This Beach Resort is located on the banks of the beach with ample natural wonders. Martinhal group staff members are well trained in the art of hospitality. They are all so sweet and humble with their guests. All of them are neatly dressed with excellent behaviour. This Resort is having different categories of accommodation like rooms, suites or villas according to the tastes and requirements of the guests. Whatever may be our preference, they make it a point to see that we are in the paradise. All rooms/suites/villas are designed in such a manner to have a perfect view of the beautiful beach. It will be an amazing sight to see the Beach from our balcony/sit out. Since, it is located on the banks of the Beach, the entire beach will be within our reach.
This Resort is having different Dinning areas for the convenience of the guests. Food served in this Resort is delicious. Since guests are pouring in from different countries, so many variety of international food are being served.
This Resort give special care for those who come with their children on holidays by providing exclusive play area for the children. There is a separate soccer ground for the family to have quality time to enjoy the football with family. For those who look for entertainment with health care, there are so many things like tennis, cycling, gym, swimming pool etc.
On the whole, one can have the feeling of being in the Paradise if you are in Martinhal Sagres.

The hotel is entirely designed for families’ confort. From child minder in the restaurant to spare toys in the sandpit, there is nothing you will miss. The location and landscaping of the hotel is stunning, and with 3 pools, 3 playgrounds, semi private beach, tennis, spa ect everyone can enjoy their day. The different accommodation types offer various comforts, and are mostly walkable distance to the restaurants and main activities. The restaurants serve fresh food (half board is good value), including freshly made food for children. The hotel is exposed to winds which makes it a favourite spot for wind and kit surfers but may be disturbing some days. We came twice (9 days in August and then most recently a week), and only had 2 days that were annoyingly windy in total. I recommend you book everything in advance such as transfer and childcare as capacity is limited.

There are no other hotels that we have returned to five times. Martinhal is truly special. Our daughter was 2.5 when we first went and now she is nearly 13. Having tried to get back several times in the last 18, we were delighted to finally travel again in July 2021. This time we arranged a return private transfer from Faro as we have not made best use of our hire car on previous visits. Despite it being high season, due to changing travel recommendations for other countries, there was lower than normal occupancy which meant lots of space and no issue with bookings in restaurants or space around or in the pool or in the bar. Social distancing was easy and with the layout of the resort there were absolutely no concerns regarding COVID. We felt completely safe, probably safer than where we live in the city in UK! The standard of food in Oz Gambozinhos is unrecognisable from where it was in 2011 when we first visited. It has possibly surpassed As Dunas in terms of flavour and value for money- shrimp risotto and caponata bruschetta a couple of our favourites! We hired bikes, did a family photo shoot on the beach and our 9 year old son joined football academy and got his tee-shirt for a week attendance! Despite the amazing views and fine food it is the staff who make Martinhal as fantastic as it is. Pedro, Rui and Oliver at the pool hangout deserve a special mention. They have energy in abundance and are excellent with the kids! Thank you also to Roderigo in As Dunas, Joao in the surf bar who made the most incredible cocktails and Joao waiter in Oz Gambozhinos. The staff in kids club are always excellent, especially “Marshmallow” who entertained the kids in As Dunas at dinner time and Egor the football coach. Last, but by no means least, Christie, who makes every request seem like something she has been asked a million times before! We really feel like part of the Martinhal family! We had another amazing holiday and it is without a doubt that we will be back for visit six as soon as we possibly can! (Ps: COViD PCR tests for return to UK can be arranged through the hotel and are cheaper than buying your own lateral flow test to be done virtually from the UK!)

