Whilst still very nervous about recommencing holidays, we thought through some places we had previously visited and decided the Falesia ticked a lot of boxes. Hence, we returned for the first time since 2009, although this would be our fourth visit in total. Why did we leave it so long? Reception were courteous and efficient, the dining room as stylish as ever with tables well spaced out. The rooms were spacious and well appointed with a huge and comfortable bed. The extras of kettle, fridge and safe were also, an added bonus. Everywhere about the hotel was spotless. We love the garden areas and sunbeds were plentiful both here and around the pool and not jammed in. The food was varied and of good quality. On ten out of 14 days I was the sole user for an hour of the indoor swimming pool; the booking system again helping to ensure safety. I just wished there were gym facilities too, but there are some nice walks locally. We didn’t tend to bother much with bar and entertainment so can’t really comment. If rest and relaxation is what you are after, then you can’t really beat the Falesia. We’ve already booked for next year!

In these strange covid times, we were unsure of what to expect but certainly need not have been concerned. Our whole experience at the Falesia was excellent from start to finish. We celebrated our 40th anniversary and it was made very special for us - thank you. The upgraded suite, champagne and message of congratulations from the hotel was a really lovely touch. All staff without exception were polite, friendly, helpful and covid aware. The hotel was spotlessly clean and cleaning staff were vigilant in their work. The breakfast and dinner buffets provided a really good selection of well cooked food. Catering for many different nationalities is not easy but the Falesia seemed to have it covered. Cocktails were made to order and delicious. I have never given a 5 star review before, but for us, the Falesia deserves every one of them.

We know COVID has affected things but we didn’t believe we had gone back to the same hotel. I don’t know where the other reviewers have been. We used to love this hotel. Absolutely dead, no atmosphere. Very limited entertainment at 9.00pm each evening. Hardly anyone bothered to go. Very poor quality food. You had to search very hard for something worth having. Hunt the prawn in the salad. A tiny piece of feta cheese with one piece of cucumber and a slice of onion in a little dish as if it is special. Do the management think we are stupid. We used to love the food. Lots of things missing, sparkling wine at breakfast, happy hour, minimum toiletries two cheap shower gels, no tissues. They are very obviously trying to the claw lost money back and think we won’t notice. They are also charging 5 euros for a bucket of ice which you had to collect yourself - beware. The worst though was a welcome back treat. Two horrible chocolates and a tiny miniature port between the two of us. Really!! If you are going to give something give with a generous heart! Not even a try at a dress code. We know guests want to relax but, vests, flipflops. trainers, you could have been in a gym. If you had gone down to breakfast in your dressing gown pyjamas and slippers you would have been let in. Also a lot of COVID rules not enforced towards the end of our stay and I didn’t feel safe. The staff were lovely, friendly and polite except for a certain young arrogant man on reception, obviously in the wrong job, customer service. I was polite but instead of saying I am sorry you are not happy I will sort it, he started arguing with me and saying this is how we do things here, Really! We went through a lot of hassle to get to Portugal, extra tests etc. We wished we hadn’t bothered and gone to Spain.

Dear Guests, It is rather disappointing to read your review and to see that you continue using your unfriendly and abrupt approach to the hotel staff – same what you were doing while visiting the hotel. Nothing has changed there but the world has changed with the pandemic. I am not very sure if you really appreciate the actual Covid-19 effect on the whole travel industry. You might say “Not my problem! Deal with it!” Falesia Hotel was very much trying to please our / tour operator customers, as big majority of the guests (around 90%) were British and we loved working with them for the last 15 years! However, due to Covid-19, our favourite GOLD product was cancelled for 2020 and 2021 and there was a little hope that Boris Johnson, would let some British still to go abroad, in 2021. Tour operator changed the Gold programme to Platinum, which also means that entertainment, as one of the main features in Gold, nearly disappeared. Just standard entertainment in the evenings, which we kept and had to adjust to other nationalities, too. All the changes were agreed between us and the tour operator. Customers were advised about the changes. Falesia Hotel would be operating as one of the Platinum hotels in the Algarve. However, whatever was still left from the original product, very little of that has been used by very few British the customers that still kept the reservation inspite of the Covid-19 rules and the extra costs that were brought with it. With all above, we had to think fast and see what can be done. With very few periods that British customers could travel, there was very few of those who decided to travel. And we were lucky enough to manage to get to the local Portuguese market with the help of some of our neighbours and some German /Dutch/ Belgium/ French customers. The mixture of nationalities changed and the Portuguese replaced the British. We had to change accordingly. The Portuguese would not have dinner at 18.30 as they would still all be on the beach and entertainment wise – as they are travelling by their own cars – they would be visiting anything that was of their interest and was operating and the hotel bar was not their top priority and was used by a lot less customers as in the past. And you were in doubt if Covid-19 really changed that much! It definitely changed most of our operation! Apart from dinner being served at later time, they also did not appreciate the formal approach but preferred much more relaxed atmosphere in the dining room. But let me correct you! Standards were still kept as shorts were allowed for gentlemen – but they would need to be formal shorts and shirts. Nobody would be able to get in sport entire – although there was a gentleman that tried but not succeeded when trying to get into restaurant in his hotel white bathrobe. There were no games or any other activities around the pool as current customers did not appreciate anything like that, except occasional music at the pool bar. It is difficult (if not impossible) to keep the social distance rules in place with any games – or even dancing! There was very little change in food. Service needed to adjust to the Portuguese Health Authorities rules and regulations but we tried to keep the changes to as little as possible but at no point making less of importance to health and safety rules and regulations. Your sarcastic comment about the “hunting the prawn in the salad or tiny piece of feta cheese” ….was there also in May 2019 and it is just a bit more sophisticated way of serving the starters…. Which you obviously did not appreciate. Happy hour was still there daily and nothing has changed with the toiletries. Also, in our point of view, it is not how big and how many items are included in the welcome gift, but it is the thought that counts. Greediness has got nothing to do with it. It is just simple recognition and if you do not like it, you should ignore it and not making sarcastic comments about it! As anywhere else in the world, Covid-19 restrictions are luckily getting slowly relaxed all over the world – including Portugal, which happened on 19th September and that is where you noticed some changes. But it is still safer here in Portugal then in other destinations. And let´s close it with one conclusion. With Covid-19 the whole world has changed and with it – also Falesia Hotel. But only, where we had to, in order to keep the hotel safe for customers and staff. And all within the government Health Authorities rules. Kind regards,

