Detailed Reviews
Booked this hotel for two nights on return journey from the Algarve.Requested non smoking room, there were non. Unusual in this day and age smoking was allowed in all areas including the main restaurant, you could therefore not get away from the smell of cigarette smoke which for non smokers was extremely disappointing.

This hotel was a bit old fashioned but very nicely appointed and beautiful rooms with comfortable beds. If you are a TV addict, then the TVs are a little small, so be warned. The free breakfast was nothing fancy, but plenty of options and as much as you could eat, so no problems there.
The only disappointment (and it was an ongoing, stressful one), was the check.in process. We made a special request when booking and we got a response from the hotel to agree to the request, but when we arrived after 6 hours on the road, we were told it was not possible. We needed to argue the case and show the response email from the hotel to get them to agree. The subject was revisited when we returned from sight-seeing at 8pm. Was really unpleasant and we felt hounded, guilty and unwelcome.

bit of a problem checking in as they had no record of my booking through booking.com but they did have others. Receptionist just kept looking at my letter and didn't speak english. Eventually the oqwner boooked us into a family room. Not the balcony room we had booked but it was a room. Large, spacious, lots of storage. Heating/air conditioning and a good bathroom with a large shower. All the rooms, and restaurant, are smoking rooms, but didn't smell of it.
As with most places this side of Portugal, all prices in bar and restaurant were very reasonable. Had a meal with friends in the large restaurant. Again, like most places, eating is a dran out relaxed affair and sometimes a little too much so. So you need to just relax and enjoy it. Food was very good, though not always exactly as described on the menu.
Good disabled access from what I could see. Car park has covered spaces to help the heat of the sun. Hotel is just outside town and a goodwalk up a steep hill to town. Not for everybody. Only a couple of minutes drive from the historic centre though.
Would definitely stay again.

I call to reserve, they confirm that there are free rooms, and the next day, once I have the trip planned, with the purchase of bus and train tickets, they tell me that there are none. UNPRESENTABLE. It cannot be that one day there is space and the next day, once the reservation is confirmed, I have to find my life.

We stayed at Hotel Jardim as part of a large group visiting friends in Elvas, the hotel is comfortable & clean with friendly staff, Booked a family suite for 4 people with separate rooms with twin & double beds, shared bathroom & balcony breakfast included all for 85 Euro a night. The continental breakfast is good & restaurant food was also good quality & value. The staff opened early for breakfast (5 a.m.) so we could eat before driving back to Lisbon for an early flight. I have stayed here several times before & would again. Regarding other travellers comments about smoking, whilst there were people smoking in the bar (different regulations apply in Portugal) extraction works efficiently I did not notice a strong smell of tobacco anywhere. The rooms we booked were fresh & clean.