When you charge prices like Martinhal does, your products and service needs to be impeccable. It is ok to have less quality but then it should be consistent with your prices. The food was really not that great, expect for the meat in O Terraco. Most of the foods were snackbar quality, which is not how you present your resort or the restaurants. The luxury villa had a rusty dishwasher (literally rust on the inside), a smelly washing machine and both were not working properly until maintenance had a look (and probably cleaned the filters for the first time ever). Also your waiters need some training. My recommendation would be
- Offer less choices in the restaurants but make all options/dishes GREAT ones. This is the standard one expects when looking at your website and your prices
- Install high quality devices in your villa's, I am sure you will earn it back really quick: high quality and good brand devices, good wifi on both levels of the villa, proper refilling of toilet paper and shampoo/conditioner

Other than that, the villa was comfortable, nice view, we had a wonderful time with our family and the pools were great because the water was heated. The personnel is very kind to children and patient, this is all very valuable. But I would take into consideration that your prices should reflect the quality of all products, not just a part of it. When you charge this high, you cannot permit faulty devices or low quality snackbar food.

First of all we would like to thank you for you review. The times that we are all living cannot be considered “business as usual” and we thank you for your comprehension in advance. Please note that we are not refusing to refund if this is in fact something that is considered on the Terms of Conditions of your booking. We have indeed offered our guests the voucher possibility but if by any chance it’s not possible for you to postpone your booking, which we understand, please be assured that we will honour your reservation Terms & Conditions. It may take more time than if we were living “normal circumstances” – and we kindly thank you for your patience - but we will definitely honour all our responsibilities with all our guests. Since 2010, year that we have opened our doors to the world with a new and innovative concept we have always had the confidence of our guests and this is something non-negotiable and crucial for us. We do hope you will understand that we are all trying to keep things going given these terrible times. There is a movement out there #postponedontcancel for a reason. To help all companies in the supply chain of tourism to survive. It is not just us, as you may be aware, who are pleading with guests to postpone their bookings. In fact, most guests have chosen to receive a voucher for their deposit and are choosing to delay their booking, for which we are grateful. We hope that we are able to host you and your family soon at Martinhal. Kind Regards, Rui Silva

We have paid €824,00 to stay between 24th until 27th of September 2020. Bookings were made before Portugal were added again into the countries that required quarentine.
I have attempted many times through booking.com to reschedule the days to a variety of options which we all denied by the Hotel.
The Hotel says we have paid a cheaper rate under a non refundable option.
Personally I booked a holiday for my family which due the new restrictions wont restrictions.
€804 for 3 nights isnt necessary a bargain but Im gutted we are unable to go.
By not allowing to use these credits into bookings next year (im prepared to paid high rates if necessary amd use my credits towards) the hotel is simply creating a extremely negatige reputation for itself just when the vast majority of the hotel industry are adapting its business model to take in consideration the volati l environment.
Martinhal resorts should preserve its reputation by working with its clients rather than simple keep the entire fee without providing any alternative.
The change of policy in the UK is no ones fault and by keeping out entire €824,00 is day light roberry and very negative business practice.
If you planning to book at this hotel trade very carefully.
Look elsewhere for better policies under these difficult times.

We booked to stay here late July on a fully flexible rate, and paid 25% deposit. However, due to UK government restrictions, we are now unable to travel and in line with the T&Cs of our reservation, have asked Martinhaal to cancel our booking and return our deposit. They have offered a credit, which we do not want. They are now not answering their reservation number and not responding to emails regarding our deposit. There are more and more instances of this which is very disappointing- we are repeat customers, and feel incredibly let down by this establishment.

Overall it was a mixed feeling. The view from the room was pretty good although the rooms were dated and lacked plug points. The birthday celebrations were pretty good but the food options were not good which took away from the experience. Also, I feel there were no evening activities at the resort as there is not much to be done after sunset. Apart from this the kids facilities were not open which resulted in a sub-optimal experience.

The food options were extremely limited. I was told that only one restaurant would be operating but that didn’t mean that there would no very limited food options in the resort. What is the difference between any restaurant outside and the restaurant inside the hotel if there are no international cuisine options. It is important as the resort is in a remote location and there are no or limited options outside the resort. For a guest who has come in during the low season has to suffer due to this business practice. For me this is a deal breaker - I will not pay so much where I do not get good food options. I will not return to the resort if this is the standard situation next time. The restaurant staff tried their best to cater to my requests but I feel it’s not their fault as the menu has been set already by the higher management.