We had spent a week at a different hotel in Albufuria for our wedding and then transferred to the falesia for our honeymoon. On arrival we were overwhelmed by the hospitality our room had been upgraded and decorated with hearts , sweets and a bottle of drink. HOWEVER  our experience went horribly downhill and our first honeymoon night which we can never get back was totally  ruined by a rude and arrogant bar manager,  who accused us of deliberately  writing our room number wrong on a drinks receipt to avoid payment, then when the bar waiter admitted it was him that wrote it wrong, he still continued to shout getting in our faces saying it was still our problem, he was very threatening and aggressive never in my life have I experienced such bad behaviour by a staff member, it was so embarrassing as he did it in front of a entertainment room full of other guests. We said we wanted to speak with a hotel manager and the hotel supervisor came to see us ,  he got us drinks and apologised to us , and did try to make our stay comfortable, but the damage had already been done. We went to our room in a state of upset and disbelief. We spent all week on edge incase he started again. But tried to make the best of the week we had booked there. The rest of the staff were very friendly. The bar tender at the pool bar was so funny, The hotel gardens were lovely and the evening  entertainment was quiet good,  however there was nothing much to do during the day, a family member had gone to the same hotel 3 years ago when the hotel had a lot going on during the day around the pool and on the outside stage with a weekly bbq, cocktail making etc. And before anyone mentions the covid excuses the hotel we stayed at the first week in the same area of albufuria did have things going on during the day . The heated indoor pool was actually colder than the outside pool. Sunbeds didn't seem too  much of an issue however  people were told at check in not to reserve or move them but this was ignored and no one implemented any rules, However no one explained the restaurant rules to begin with, which was confusing with many guests taking other guests tables, you were sent to get your meal while your table was being got ready and often waited long periods of time for a drink at one point we had finished our meal before ordering a drink. The hotel is ideal if you want to lay quietly around the pool or in the gardens all day every day but doesnt really have much else to offer.

Dear Guests, Thank you for your review and sorry to see that your holiday did not go as per your expectations. Specially disappointing as it was your honeymoon. We have tried our very best but unfortunately one incident spoilt your honeymoon. I do apologise again for the misunderstanding which ended up in an argument and followed by the apologies of the restaurant / bar manager. As per your observation the rest of the staff was very friendly and it is a pity that you could not start from the scratch and enjoy your stay to the full. Misunderstandings can happen and it is great if people can be friends again after the incident. The corona virus is very much affecting our operation, and we are firmly sticking to the rules and regulations of the Portuguese Health Authorities in order to keep our guests and staff safe and healthy. In the past the big majority of the guests in our hotel, were TUI UK customers and they were running very specific programme with entertainment being one of the main points. Corona Virus cancelled the TUI programme and very few customers were left. Demographics changed and luckily domestic market has taken over with some changes in our hotel operation, one of those being entertainment. There was very little interest into day time pool activities and it had to be cancelled with only occasional activity during the high season. As far as the sunbeds and restaurant rules go, one can one politely ask the guests to be part of the community and respect each other. Nobody wants to be policemen as uncomfortable situations can appear very easily, and as per your own experience, can spoil one’s holidays and all the good work that is done by the staff all through customers holidays. Once again, sorry for the misunderstanding and hope we can welcome you again sometime in the future. Yours sincerely Carlos Franco General Manager

My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights in September. We were very impressed from the welcome drinks on arrival, a lovely touch. The room was excellent, clean and spacious with a fridge for our drinks as well as a fresh 1.5l bottle of water each day. The restaurant for breakfast and evening meal was well organised and great food. The staff work so quickly to keep it clean and quick to get drinks in the evening. The pool was lovely and the bar and restaurant at lunch time were great addition. Also, we booked a couple massage outside in the garden which was great value. Would definitely recommend. If we were to go again we would probably hire a car and drive around more, but as we wanted a relaxing break, we just used uber to get around for a couple of days and walked the rest.
