Detailed Reviews
We always feel very welcome here. It is clean, and has lots of
space, outside and inside. The staff is always very polite and concerned about our
wellbeing the manager himself talked to us asking if there was anything, he could do
for us to feel even more comfortable.
The children love the swimming pools as they have the choice of using whichever
suits them, since there is more than one. The breakfast buffet has an immense
variety that we’re sure pleases everybody, but we still have to try one diner as it
looks delicious.
Its location is wonderful for the ones who prefer to visit the city on foot since its close
to the city centre.
We definitely will come back, and we sure highly recommend it.

I only stayed one night with my children for professional reasons. It was a more than pleasant surprise for me. The rooms have a very modern and elegant decor, spacious and very well equipped, and this scenario is repeated throughout the hotel. Cleanliness above average, in a COVID context, a lot of information available, disinfectant available at all circulation points, and a well-designed system of the distance between people. Breakfast is quite good with an acceptable variety and once again the measures regarding COVID are excellent. I felt safe with my children at all times. I have only one comment/recommendation to make regarding table service, although the employees are very attentive and available, there is some lack of coordination in the table service since there is no employee defined for a specific table or table group, which it causes some slowness in the table service, I think it is due to all the adaptation of the new pandemic context and certainly, it will improve with time but for now it is something that needs to be improved.
Very good value for money, definitely a place to repeat whenever I need to stay in this area.
Congratulations to the whole team for the excellent service and ability to adapt in such a difficult context for all of us.

What I liked:
1. When I first walked in … my impression was ‘Wow’. A sleek and modern lobby and a open concept restaurant really made the place look amazing.
2. While I didn’t use the pools. There were a lot of choices. I think there were 4 pools and they all looked nice.
3. The included dinner at the hotel restaurant with my Globus tour was more the same type of meal I could get in North America. I generally want to try the local cuisine. However, there was a lot of choice with the buffet and a very pleasant experience. The breakfast the next morning also had a lot of variety
4. The rooms were clean and modern
What could be improved/didn’t like:
1. The check-in at this hotel needs a lot of work, especially when dealing with bus tours. However, I think a lot of their business are bus tours since I noticed a very large parking lot with several buses next door. We went to our room and discovered it didn’t have two twin beds. This was a communication problem with Globus and spoke to our tour guide after this issue. We phoned reception and told them the situation. We asked for someone to come to the room because it seemed to be a long walk to get back to reception. After about 10 minutes, someone arrived from reception and walked us to the new room. We weren’t too thrilled since it was directly in front of this “wall of heat’ that we passed by when getting off the elevator. The new room also had a lousy view compared to the first one that overlooked the pool. We specifically asked the reception person to make sure that are luggage comes to the new room. She told us not to worry, but sometimes it takes a bit of time. We waited for more than 40 minutes and then thought – maybe they sent our luggage to the old room. I went back and it wasn’t there. We called reception and finally got our luggage more than an hour after checking in. This time there was somewhat of an apology since it was the same reception person who said it would be sent to the new room. She admitted that she forgot, and we respected her honesty. Originally, she seemed annoyed when taking us to the new room and only seemed concerned about whether we used the washroom in the old room. When we met people from the tour and told them about the situation, they said there is a ton of luggage in a small back room that hasn’t been delivered. This lack of organization and efficiency took one hour of out of our vacation time.
2. The front of the hotel is glass and looks very modern. But when you pass by the corridors that are in the front of the hotel facing the street versus the back facing the pool – the temperature is so hot it is noticeable. I think the hotel tried to put some type of additional wall to block the heat. However, it isn’t enough and there needs to be more air conditioning in the corridors to keep the place at a proper temperature.

On a recent trip to Portugal and Spain's Extramadura region, we decided to spend a couple of nights in Evora. So we ended up in Evora (not intentionally) on Friday and Saturday night. I hadn't even considered this property but of my top two hotel choices, one was sold out and the other was outrageously expensive on the weekend.
I don't know if it was an average weekend in April. There was some sort of two week long musical event but the main stage in the main square didn't have very many people even at 10pm on Saturday night.
So I booked the Vila Gale based on it's class (four star), overall rating, and to a lesser extent, location. We've never stayed in a Vila Gale property but they all look pretty nice. It turned out to be an excellent choice that exceeded my expectations. The hotel was sold out on Saturday night so to have an excellent experience during a full hotel was clearly nice.
I always ask for a quiet room (top floor away from elevator) and they met my wishes. This is a large hotel with rooms primarily in two wings on both sides of the lobby area and outdoor pool. (Note: 1 indoor and 2 outdoor pools.)
Our stay was excellent. Large room. Quiet. Comfortable. Good breakfast. The A/C was working in April (which was not the case for some of my other hotels). I could probably find something that wasn't perfect but I just be nit-picking. There were lots of amenities that we didn't use (pools, spa, etc.) but clearly many of the guests were certainly using. This is more of a resort property than just a hotel. Many of the guests looked like they were just couples or families who came for the weekend and probably didn't even spend much time outside the hotel. I've never seen the official criteria for classifying hotels in Portugal but I can't picture why this isn't a five star property.
Probably the only thing I can mention that might be a little less perfect is that it isn't in much of a neighborhood. It's outside the city walls across the street from a gas/petrol station. However, it's only a 10 minute walk to the main plaza on a cute street. It's also across the street from the bus station (which we used when we left town). It's not particularly convenient to the train station, but we used the line 24 bus which runs a couple of blocks from the train station to the other side of the roundabout from the hotel. The hotel doesn't appear to have much parking which seemed quite odd to me though many guests quite obviously drove to the property.
I would definitely stay here again.

