Property's Favourite Review
We have stayed at quite a few cottages in the Clare Valley area, but our most recent stay at Battunga Cottages has been the stand-out.
The location is perfect - a short walk to the ridge above the cottage and you are right on the Clare Valley Wine & Wilderness Trail. The award-winning Watervale Hotel is 5 minutes away by car. In the other direction is the picturesque road to the Blue Gum Lookout and the walking trails of the Spring Gully Conservation Park, one leading to the Cascades waterfall and panoramic views to the west.
We stayed for two nights in the one-bedroom Kookaburra Cottage (a kookaburra visited us on our last morning), which was very generously supplied with a fruit basket, grazing basket, with dip, olives, cheese etc, and bottle of local wine, as well as WARM homemade bread and all one needs for two hearty breakfasts - fresh eggs, bacon, tomatoes etc.
The wood fire was all ready for us to to light, with plenty of spare logs and was very effective which made our stay even cosier, keeping the cottage warm all night.
Thanks to owners, Kerry & Mark for their kind and generous hospitality.

Thank you for you lovely detailed review of your recent stay with us. We think it's the perfect location too, such beautiful nature bush around us, as well as the picturesque vineyards of Watervale and Leasingham. And very pleased we were able to ensure a visit from a local Kookaburra (we aim to please)! We do hope to see you again. Warmest Regards. Kerry and Mark

We were booked in for 3 nights at Kerry’s place. Tasteful furnishing, very clean, homely and humble. Veranda is looking at loved the garden, with bridge, sometimes visited by a cute kangaroo family. Lovely to be up in the hills and hear the wildlife, enjoy the starry sky and breathe the crystal clean air. The host is very responsive and thoughtful. We were welcomed by fresh loaf of bread, complementary bottle of delicious rose and dark chocolate by our bedside. Kitchen/living room as well as refrigerator was packed with goodies like fresh fruit, nibbles, fresh eggs and other yummy food for breakfast.
Kerry is blessed with the love and enthusiasm for this kind of the business.

This is a delightful place. We stayed in Galah, a roomy two-bedroom cottage equipped with everything you could want, including a fridge packed with ample provisions for breakfast, not to mention a bottle of wine. cheese board and fruit platter. Wow! It's in a great location, with easy access to the Riesling Trail and the impressive Watervale Hotel and General Store (go for coffee, stay for lunch) and close to many wineries. The setting at Battunga is so relaxing, with bird noise and kangaroos and a view from every angle. The hosts were second-to-none; friendly, interesting and lots of local knowledge. We will definitely be back :)

Stayed 2 nights in the 2 bedroom Parrot Cottage. The cottage was as I hoped, full of old world charm. It was quiet and we saw many lovely stars at night than at home in the city.
Our host Kerrie gave us a loaf of bread she'd freshly baked and a warm greeting. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, microwave toaster etc to cook our breakfast. Breakfast supplies were plentiful, cereal, yoghurt, beautiful oranges, free range eggs courtesy of Kerrie and Mark's hens, bacon, mushrooms, olives and tomatoes. There was tea, coffee pods, cheese and fig paste, a bottle of wine and some chocolate.
Kerrie and Mark had set the fireplace ready to use with comprehensive instructions and plenty of wood. It worked well and kept the cottage cosy as despite it being September the nights were chilly. The bed was very comfortable and the shower excellent.
Kerrie recommended excellent places to eat during our stay which we ate at. Had a walk up the hill to look at the beautiful view and see the local sheep.
It was an easy drive to the various wineries in the Clare Valley.
Couldn't fault our stay and would chose here if we ever come this way again.

We had 3 nights in the Rosella Cottage - just gorgeous, and we were made to feel very welcome by the hosts Kerry and Mark. It seemed like a week's worth of relaxation. The cottage was a treat, great attention given to the authentic style, made cosy with the wood fire (or could opt for controlled warm air-conditioning if desired). Abundant farm produce for a hearty breakfast (or organic mueseli and yoghurt if preferred), coffee machine, or a variety of teas, home baked bread, welcome wine, cheese and chocolate was superb. Woke to the sounds of birds, encountered kangaroos on the walking trail and it is just a 10 minute drive to Watervale. It is a perfect location for exploring the Clare Valley - right in the middle of a range of wineries, restaurants and quirky antique shops. It was so relaxing we opted to 'stay in' one day just curl up on the couch and read. We will be back!

We could not have asked for a better country escape! The cottage was immaculate and Kerry's incredibly thoughtful bounty of local goodies meant we wanted for nothing the entire long weekend. Clean, peaceful and relaxing, we met kangaroos on the short sunset walk above the cottage and loved visiting the local wineries and restaurants. We can't wait to go back!

Quality throughout- fixtures, fittings, furniture, bed linen, towels etc. Very generous breakfast provisions. Warm, cosy, comfortable cottage with reverse cycle air-conditioning and slow burning wood fire.
Two major aspects make Battunga Cottages a most memorable retreat - the quality of the cottage and the quality of Kerry and Mark's hospitality. Both outstanding.
The cottages are within easy proximity to wineries, breweries, restaurants, shops, and attractions with endless bushwalking opportunities. The Riesling Trail is a must.
We booked for three nights and stayed for fourteen.
Thoroughly recommended. Thank you so much Kerry and Mark.
Tess and Ian.

We stayed here for 3 nights earlier this month and had Kookaburra cottage - plenty big enough for the 2 of us. Kerry met us on arrival and gave us a loaf of freshly baked bread - a nice touch. Breakfast provisions were left in the cottage and they were very generous and of high quality. We were pleased to find that everything was local SA produce. There are 4 cottages but we did not hear other guests. The cottages are about a 5 minute drive from the main road in Watervale and have a lovely rural setting. We walked up to the ridge on the property twice and saw a total of 10 kangaroos bounding across the ridge or in the vineyard. The Clare Valley can get cold but with r/c airconditioner and a pot bellied stove all was well.

Battunga Cottages are located on a picturesque, peaceful, rural property. Our cottage was extremely comfortable, well appointed and well stocked with quality products and produce. Kerry our host made us most welcome, and touches such as home made bread (still warm), a bottle of local wine in the fridge, a selection of snacks and fresh flowers in the cottage made for a great start to our visit to the Clare Valley.

Amazingly generous host providing an abundance of food for breakfast plus a delightful offering of local cheeses, olives, dip, crackers and wine to enjoy by the fire in our cottage on arrival. I have never come across such generosity in a B&B! The cottage itself was spotless and tastefully decorated with a comfortable bed amidst interesting antiques and artworks. All this in a peaceful location where nature could be appreciated. The sunrise view over the valley from the ridge at the back is Devine.
