We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. The road to it through the town is 'interesting' and not recommended for too large a vehicle, but it is so worth it. There is free public parking close to the entrance. The location is fantastic at the top of the town close to the Castle. The receptionist was very friendly and spoke excellent English. Our room like others was cleverly set into the old building. Some have fantastic views down the valley. It was clean and contained everything you could need. My wife found the bed too hard but the staff did their best to rectify this. Breakfast was plentiful and excellent. The bar, owned by the hotel, is located across the road and includes a parrot. We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if in Marvao.
Great place for a weekend getaway. Very nice staff and very charming hotel. Small rooms but big enough to unwind after a nice day strolling around Marvão. Think about your grandma’s house and that’s the feeling you get here. Duly recommended!!
My visit to Marvao was one of the highlights of my travels in Portugal -- or anywhere else, really -- and staying at the Dom Dinis was one of the reasons why. I had noticed that this hotel was consistently recommended in travel articles about Marvao over the years, and for good reason. I arrived shortly before sunset, but the manager gave me great directions by telephone to enable me to find my way through Marvao's streets (most of which are pedestrian only) up to the top of the town where the hotel is located. There is plenty of parking when you arrive. The hotel fronts on a small square and an elaborate garden with the town museum (in a converted church) on the other side of it and the castle beyond the garden at the top of the hill. My room (# 14) was small, but comfortable, with a modern bathroom and a view towards the castle. A good and filling breakfast was served on a terrace with to-die-for views out over the Serra de Mamede. I was able to get up in the morning and walk up to the castle at 7:30 a.m. and tour through it when I had the place to myself before breakfast. Marvao itself, though small, has a couple of good restaurants (one of which, the Varanda, is owned by members of the same family that owns the Dom Dinis). Beyond that, however, the town has a timeless, end-of-the-world feeling: the silence once dark descends is deep as velvet. And the price of my night's stay with breakfast was $80 US. Does travel get any better than that?…
This is one my favorite stays on our trip. The staff bent over backwards to make sure we were taken care of. The views were spectacular. The area is quiet almost contemplative. There are only 2 restaurants and a bar so no night life. But you are staying at a castle so how cool is that.
Well, even writing about this place and reminiscing it provokes only positive and marvellous moods :). A very relaxing place, indeed, with beautiful atmosphere, personnel, rooms, service and views :). Everything was clean, towels were white and thick, water was hot and your dreams - like in fairy-tales despite the weather conditions :). No problems with Wi-Fi and it's easy to park your car close to the hotel. Travelling around Portugal you are to be accustomed not to have any variability or variety in course of your breakfasts like in Spain, for example - even the smallest breakfast in Greece would be bigger than in Portugal but, at least, here, in Dom Dinis you'll have good authentic bread, adequate meat of two sorts and not bad cheese with coffee in volumes you wish :))... · Only one thing to improve - the duration of our staying:) at this magic place.... Strongly recommended planning your tour around the country to devote some 2-3 nights of complete relax to this hotel particularly to catch the energy for your further voyage and life :)).…
