The SL Hotel Santa Luzia was opened this year, and is situated in the building of the former Pousada de Elvas, which dates back to 1942." After some redecoration and restoration work, it is now a charming hotel aiming to combine the typical Alentejo architecture and the traditional Portuguese spirit of hospitality and it's ready to face the challenges that come with being located in Elvas, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2012. Featuring an elegant, yet typical, decor, the 25 hotel rooms have cable TV, minibar, telephone with exterior access, en suite bathroom and free Wi-Fi access, offering pool, garden and city views. Guests can enjoy the best of Alentejo cuisine in the restaurant where contemporary versions of classic dishes such as Bacalhau Dourado (Gold Codfish) or Borrego Assado no Forno (Roast Lamb) are served. The Bar serves cocktails and appetizers, and like the restaurant, have terraces with relaxing views to the swimming pool. The Hotel has two game rooms, tennis court and free parking (without surveillance). The Spanish city of Badajoz is 12 km far and the bus station is only 7 minutes walking distance from the Hotel.

This hotel was in the past a pusada and they have renovated it but they kept the authentic style. The hotel is near by the historic center and has a parking space in front of it. The hotel is really suitable for people who cannot walk stairs easily. All rooms are on the first floor and there is no elevator. Also you need to carry your own luggage to the first floor. Rooms are nice, but when it is hot outside (specially during the summer), the AC is not able to cool the room to a comfortable level. The swimming pool is big enough and nice to rest after a long walk in the city. The breakfast is enough to get started but not really special. Staff is very friendly and provide good instruction related to the covid rules.

Response from João Simões, Diretor-Geral at SL Hotel Santa Luzia, Elvas
Responded 13 Aug 2020
Dear Mr Frank, First of all, we would like to thank you for choosing the SL Hotel Santa Luzia for your stay in Elvas and for spending some time to review your experience with us. We are very pleased to hear that overall you appreciated the hotel and your time with us. Regarding the staircase, we would like to clarify that being a historical-listed building regrettably we are not able to alter the original structure and therefore to install a lift to access the first floor. Nevertheless, we always offer to carry your luggage to your room. We have checked directly with our reception team and it has been confirmed that such help was indeed offered to you but declined. The same offer remains valid at check-out time, when we encourage our guests to contact our reception team to collect the luggage from their rooms. We are very much looking forward to welcoming you back in the near future. Kind Regards,

Simply amazing. A lovely restauration of an old building that came out to be a beautiful hotel. The only problem that they were not allowed to add an elevator - but the staff is helping and bringing the luggage up and down.
We had a gourmet dinner there and a lovely and informative service from Joao the owner and the rest of the staff.

Highly recommended.

We decided to go out for the weekend 3-4 days before so, being August in Portugal, everything that had a decent price was already booked. We managed to find this place and it charmed us with its 40's-50's feel. It was the first Pousada or Inn in Portugal and because it is considered an historical building they have kept it much like it used to be. The rooms are spacious, with big beds (2x2m) and wood furniture that almost looks like you stepped in another era. It is confortable, cosy and with all the modern amenities we grown accustomed to, including free wifi throughout the hotel (including the pool).
The staff is friendly and the reception works 24/7.
The breakfast is included in the rate and has a good variety of freshly baked bread and cake and fresh fruits.
They have a big pool, with arm chairs and big hats to keep you cool in those hot summer days in Alentejo.
This is a charm hotel, with nice staff that makes you feel relaxed and in a good mood.

Older style hotel, nicely located within walking distance to the historic town center. Easy parking.
Nice rooms with charming decoration. Clean and tidy.
The restaurant is very good. Attentive service and excellent local dishes.
Good breakfast
I will return if in the area again.
Only negative comment is that they really need to get rid of the old tv and replace it with a new one

We stayed here for one night while visiting Elvas. The hotel is very convenient for both the bus station (5 mins walk) and the old town (about 10 mins walk). Although it's not within the walls, it has a nice setting. The staff were very friendly and our room was lovely, with a huge bed, a view of the acqueduct and good bathroom. Breakfast was very good with a range of cereals, bread, ham, cheese, fruit, yogurt, cake etc. We also ate dinner in the hotel restaurant and it was excellent. Would definitely recommend.

Charming hotel located outside of the walled old city.
Rooms are of average size, but are very comfortable. Some furniture pieces are hand painted and the bathrooms have beautiful painted tiles.
Friendly staff and a very good breakfast.

The building is old, but in very good condition; both rooms I rented were spacious and the double bed huge.

The restaurant, although slightly exensive, is worthwhile if you want to avoid walking or driving - the wine selection is splendid and the food par with what you get in top-rates Elvas restaurants.

A very good swimming pool, with ample space and an área for children

However, staying there in August can be challenging: the A/C units are very loud and ineffective. Despite the staff's goodwill, nothing could be done about it and the nights were terribly hot.

Stayed here just 1 night for our wedding anniversary in a superior double. Room very comfy. Complimentary coffee and mineral water plus payable mini bar. Nice range of toiletries. Lovely comfy bed. Had dinner in restaurant. Great tasting menu for €26 per head plus drinks. With a couple of half bottles of wine, water, and some celebratory local fizz the bill came to €90, which we thought was excellent value. We particularly liked the salt cod and pigs cheeks, which absolutely melted in the mouth. Additionally, in a lovely gesture the hotel brought chocolate cake and a couple of glasses of fizz to our room to mark our anniversary! We would definitely recommend. It's also just 5 minutes' walk from Elvas city walls and around 15 from the centre of town. There's plenty of parking and our room was very quiet despite overlooking the road at the front. Pool was good too and we found the staff very friendly. Our room cost just over €110 for the night, which we thought reasonable for the quality. Breakfast great. Lovely range of fresh fruit, cooked meats, cheese, pastries, homemade jams, cereals, fresh juice, sparkling wine in nice airy restaurant.
