Well, I knew Elvas was recently made a Uneaco site. The place is stunning. Visually one of the best town I have ever seen. It was also Christmas time so it was twice as charming. We stayed at Hotel Sao Joao de Deus, wish is fabulous. Rooms are so well kept and the decoration. But the real beauty are the...

Staying in this hotel will take you back in the past! Built into part of the wall of the city, this is a charming, beautiful hotel, with free breakfast, good beds, large rooms and huge bathrooms. Parking is behind the hotel. The staff were helpful, spoke English, and the free breakfast was very adequate and the coffee as most places...

This hotel has bags of charm. 16th century, converted convent and war hospital, with dark, cool corridors, and bedrooms with heavy, wooden shutters where the sunbeams come in. We stayed here for one night and loved it. What it lacks in corporate amenities (no mini bar, average breakfast), it more than makes up for with an amazing courtyard full of...

This is a relatively large hotel with all different kind/styles of rooms it seems. Our rooms faced out onto an outer road, which wasn't too traveled so it was OK. Each room was in the form of a suite. The bedroom part had no windows, but there was a small room with a table that had a window. It seemed...

Hotel Sao Joao de Deus is a gem. It's tough to find on a map because its just inside the city walls - when you drive inside the walls, turn right and the hotel is immediately on your right. Drive past the entrance through the tunnel and the parking lot is a sharp right turn just after the tunnel. Now...

This hotel is outstanding value. Nestling just inside the main gate of Elvas and set on the fortified walls, the views from the upper rooms are stunning. The couryard with the orange trees is peaceful, beautiful and inviting. Corridors and rooms are intriguing with an air of old world charm and elegance. Breakfast is excellent and this hotel is well...

Stayed here only one night before we crossed over into Spain. Elvas is a NEAT little walled city which we didn't expect. The hotel is inside the wall. Rooms are updated and beautiful. We had rooms facing the courtyard which has orange trees. Very nice breakfast included. Spent the day roaming thru the town looking at things. The price CANNOT...

We stayed here one winter when driving through Portugal. Managed to get a room for less than half rack price. The tourst information office has a list of accomodation and their offers. Lovely huge room, very well decorated and friendly staff. Well stocked bar also. Breakfast was a good start to the day. Well worth a visit.
