We had the pleasure to stay with Denise and Frank over a weekend at their lovely bed and breakfast. It’s set in a former school and it oozes history. The rooms are very large with every need taken care of. Very comfy beds and heaters available in each room. Denise was able to arrange a driver for our group, Aldo, who was very friendly and accommodating to what wineries we wanted to visit and he was very well priced. The hosts are very welcoming and love a chat. They even joined us for dinner and had lots of stories to share. A stunning property and one I’d love to come back and visit.

This is a very special accommodation house. We had a suite which was furnished beautifully. Unfortunately, during our three night stay we didn't fully appreciate some of the rooms.

Everything was done perfectly - the decorations, comfortable bed, breakfast basket, bathroom facilities.

The proprietors live nearby and are very chatty and helpful.

The accommodation is situated ideally to wander around the wineries of the Clare Valley.

The old grammar has just so much space and charm. The Snooker room and lounge with the fire were great. I had the upstairs suite that was as large as my house with own kitchen and second bedroom. Owners love a chat and had a great breakfast basket with more than enough food for the 2 days. I wish I had stayed a third night, I felt like a king in this place and look forward to returning to the Clare and would not stay anywhere else.

We stumbled upon the Stanley Grammar purely by accident but Denise and Frank quickly made us welcome and made sure we were completely comfortable. They couldn't do enough for us. It was midweek and we were the only guests staying as a large group had just left, but the fire was quickly lit for us in the expansive and comfortable living room (parlour?), and drinks and nibbles offered. This place oozes with charm and our room and bathroom were gorgeous, as is the rest of this atmospheric and historic stone building. A cup of tea on the sunlit, wide verandah before we hit the road was the perfect end to a wonderful stay. The Stanley Grammar used to be a school, and being situated alongside a modern day small primary school, hearing the kids playing evokes the atmosphere of what it was once like. Fantastic place.

We stayed 2 nights and had a great time. The old stanley grammar school is really a special place and has a great history. We had a very spacious and beautiful room. The garden is lovely as well, and the same applies for the surroundings in general. But the best of it all are the hosts: Denise and Frank. They are a lovely couple who make it their mission to give you a good time. Frank is a great character and Denise is the sweetest. Definitely rcommended, even more since they have great plans for redecorating this lovely place in the future.

Staying at Stanly Grammar for 3 nights was a wonderful experience. We had the French Suite which was very attractive and overlooked the garden through the French Doors. It is a magnificent old building and Denise made us extremely welcome. There were so many provisions that we really did not need to eat out at all. The open fire in the lounge room with all the antique furniture was great to sit and have a drink with a cheese platter or just to read a book. There were so many things to see and do in Watervale. I love pies and there is a small town called Stonehut and the only building is a pie shop. Unbelievable. The atmosphere in the restaurant made me want to stay and have lunch which we could not do. But we did buy some pies to take back to Stanley Grammar. We went up to Port Germain (22 deg in July) which has the longest jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. It goes on endlessly. I have to go back there again. It is a sleepy little town which retains alot of the Australian character. I believe a TV series or a movie was filmed there. I just want to walk to the end of the jetty. Clare is a lovely town for a cake and coffee from a bakery. Also at Watervale is Martindale Hall which is a manor house and featured in the movie "Picnic at Hanging Rock".

Only arrived back home today from a super stay, I am still thinking about a place I grew fond of in a very short time. There is so much history and grandeur which is hard to absorb all at once. We enjoyed every minute and made use of the facilities, including tense games of eight ball. The inclusions in the tariff were very generous. Do not take any food or nibbles as everything is provided. Denise is a wonderful host who has a very charming and endearing personality.
Thank you very much Denise and Frank for having us stay at your beautiful house.
Petra and Peter, Hope to be back!

A wonderful stay here, we had the house to ourselves ( lucky us) and used it to our advantage. Cooked in the kitchen ( thanks Denise for leaving us easy stuff to make an easy dinner after travelling, that was unexpected) and had a few games of pool while listening to music and sipping our wine. Loved the ambience and classiness of this beautifully restored place. Loved feeling so privileged perusing the library, or sitting at the 20- odd seated dining table! Loved sitting on the verandah sipping a wine and enjoying the fountain and the garden. Centrally located to all the good vineyards - all only a few km away, so very easy. Lovely hosts, thanks so much.

While we were driving from Barossa to Clare we became lost while following the GPS instructions. We came to a small creek on dirt road and I decided to cross it in the hire car.It was a poor decision and we became bogged.
It was a remote isolated location so I called the owners of Stanley Grammar House for advice on who to call.
Without hesitation Denise said she and her husband would locate us in their four wheel drive vehicle and rescue us..
They turned up not long after and with great expertise they towed us out.
They recognised that we were very stressed and once safely back "home" at Stanley Grammar Country House they opened a beautiful bottle of wine and provided us with a nice lunch. We spent three wonderful days there and had some great fun with them both.
They exceeded our expectations by " a country mile "
