We stayed 3 nights in this particular and modern but decidedly original hotel.
We had a room with a mezzanine where my 12 year old son slept, who was really enthusiastic about the accommodation.
The location of the hotel is a little outside the center but for us it was excellent for being able to park the car inside (the cost is a little high but everything is expensive in Amsterdam!); the subway is very convenient for getting to the center or the station, the stop is very close. The area is very nice and residential and there are several restaurants nearby.
It's wonderful to have breakfast on the top floor with a 360 degree view of the city; good breakfast with wide choice. Very young atmosphere! If I were to return to Amsterdam I would definitely return to the Volkshotel!

I stayed 4 nights in this hotel during a business trip (small double room). The location is a big plus: in front of the metro station, close to a numbers of bus and tram lines, everywhere is easily reachable, you can also walk to the city centre. The room is tiny, but there's enough space for one person. The bed is comfortable. Wifi is free and works well. There's no working desk in the room, only a small table. There are no shelves in the bathroom/around the sink, which would be useful. The shower and the wc can be seen from the bed, with no privacy at all if the room is shared by 2 people (so this is for all guests to consider).
I appreciated that cleaning is done only after the 4th night, if do not explicitly required by the guest. This is a true compliance to green policies.
Noise isolation could be improved, especially with the noise coming from outside (the hotel is on a busy street). Maybe ask for a room on the backside of the hotel which should be more calm. There's club at the top floor, so I am wondering if upper rooms could be noisy?
I also enjoyed the restaurant (both the location and the food), the breakfast (even if the sweet component is a bit scarce) and the working area in the hotel ground floor. I did not try either the spa or the club.
In any case, my stay was good and I certainly will consider Volkshotel again!

Cool boutique hotel is OK location (about 2km from the old center of Amsterdam). Rooms are clean but layouts and lighting can be funky. Ground floor bar is good, 7th floor Canvas restaurant is surprising good although go early before they crank up the techno-beat music. I'd read reviews that the rooms could be noisy and mentioned this to the front desk staff when I checked in and they put me in a very quiet, copmfortable room.

“ Volkshotel is a place for single moms. For Stockbrokers and punk rockers. For dandies and poets.” … who want to stay up till 7AM?
If you’re booking hotel for sleeping in Thursdays and weekends this might not be it.
As it’s been mentioned in the reviews many many times over the years the noise from the club blasting till 7am was horrible. I had ear plugs on but that didn’t cover the noise nor stop the vibration of the room that the basement tekno was responsible of.
This fact should be communicated to the customers clearly. Mentioning that there is a club isn’t enough.
At 3AM when I went to speak with the reception the only help they could offer was to tell me that the club might close a bit earlier that night.
In the morning 9AM I told the reception staff that I didn’t get any sleep the reaction was just to look at me with a rude expression. When I said I would like to have some compensation she finally gave me a free breakfast. So the level of basic customer service on her part was low. When other member of the staff saw that this situation was upsetting she apologised, made sure we got free breakfast and said that the room we were staying was one of the most noisiest rooms there was. Well great!
This noise problem has been going on at least since 2017 and absolutely nothing effective has been done to fix it. Really disappointing for otherwise great concept.

Young atmosphere, friendly and efficient staff, very particular hotel with modern vintage furnishings. Very convenient for the center, being in front of the metro station. Breakfast, consumed at the restaurant on the top floor, is perhaps a little expensive, but if you are satisfied with coffee and some croissants you can have it in the hotel lobby.

To be clear, the staff are some of the friendliest, most supportive and helpful hospitality workers we have ever encountered. The rooms are small and pretty expensive but nicely designed and clean. The issue is with our last night. We were upgraded because they were "overbooked" with an event. But our room was right over the event which went on till 6am with pounding base and people partying outside as well. We didn't get a moment of sleep. The Volkshotel likes to say that they are not a hotel - more like an event place and I would agree. Anyone over 35 who is looking for a good night's sleep before exploring the city should avoid this "hotel".