Departure could have been better - since I had to start at 6:40 in the morning and there was just one person who had gone away to the deliver food to my room while I was waiting outside the reception building for over 20 min as there was no one to even open the door. A five star hotel with such a big resort should not have to depend on just 1 front desk staff to do so many things. I would blame the management for this and not the person at the front desk as he was doing his job to his best abilities.

My family and I had booked 8 nights for the end of June directly with the Hotel and paid 50% upfront. Per our booking confirmation we had until the 28th of May to cancel and receive a full refund.

I contacted the Hotel this week to cancel and request a refund and they have refused to refund our deposit. They will only offer vouchers for future stays.

We stayed in this resort last summer and I was so happy and impressed with it that I posted a very positive review to this site, not something I do very often. After our treatment on this occasion we will never stay with them again. It is completely dishonest behaviour from this group, it’s hard to believe they would treat their customers in this manner.

We had a wonderful stay at Martinhal Sagres. We had always previously gone on self catering villa holidays but we decided to try a resort to have a break from cooking and a more relaxing holiday.

We stayed in one of the Villas Mimosas. The standard of the accommodation was fantastic - very large, spacious and clean - a large living area, terrace and garden meant we could chill out indoors during the hottest part of the day and also allowed for some space when the children woke at the crack of dawn! It was a short walk from the main village but this was not a problem.

The facilities are wonderful. The five pools (including the one reserved for guests of Villas Mimosas) were varied and meant you weren't always tied to the same place. It seemed like half the resort was at the pool hangout - we weren't quite sure why, but it meant that most of the other pools were very quiet! The indoor pool was great, particularly for keeping the kids out of the midday sun.

The kids clubs were also very good and our eldest particularly enjoyed fox club. It was a bit annoying that they very largely fully booked up - perhaps people shouldn't be able to book them pre arrival? We didn't want to book them in advance as we had no idea if the kids would like them, so wanted to try them out first.

Eating options were good. We thought that the food at Dunas was the best, but we kept going back to Oz Gambozinos, because it was right next to the big playground so we could eat and have a drink whilst the kids played to their hearts content, which made it a relaxing and fun experience and we had our favourite nights there. Shout out also to the food delivery service, which was excellent. We ended up having breakfast delivered to us a lot, which was a great option as it stopped the kids running wild in the buffet and the servings were very generous.

The biggest downside was probably the wind. We deliberately chose this location as we were concerned that August weather in the Med would be too hot for our children and Sagres climate is noticeably cooler. However, ironically it was almost too cold at times. Our eldest commented that in the afternoon, when the wind got up, it made swimming too cold. However I wouldn't say this put us off, though we are interested to see if there are other resorts where we could get the same experience, but with less wind!

Overall this was an unforgettable family holiday experience and we would highly recommend it to any families with young children.

Different restaurants are open at different seasons. As Dunas and Os Gambozinos are the ones next to playgrounds though. As Dunas is better quality I think (mainly due to the fresh seafood).Menus are available on mymartinhalsagres website. You can choose breakfast and dinner or breakfast and lunch for half board, although I'd recommend breakfast and dinner as that is better value (dinner is more expensive than lunch) and also you probably won't be ready for a three course meal at lunch after a large all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast. I don't particularly think bikes add much - with a 3 year old you are likely going to be hanging around the Village Square and beach hangout mainly which are close by one another, so try to select accommodation in this area. There's one area at the back which is a little further away where the sports club is (tennis, padel etc) and 7-13 year old explorers kids club, but I can't really see that a 3 year old will be going to that area. Even then, its walkable. Not sure on the baby monitors, but if you contact the resort by email they are responsive and can advise.
