The Dom Manuel Hotel is widely celebrated for its superb location, nestled conveniently between the charm of the old town and the allure of nearby beaches. Guests frequently commend the pristine cleanliness of the hotel, from the spotless rooms to the meticulous daily maid service. Many travelers enjoy the sumptuous breakfast options, the pristine pools, and the comfort of the well-appointed rooms, although opinions on overall value can vary during peak times. The atmosphere is regularly described as peaceful and welcoming, and while most experiences with staff are positive, there have been occasional reports of less favorable service.

I love this hotel and knew it was going to be a great stay, having stayed for 5 nights in summer 2019. This time we stayed 4 nights and found the hotel still of the same high standard. The breakfast wasn't quite as good as it was in 2019, with certain items missing (including those delicious Portuguese custard tarts I love so much), but the selection is still varied, plentiful and meticulously prepared and presented. The staff all work extremely hard to ensure you have a pleasant stay, including the maids who do an excellent job cleaning the rooms. We love the location as it's only 8-10 minutes walk to the old town and the beautiful beaches that you'd want to visit while in Lagos. The rooms are spacious and elegantly styled in traditional Portuguese style. The pool area is fantastic and the beautiful plants make the whole hotel feel like a calm and serene oasis after a day's sightseeing or a night on the town. The only criticisms are that the pool water was too cold and it seemed a lot colder than what I remember from my earlier stay. I could never really get used to the temperature so consequently didn't spend as much time in the pool as I'd have liked (and as I'd done in 2019). It would have been nice to have the fountain running too but it wasn't running during our stay. I also think the hotel should have drinking water available at all times.

We were at this hotel in the middle of Corona restrictions.
The hotel was perfectly following the health and hygiene measures regarding Corona. Every were was hand sanitizer available, at each floor, at all the entrance doors, at the lobby, every where you could imagine of. The lady at reception was really helpful and kind (Unfortunately forgot her name). We arrived sooner than the check-in time but she provided us a very nice room with a view to the beautiful pool of the hotel.
The breakfast was wonderful with variety of options. Everyday there was some new surprises. Serving the breakfast was also very good. Only 4 people could be inside to take their breakfast in order to keep safe distance during Corona. At the entrance of the breakfast area we were provided by disposable gloves and hand sanitizer.
Location was very convenient. It was walking distance to the old city center of Lagos and also close to public beaches.
We really enjoyed our stay here.
Definitely recommend the place.

This small hotel is in a great location being just 10 min walk from the old town and easy walking distance to beaches although the area is quite hilly. There are several restaurants within a five to ten minute walk. We stayed in what they call the guest house just across the road in a quiet residential area about two minutes from the main hotel which was no problem. It also has its own pool. The room although just a standard room was large with a roomy bathroom and very clean as was the whole hotel and it’s surroundings. The breakfasts were buffet style and had a great selection of very good food. The best thing about this charming hotel though was the staff. All staff, receptionists, housekeeping and restaurant were cheerful and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for them. Reception would organise trips, book restaurants and help with directions and bus timetables. I don’t think I’ve never stayed anywhere where all the staff were so good. If I return to the Algarve this would be my hotel of choice

Room Tip: Rooms in the main hotel are perhaps prettier and more traditional than those in the guest house.

My boyfriend and I stayed there for a whole week and switched two rooms. We had to arrive late and the hotel was very kind to wait for us. The rooms are clean and nice location, but I’m just puzzled why they don’t replenish the body lotion on daily basis (only 2-3times for our 6 night stays) as we were at the beach for Sun bath and we used up the body lotion quickly almost everyday. Also, despite switching rooms, there’s no more welcome drink in another room, which we think is a bit unprofessional on the saving.

NOISY!!!!!!! Like being in a metal box with random people banging in different spots at all hours of the day and night. Impossible to get a good night’s sleep or a nap at any time during the day. As others mentioned, the city view room gets a lot of noise from the street — garbage pick up in the middle of the night — on top of the noise within the hotel from staff, other guests, and just any other random noise from Lagos that seems to accumulate here. Sounds like people moving furniture, banging, everything you can imagine. On the second night, got a good porno audio show from the guest neighbors, woman screaming at the top of her lungs (in a very fake and cheap porn way, I might add), walls being banged. Very crude and vulgar for the seemingly decent folks I saw at breakfast.