We were struggling to find a reasonably priced hotel in Amsterdam and so glad we stumbled across Volkshotel which was very good value for money compared to the ones we found on booking.com. The location is not super central, but it’s only about a 1 min walk from a metro station so very convenient to get to other places and there are restaurants which are walking distance too.
We went with the cheapest XS room, knowing we wouldn’t be in the hotel much. Small as expected but had everything we needed. (Bring your own slippers/flip flops as they don’t have any in the rooms) Bed was pretty comfy and the shower was a good size.
The hotel has its own restaurant, bar, sauna, hot tubs etc. You can hire bikes from the hotel, as well as borrow umbrellas from reception when it’s raining. Last but not least, the staff were very friendly and welcoming here so would definitely want to stay again!

We were both thrilled about staying at Volkshotel, however it turned out to be a huge disappointment. The room (size M) is of decent size, but it has a couple a flaws. It was very dusty when we arrived. The design of the bed is quite awful and one has to be careful not to smash ones had against wooden headboard with sharp edges. Room does not have an extra pillows, tea making facilities, mini fridge, iron etc. The shower is designed in a way that makes water flow all over the bathroom. We were on the third floor facing the street and the level of noise due to the traffic was very noticeable.
The coworking space is mostly unusable as it's open to the public free of charge and it gets very busy very quickly. While it's a good idea in principle, it is not a good value for paying hotel guests.
The breakfast costs €14 pp and it's not a good value for money at all. It's buffet breakfast with very limited choice and lack of freshly cooked food. While filter (or instant? hard to verify) coffee and a choice of teas is included, any other kind of coffee would incur an extra charge.
While the lunch menu in Canvas restaurant is good, we were asked to pay €2.5 for a tiny portion of butter for the bread that was served with the soup.
Whoever sets those rules, probably lacks an experience of working in the hospitality.
Some more about outside noise: we were kept up until around 2 am by a group of people who left the restaurant and decided to continue to party right outside the hotel. To the receptionist's credit, they did make an effort to disperse people once we called and complain about it.
There is not daily housekeeping. The rooms are cleaned/towels replenished after three nights.
One thing that it's really nice about this hotel is sauna on the rooftop. Location is fine too.
All in all, it is Volkshotel is an enormous dissapointemnt. It does not deliver and it's not a good value for money.

I really liked Volkshotel. The location is fantastic: right in front of a metro station and also a pleasant 20-30 minute walk to the center. The lobby is very hip, but the rooms are peaceful and quiet. Staff is nice. I strongly recommend eating breakfast on the rooftop terrace. For an extra 15 euros it was definitely worth the money.
I stayed in a couple different rooms and I would suggest requesting a room on the back and an upper floor if you can, especially if you are staying on a Friday or Saturday night. I didn't hear any noise from the nightclub in the building, but there was some street noise from revelers on the third floor. When I asked to move the staff was very accommodating in helping me get a room on the 6th floor. One more tip is to check the website of the hotel before booking, as there's a better explanation of what each of the rooms is.

The hotel is literally a stone's throw from the metro stop, and to get to the center on foot it takes about 40 minutes of walking. The hotel is quite clean and well organised, in the basement there is a disco while both on the ground floor and on the top floor there are two nice bars. We had a room on the fourth floor and we had no noise problems in the rooms inside the hotel. Unfortunately, however, I have to report some loud noise coming from the street below, but we still managed to sleep at night and rest. It's also a shame for the lack of a kettle with tea and a minibar in the room. The staff speaks only English and is polite and friendly. In short, a very nice hotel close to all amenities (among other things there is a large well-stocked supermarket just a few steps away). Should we return to Amsterdam, this hotel will definitely be our point of reference.

Mini bar only provides for special room. But you can grab snacks and drink from restaurant on first floor with decent price. Or enjoy the drinks on top roof bar.
Really not sure, you’d be better off asking the hotel itself?!?
