This small designer hotel opened in 2017 in the upper floors of Ghent’s old post office building. Located in the very heart of Ghent, the hotel offers its guests some of the best views in the city. The 38 guest’s rooms are decorated in a warm style- with high ceilings, dark green walls and antique furniture – complementing the building’s late 19th century architecture. With great views through the grand window, the restored wood and indirect lighting create a cozy atmosphere accented with a contemporary touch of freshness. The natural earth colours of the interior design combine a local sense of place with a relaxed feeling of being at home. The hotel’s crowning touch is the cocktail bar – called The Cobbler, after the special type of cocktail shaker. The bar’s ambiance reflects an old-time atmosphere- with a stunning view of the spires of historic Ghent.

We stayed for 4 nights in this luxury vintage hotel. It is centrally located in Ghent in the top floors of a hundred year old post office building. The main entrance is a bit hard to find and located on the side of the river, while the secondary keycard required entrance faces

Aesthetically alone, definitely the one of the best hotels in which I’ve stayed. For heritage reasons apparently, the loft configuration requires running up the stairs every time you want to wash your hands, but this was a minor inconvenience (for me). The Le Labo toiletries are

Dear lord_spat, Thank you for your lovely feedback following your recent stay with us - it certainly looks like you had a great time in our hotel! The Cobbler, our award winning cocktail bar, is indeed a very popular place with both hotel guests as well as the local community. The team work pretty fast and will do their upmost to find a place for everyone - either a comfortable table or right at the bar counter to see all the action close up! I certainly appreciate your suggestions following your observations and I hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back on a future occasion. Kind regards, Sven Steijvers General Manager

Gorgeous historical building of the former post and telegraph situated in the very heart of Gent. It is close to all places of interest, shopping streets and good restaurants. We had a room “the letter” duplex which is absolutely gorgeous. Cozy, old styled, with curious

We stayed here for four days. Gent serves as a terrific base to visit Brugge and Antwerp. The hotel itself is in a beautiful old building in the heart of the oldest part of the city and within walking distance to tons of attractions, bars and restaurants. Breakfast wasn’t

Dear Peyton L, Thank you for your kind comments and I am delighted that you enjoyed your visit to our hotel & our beautiful, historic city Ghent! The Cobbler, our award winning cocktail bar, is indeed very popular with both our hotel guests as well as our local community. How wonderful to hear that you were able to find a place in this busy bar - I hope you enjoyed the atmosphere! Our various room types are classified according to seize, starting with the smallest - a Stamp - all the way to our largest Suite - the Loft. Room 30 is a "Postcard" category, which is indeed a smaller room. Your friends stayed in a "Letter" category and is of larger proportions. You can choose from all these different room types (we have 12 in total) on our website. This will certainly assist in chosing a room which fits your travel needs and budget best for any given occasion. Thank you again for your lovely remarks and I look forward welcoming you back on a future occasion! Warm regards, Sven Steijvers General Manager

Beautifully renovated building in the heart of medieval Ghent and in walking distance of pretty much anywhere you want to visit - or easy access to teams/buses if you want to explore further afield. We booked a deluxe duplex room. Very comfortable and thoughtfully decorated and

Dear par64London, Thank you for your detailed comments following your recent stay with us - I certainly appreciate your lovely comments about the wonderful room you stayed in, our amazing building & our historic city of Ghent. It certainly looks like you enjoyed yourself! The Cobbler, our award winning cocktail bar, is indeed very popular with both hotel guests as well as our local community. Where possible, we try to reserve a table for our hotel guests, however, depending on timings, this is not always possible on these busy evenings. We operate no reservations policy for our 24 seats & 6 bar stools with usually a table or place at the bar available within 10 -15 minutes. David & the team work pretty fast and they appreciate your patience when waiting for a space to become available. For breakfast, you walk into our Kitchen and help yourself to a Continental buffet arrangement, displayed on a lovely, large, antique farmhouse table - over 10 kinds of cold meats & cheeses, 8 different breads, yoghurts & fruits, smoked salmon & haddock as well as cereals and a variety of condiments. Our chefs make each egg preparation to order, rather the cooking these in advance, and I regret you did not rate their efforts. I do appreciate your feedback though and do come and visit us & Ghent again over the summer - we would love to host you again in the near future. Best regards, Sven Steijvers General Manager

Dear guest - there is indeed a lift from the reception floor to Suite 23's floor (2nd floor). It's view is partly over St. Michiels bridge and the Leie river. Kind regards, 1898 the Post

Dear guest, We have 6 suites in our hotel - Suite 2, Suite 18, Suite 23, the Loft, the Tower Suite & Suite 39 (junior suite) - each room is described in detail on our website, with a great number of pictures to give a good view of each individual suite. Suite 23 is a single floor suite, with no steps. From the train station, tram 1 brings you to Korenmarkt Square (opposite of the hotel) in 10 minutes. Single trip is EUR 3. A taxi is to the hotel is around EUR 10 for a single trip. I trust this helps - thank you to 294DavidT for the detailed answer as well - and we look forward welcoming you to the hotel. 1898 The Post
