. The room lacks cleanliness:under the easy-to-move beds were large dustflakes. In the bathroom the toilet flushing did not run, that was quickly fixed, but only provisionally what you could see the traces on the tap. An extensive breakfast buffet is offered. Sauna and.pool inside and outside in clean and good condition. Exercise equipment was out of order in the gym.

The hotel consists of a main building and several outbuildings. We were in an outbuilding called "Corvo" on the first floor. The room was clean, very nice and spacious - with a large hallway. Here, however, you could hear the front door loudly, as you had to slam it shut with a lot of force. Breakfast was very good. If you were lucky, you could see the Pico while eating. The hotel is very centrally located and has a short direct connection to the city.

Though the hotel located in a large property, a short walk takes to the main street. Room is showing its age, but kept well. Comfortable bed, clean bathroom, good internet - everything for a hassle-free stay. They even provide bottled water everyday which is not normal these days; also, fruit bowl and robs. Good breakfast with ample options and the restaurant follows Covid protocols which is reassuring. Had dinner one night - food and service was excellent. Overall, we had a nice couple of days stay and the hotel is real value for money.