This was our first experience of a Vila Gale hotel and we have now realised they style themselves as resort hotels, which is a bit of a double edged sword as it has lovely swimming pools (why we chose it) but Portuguese people go there for a resort holiday so the restaurant is full of people dressed for the pool and there were rather more children than we anticipated considering it was term time. Just seems a bit odd given it’s an urban hotel with a road on two sides.. It’s also large enough to take tour groups, but the restaurant seemed to cope admirably.
Anyway, it is just outside Evora’s walls and it is really easy to walk from there to all Evora’s sights. We had a superior room which included underground car parking – otherwise it’s 7 Euros which is probably why it was nearly empty as there is free parking on the areas around. However in hot weather it’s good to use.
The rooms were large and comfortable with good AC, safe and mini bar. There is a coffee machine but no kettle. The rooms were not very well soundproofed and we had people next door with 2 toddlers who were very noisy and we could hear them crying in the night.
Breakfast was very good, a good selection, and I was brought a fresh decaf coffee as there was none in the machines. The staff were all very friendly but we thought it odd that our room was still being made up when we got back to the hotel at 17.00.
We only used the outdoor pool which is unheated so was a bit bracing but there is an indoor pool too.

The hotel is modern, the rooms are good sized, the beds are firm (too firm for me) the bedding is simple sheets with a blanket that barely fits the bed. Room lighting is good, but the bathroom lighting is dim. Bathroom also doesn’t come with shampoo/conditioner, but rather a combination body wash shampoo that is terrible. Shower is a wall mounter hand shower, that does the job but leaves a lot of room for improvement. Room has lots of outlets, elevators are fast, breakfast is quite good, with a lot of options. Staff was helpful.

Great looking modern hotel with elegant and comfortable rooms. But!!! The sound insulation between rooms and corridor is very poor for a modern hotel. We were in our room for half an hour listening to the room next door moving furniture and hanging up cloths in the wardrobe we assume. It was like they were in the room with us. We asked for a room change which they did straight away. Out next room was no better and we can here the new neighbours move everything. For a modern designed 4 star hotel I expect better. I will not return to this hotel again.

I stayed at this hotel as part of a group tour to Portugal. This hotel is the worst of all the hotels we stayed in during our time in Portugal. If I had a choice it would not have been Vita Gale. Warning bells should have gone off when they gave each couple one key upon check in. The room was small and hot upon arrival. The beds were narrow and uncomfortable. I personally like to iron my clothing when I travel. I always thought it standard that a hotel provide its guests with an iron and iron board. If not already in the room at the least provide access to this travel necessity. At the reception I was told no iron/ironing board for guests - WTH!
This hotel offers its guests the bare minimum. Think corporate greed at the sacrifice of basic hospitality. Save yourself some grief and book a room at a nice hotel. Because this ain’t that!

I have stayed in Vale Gale hotels several times before and to be honest always had a great experience. However at the Evora hotel for the first time I had an awful experience. They’ve put me in a bedroom which the only way to describe it is as an ashtray. They apparently let guests smoke inside their bedrooms and it was unbearable to stay (and I mean you could smell the cigarette from the corridor). Ahh! And I had a 6yo with me… so lovely welcome from them!
As soon as I got there I went down to the reception and they said they had no other bedrooms and the best they could do was to send a cleaning lady with a spray to try to make it smell less bad, and they could only change me to a normal bedroom the next day. Then when I was literally about to take a room at the Ibis next door because the bedroom was really unbearable they called the manager and… wait for it… they had a bedroom available. Only that it was their “superior” bedroom (tbh, same thing as the standard, only with a view to the pool), and apparently they were very happy to let me sleep with a child in a bedroom smelling like an ashtray so they could keep they non-sense “superior bedroom” free that night (I still can’t believe it)….
So, after 1hr of drama, they put me in a normal bedroom not smelling of cigarettes… and, with not even a pause for the ridiculous situation they put me in…. they told me I have to change bedroom the next day… because according to them I had booked a standard bedroom and the bedroom they had to put me in was a “superior bedroom” so I can’t stay in the same bedroom for 2 nights… 😂
These guys are very good at playing pranks here… so my advice is to watch out, specially if you’re traveling with kids! They really have no trouble in putting you and your family in a trouble they created themselves! Thank you Vila Gale management!

Response from Vila Galé Hotéis, Proprietário at Vila Galé Évora
Responded 3 Sept 2023
Esperamos poder voltar a receber no nosso hotel. Com os melhores cumprimentos, Tomás Soares Pires

This was our second time staying at Villa Gale hotel chain in Portugal. Our other location was in the Douro Valley. Our experience in both hotels was similar. Beautiful decor but with service issues. Firstly, at both hotels our rooms were not made up until after 4:00 pm and only after requesting they be made up. The lobby, restaurant and bar areas in both hotels are combined as one large room. This makes them noisy. Coming down for breakfast is similar to entering a high school cafeteria. The food in the restaurants was similar… mediocre and okay with slow service. The room in Évora was tired and the walls need painting. There is no parking out front to unload bags. The parkade which is an additional charge has no elevator which means you need to pull your bags up the stairs to the lower level. The location is very good which warrants 2 stars over 1. Overall a disappointing experience.

On the forecourt there are some spaces free outside the hotel. There is a car park near by as well and a petrol garage opposite where some people parked. It seems a safe area so wouldn't worry about leaving the car away from the hotel.
130km, about an hour and quarter to get there.
easy access by the highway.
Tem estacionamento exterior público gratuito e estacionamento interior privado do hotel com custo.
Muito sinceramente não sei. Às vezes que fiquei hospedada neste hotel. Nunca vi animais. Mas ligue para lá e faça essa pergunta.
"Excellent on-site parking; it is located close to the entrance to the old quarter. They have a beautiful outdoor pool area and spa."Read full review
