Where to start? The location is very quiet, a little out of Watervale. The resort has NO caravan or camp sites, only 4 cabins all nicely spaced so that noise from others is not a problem. The cabins are spotless and the linen and bedding of good quality. Your accommodation comes with continental breakfast which includes cereal, juice, fruit, milk, ample choice of teas and both instant and pod coffee. A pleasant treat is the fresh baked, hot loaf of bread delivered to your cabin around 8:00 am each morning. If the continental breakfast is not enough for you, you may upgrade to bacon and eggs supplied in good quantities and at a more than fair price for you to cook. Just to prove that pretty much everything has been thought of, we found the bedside clock not only worked but showed the right time, as did the clock in the wall clock in the kitchen/sitting area. What;s more there was a night light in the bathroom and a small, working torch hanging near the door. I almost forgot to mention that the owner/operators are lovely people and quite happy to have a chat plus guests are welcome to help feed the small menagerie on the property. If you happen to get tired of sitting around admiring the bush setting, take a trip around the Clare Valley and visit some wineries or simply admire the countryside.

A 1.5 hour drive from Adelaide airport, Watervale Retreat was comfortable and quiet but just a short drive to wineries, bike trails, bush walks and great places to eat. We enjoyed the bush setting and meeting the resident alpacas and emus. The cabin was generously provisioned with breakfast supplies, kitchen equipment, and good quality beds and linen. Tracey and David were welcoming and genuine hosts.

Watervale Retreat is a wonderful location to access all that is on offer in the Clare Valley. Tracey & David provided some great recommendations based on our interests.

The delivery of freshly baked bread early in the morning was delicious and delightful! The cabin was clean and comfortable. The electric blanket, bathroom heat lights and the heater in the living space were very comforting for a cold spring for us visiting from northern Australia.

It was wonderful having a host that can communicate in Auslan!

Although we didn’t use them, it was great to see grab rails installed to provide physical access for those that would benefit from them.

Some of the recommendations Tracey and David suggested that we really enjoyed was having lunch at the Magpie & Stump (pub) and a tasting at Reilly’s Cellar Door which are both in Mintaro; visiting Sevenhills Cellars (for a self guided tour of the property) and dining at Indii of Clare, which was so delicious!!

I would recommend Watervale Retreat as great place to access the Clare Valley and the Resiling Trail.

Beautiful little cabin, with everything you could hope for supplied. Sparkling clean, located in the centre of the Clare Valley, good access to the Riesling trail, great coffee at the nearby Watervale General Store.
Waking up to fresh bread on your porch every morning was a real treat.
Wonderful friendly hosts, if you have kids a little hobby farm on site.

We stayed here for 5 nights while we explored the Clare Valley and surroundings areas. We couldn’t have wished for better accommodation. Our cabin was spotless and had more than enough towels, blankets, heating and kitchen equipment. Continental breakfast is provided including a fresh loaf of bread delivered each morning. Highly recommend this venue.

A very quiet and secluded location. Cabin was well presented, exceptionally clean and well equipped. Booking experience was easy and the hosts were very welcoming. Little touches like the hot bread in the morning, fresh milk and supplies for the continental breakfast was ample. Lovely setting and in a great location close to many wineries.

Road trip from Victoria found us stopping at the Watervale Retreat cabins. Hosts David and Tracey welcomed us into their demain. The cabin stay was brilliant everything nice and clean with all the comforts of home and more. After a long drive we relaxed and at 6pm fed some of the lovely animals on the property. We spent a comfortable night in a peaceful little cabin and in the morning the couple arrived with fresh baked bread they had made. Such a wonderful stay we would recommend it to everybody. Thanks David & Tracey for a memorable time.

Once again this retreat excelled and exceeded my expectations! I retuned here without hesitation when I came to Clare. The friendliness, willing to assist and the beautiful animals make it our ‘go to destination’. The hot freshly baked damper delivered to your cabin in the mornings is ‘out of this world’.... so much so my wife ( who could not make it on this occasion) asked me to bring some home!!! Highly recommend this as a place to stay, nestled in nature!!!

The Watervale Retreat is an excellent base for a trip to the Clare Valley, being situated 800 m from Watervale and just off the Reisling Trail.

The Cabins are comfortable and exceptionally clean. A generous-sized verandah provides plenty of options on warmer days, and a shared (spotless) barbecue is a short walk from each of the four cabins.

The kitchenette has all that is needed for short stays and the bathroom is complimented by a heating lamp for chilly weather.

There are basic breakfast provisions highlighted by a loaf of freshly baked bread delivered to each cabin daily.

The cabins are well located so there is a sense of privacy in your cabin.

The owners are very accommodating for any small requests (i.e. they will deliver the bread the evening before for early departures).

There really is nothing not to like about Watervale Retreat.

We have just enjoyed two delightful days and nights at Watervale Retreat. Surrounded by bush land with resident emus and alpacas, the setting is delightful. The cabin was meticulously clean and very well appointed. Tracey and David were friendly and accommodating hosts. Over and above all this, however, the joy of daily, freshly baked bread delivered at 8 am was pure joy!