Breakfast looks plentiful but in reality, it’s all bread. Coffee is not good, only available from the espresso machine, which comes out watered down. There isn’t any regular coffee offered. No fruit and no yogurt. Just lots and lots of different types of carbs.

Rude welcome as well. When I asked about local COVID testing places that they might recommend, the woman who was checking me answered “you can Google it.” I didn’t bother to ask anything else after. Upon check out, i was asked how my stay was and I shared my feedback about the noise. The answer was “that’s why we have different room categories”. Unfortunately I booked the last room and I guess it was the noisy category.

Hard bed. No full length mirror.

The only pro was the housekeeping. They do a great job of maintaining the room clean during your stay.

Wouldn’t recommend and wouldn’t stay here again.

We stayed 5 nights in Dom Manuel 1. It is a small hotel located in a quiet neighbourhood.
Positive:
it's an adult only hotel
Room was big, with a day bed, 2 accent seats and 2 TVs, bathroom also big, with small terrace
Buffet breakfast was very good, many choices and nicely presented.
There's a small pool and spa (we did not use these facilities).
Very good location, short walk to the historic town centre, the beaches and Ponta da Piedade
There are 3 restaurants few meters from the hotel.
Free parking spaces available outside of the hotel.
Negatives:
Dodgy spiral staircase to our (attic) room especially when one is carrying a big suitcase.
Very limited English channels on TV (2 news channels)
Broken shower head on arrival and tepid water, these were quickly sorted.
Housekeeping did not remove rubbish for 5 days (we've asked the room to bw cleaned 2x)

This place lives up to its name for sure! As soon as you walk in the walkway, you are greeted by a calm and peaceful atmosphere. Everything is so lush and beautiful. The room was excellent- clean and spacious with a large shower and lots of storage. They also thought of lots of extra touches like a wine corkscrew, clothesline with pegs, and a sign on the door indicating if they should come in and clean (we were in and out a lot so that was handy). The location couldn’t be any better; you are basically between the old town and the beaches so everything is about a 10-15 walk in either direction. The breakfast was amazing, with so many choices (lots for vegetarians as well). Free parking on the street behind which was very accessible. And the adults only part was a bonus! The staff were very helpful and accommodating.

We were greeted by friendly Mafalda ar Reception who showed us around our the Dom Manuel 1 hôtel and had our room ready before check-in time. The pretty pool area, comfortable rooms, balconies, breakfast area and gardens create a lush oasis from the town.
We spent the day lunching on the beach, walking to the famous ponte de piedales rock formations where the Med meets the Atlantic, and had a delicious portuguese dinner in the Old town( at Taberna da Mo)- all walking distance from our wonderful hotel. The breakfast was all homemade and offered many international choices. It is also very quiet and respectful as I do believe it is a hotel for adults only.
Will definitely return!

I rarely leave reviews, only when it's very bad or very good. This place more than surpassed our expectations. Rooms are detail oriented and squeaky clean, beds are comfortable, shower is beautiful, a bottle of complimentary wine and Nespresso in the room. Breakfast was phenomenal and easily a $20 breakfast buffet with even vegetarian options included in the room rate. Pool was maculate. My only regret was not saying longer. I would absolutely come here again. Made our overall experience just superb.

I loved everything about this hotel. From the moment we checked in I knew we were in a very special place. The staff were very helpful explaining how to get to the parking area, how to get to the main hotel buildings from the guest house and when the bar and breakfast room was open. Our room in the guest house was a ground level and we had a lovely private outside sitting area. I loved taking a cup of coffee back to the room in the morning and sitting outside while contemplating what the day had in store for us.
The room was large, the bed very comfortable, the bathroom spacious. I loved the tiling in the bathroom and have dreams of recreating it at home!
There are several great restaurants within a 10 min easy walk. Best to make a reservation.
Thank you very much for making our last couple of days in Portugal so special

Take a car- either rental or shuttle. Train is too slow and stops frequently as a local. We took a shuttle a little expensive but very convenient and we were going back to Lisbon for a few days so no rental car to return. Be aware there are no elevators at the hotel.

There was just a news channel in English. There is a good wifi signal and as far as I know there are showers in every room. They are very spacious and well designed shower rooms. You can specify when you book.
