This is a classy 5 star hotel situated up on top of a mountain in Marvao Portugal. The rooms all have incredible views stretching out into Portugal in one direction and into Spain from another. It is in a town built in Medieval times. The hotel is absolutely incredible, and in the off season it is reasonably priced for what...

Although the hotel is in the centre of the historical village, you can park the car very nearby. Breakfast was served at the table and it was everything you could wish, in one word fantastic. The view from the breakfast space was spectacular. The room was comfortable, but rather small, and because the room was just opposite the staircase on...

Marvão is an amazing small village and I have been wanting to come here for years and I chose the "pousada" because there is usually a glamour associated with this chain of hotels. The staff is very friendly but clearly not enough to run this place and there is a kind of feeling that the maintenance is not kept updated....

This hotel is set in two refurbished farmhouses on a mountain top between the Alentejo in Portugal and Extremadura in Spain. Excellent rooms, welcoming hospitality and great local dishes.A paradise for bird watches and naturalists. See the vulture colony at the Spanish border and the Roman city of Ammania.

We stayed here on a bike trip and liked the pousada very much. Old world charm rather than old. Restaurant was very good. The goat cheese and walnut in puff pastry was very nice and the lamb stew was succulent and moist. One of the better local type meals we had in the region. Short walk to the castle. Would...

This is a picture perfect Pousada in a picture perfect town. The Pousada blends perfectly with the local archicecture. The views are splendid, breathtaking. The food was delicious and the staff, as always in Pousadas in Portugal, were exceptional: warm, friendly and professional, and always willing to patiently give time to guests. We went to lunch rather late on the...

Spent one night in the hilltop town of Marvao which has a castle with breathtaking vistas. The hotel was very nice with an especially helpful staff. Rooms were spacious and the beds comfortable but the baths were a little dated but charming. The dinner was great and the menu had quite a variety of choices as show in these photos....

The place is very old and needs a lot of renovating, the rooms are poor, and the beds are noisy and old, not very pleasant. The Location is good in the middle of the castle. No appropriate music in the background anywhere in the building.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Pousada de Marvao, framed by a typical layout of the village houses, stands out with its warm and quiet atmosphere. The medieval town of Marvao will leave you surprised by its authenticity, contained within walls that date back to the thirteenth century. Two of the houses in the village of Marvao were easily adapted into the charming Pousadas, giving rise to the cosy Pousada de Santa Maria. The Restaurant and Bar offers an unparalleled scenery, providing unforgettable moments combined with the regional cuisine and hospitality. This beautiful hotel in Marvao has the privilege of being localised in one of the most emblematic Alentejo towns concurring, with its grand landscape, anyone visiting. Besides this, Marvao has also managed to preserve its borough along the years, with its white houses, not allowing modern architecture to disrupt it. ... more   less
