Located just inside the main gate of Evora's walled town, this wonderful little hotel is easy to find, easy to drive to, easy to park (onsite underground garage--7.50€/day), and--best of all--a short walk to everything you need to see and experience in this medieval town. Hugo and Ana were wonderful hosts during our two-night stay, steering us to the best sights and restaurants, including our hands-down favorite, Taberna Tipica Quarta Feira. Our prestige (superior) room was on the small side, but nicely furnished, comfortable, and fitted with modern amenities. Downstairs common areas and outside patio provided nice, quiet relaxation and work space. Breakfasts were very good. We'd return to Albergaria Do Calvario in a heartbeat!
Beautiful small hotel with an awesome staff. Jiao was extremely helpful, first with getting us (and our luggage) into our room. We had a spacious suite with a bedroom that was quite large. He then explained the points of interest in Evora as well as provided restaurant ideas. Jiao did book 2 dinners for us and they were fantastic. Each morning they had breakfast waiting. Various cereals, fruit, breads/sweets, eggs, pancakes, and bacon were available. There is an outdoor area as well for warmer weather. The center of Evora is an easy 5-10 minute walk. The major sites are easily walkable, with some hills and steps. Evora is a lovely town, rich with history, and this hotel is perfect to experience it all.
Boutique hotel in Evora, nicely located. Very helpful staff. No major complaints but some irritations; room could be better lit, TV placed on desk rather than mounted to the wall, limited storage space, no spare power receptacle. (To be fair this seems common in Portugal, we ended up buying a power strip in Lisbon). Otherwise very nice bed, bathtub with shower with lots of hot water. Nice breakfast, pleasant lounge area. Overall noisy as the hotel is all tiles and walls with nothing to deaden the sound; I expect that would be a plus in the hotter summer months. Not recommended for light sleepers.
We booked their Charming Room With Terrace, the only room with a terrace. Didn’t use the terrace as the temperature in Evora was 110 degrees. The room had A/C which worked well allowing us to sleep comfortably. Room was clean as was the bathroom. Failed to take a photo of the room, only getting one of the bathroom, breakfast bar (we pointed, they served), the outside courtyard dining area and reception area. Staff cordial and friendly with good recommendation for restaurants and local sights. As others have pointed out, there is underground parking but you’d better have a small car as there’s not much room to maneuver in the garage. Definitely recommend this hotel for a relaxing stay at the end of a day of sightseeing.
I booked quite last minute so I had not researched at all on Trip Advisor but my expectations were quite high. The room rate was relatively expensive (154€) but I didn't mind as the location looked good (it was) and the idea that it was an old mill appealed to me. It also had parking (7€ per day). It was all OK but like the last reviewer, I thought it was slightly disappointing. The room was quiet and clean and the bed comfortable with good quality linen. Our next stop was in Seville where we felt more welcome, with happy staff and complimentary items such as tea/coffee in the room and unlimited free mineral water for 100€ per night. This was in contrast to Albergaria Do Calvario where I had to ask for a bottle of water on the second day and there was no kettle etc in the room. The breakfast was included and eggs and bacon were served quickly, but the coffee was poor and I had to ask each day for cold milk. (In a hotel of this rating I was surprised that cold milk was not available on the buffet.) In conclusion, everything was good enough, but we left feeling a little flat.…
