Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The hotel was fine and comfortable but I was so annoyed by the internet connection! You had to either make an account, or sign in with google or facebook to use the wifi and I got multiple alerts from google when I tried using that account and then had to change my password. I then made an account but had to use multiple devices to confirm my address on Youtube?!? It felt quite invasive and then I also had to re-sign in every time I closed the browser. It was quite annoying and I think the hotel really needs a new system.

They gave us a no smoking room that reeked of cigarettes. They are very stingy with toilet paper, which was a real problem at one point. The loo is this tiny closet far from the sink where where you wash your hands. The bathtub is slick and hard to get in and out of.

The property itself isn't bad. The rooms are clean. The staff is friendly. The location is good - almost great! That is where the good news ends. Spotty service is to be expected due to COVID staffing shortages. It was clear that the staff were doing all they could. This is why it gets 3 stars rather than 2. First off we had serious problems with the door. They knew of the technical problem and put us in the room anyway. To some extent we - as three year expats - thought that it may have been our lack of understanding of European hotel conventions. But on the last morning we were interrupted by a repair man to fix it. The manager did come up and show us how to jimmy the door open. Sometimes. Next was the bathtub. It was clean, deep, and worked just fine. But I have to assume it was meant for children as in order to sit in it I had to have one butt cheek slightly elevated and sit on an angle. I'm a big guy (190 cm 100 kilo) but not obese. This is not normal. I bathed in about 2 liters of water as my body displaced the rest. Now this is a note for Americans only. Europeans are pretty used to this even if it isn't universal - but the elevator was comically small. It worked fine, and allegedly held 4 people, but in reality my partner and I barely fit. There was precisely one (double) electrical socket in the whole room. It was next to the TV. So anything we cared to charge had to piled away from the bed, and heating pads simply were not going to get the juice they needed. Finally - and this is a service issue likely related to COVID and our own ignorance of how Belgian room furnishings work - the heater was set to 25 C. Ugh. We could not figure out how to reset it until the last day, and the front desk declined to show us. So we sweltered in the heat for the first day, then manually shut off the heater when we went out for the second. The cleaning staff turned it back on so we had another sweaty night for reasons other than passion. On the third night I got inspiration and figured it out... but it really would have been nice for someone to help us. Or for it to not be an electronic Rubic's Cube that had to be solved if we didn't want to bake. Other than those issues it was good. There is a whole restaurant next door, nicely appointed and decorated, that is only for hotel guests' breakfast. We wished we had paid for it when we booked! We won't be staying there again, if only because of trivial things like the bathtub and the chargers. But between wonky amenities and COVID depleted staff (again, we don't hold this against the friendly staff themselves) we simply did not have a good stay. ---- Addendum: I am being asked about shoeshine services below. I'm not sure how to answer. There was no shoeshine person. Nor was this amenity pointed out to us at any time. But in the hallway there was an old but well maintained shoeshine machine. I don't know if that counts... but I will say "yes". I guess. It really wasn't something we wanted or needed, but I thought it was kinda neat.

The reception team was very helpful throughout our stay. All members of staff spoke English and it was easy to communicate. Our room was of a good size, had small TV with channels in English, French, Dutch and other languages, Ironing system, mini bar which was reasonably priced and heating/cooling system. The bathroom had all basic supplies to get you through your stay e.g. shampoo, shower gel, lotion, hair dryer. Water pressure was strong and made showering an easy process. Our room was cleaned daily, which was very nice. Breakfast was ok. Hot food which was meant to be English breakfast was of poor quality. I can only recommend continental food and the selection was pretty good. Parking access was very easy and you can get a discounted rate through hotel reception. We paid around £17/18 for 24hrs stay.

Not sure how they rate the hotels in Belgium, but this is not a 4 star hotel. Rooms are mediocre, clean and functional, beds feel like hospital beds (wrapped in plastic) and are not very comfortable. Shower took 5 minutes to warm up. Breakfast was available, but the eggs and bacon were cold and the offer is as much as needed, as less as possible. Oh yeah, if you want a Latte you pay extra .. I question that behaviour as such but in a 4 star hotel for sure. In total this hotel feels run down and ready for an overhaul, and I'm sure Antwerpen has better opportunities for a sleep over. Can not recommend, will not come back

We stayed at the Theater Hotel for its location, on-site parking and price. Very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was excellent and the room was clean and of a good size. The front desk was very helpful in finding a restaurant for us and on the day of travel with instructions of how to get out of Antwerp quicky by car.

We stayed at Theater Hotel so many times, but never did we have to queue and wait 15 minutes for breakfast on Sunday morning. I have traveled for 30 years around the world, but this ... I had never experienced. The hotel needs to find a solution here ... very soon, otherwise customers will look for alternatives.

I recently had a trip to Antwerp and booked a stay at the theater hotel and I couldnt have been happier. Reminded me of home honestly, very nice entrance to the very nice front desk attendant. Room was ready when we arrived and the room was very spacious and clean. Hotel bar downstairs only open a few hours throughout the day which may throw some people off but they have breakfast in the morning. No gym but i was told they may have pool or sauna but neither was confirmed. The hotel was very close to a lot of eating around the corners and i recommend the Le Pain Quitoden for breakfast. There was a lot of shopping options within walking distance. I loved the stay and would book another stay here when i go back to antwerp.

We stayed here while visiting Antwerp for the weekend. The hotel is centrally located, within walking distance of all the main sights. On the upside, the rooms were large, with separate toilet and bathroom, and clean, and staff was very friendly. Moreover, the hotel features a bar that can get quite crowded during weekends. On the downside, the apparently renovated rooms feel a bit too much "no frills" for a supposedly 4-star hotel.

Central located good hotel. The rooms are bigger then i used to and they are clean. Beds are okay and can be to easily separated. Parking is nearby, breakfast was good. If you want a nice priced hotel and start your time in Antwerp this is a great hotel. Nice detail in weekend is a market just outside where you cab eat, sit and relax.
