The problem with Hotel Tamara is it is absolutely, indescribably horrible, vulgar, stupid, tawdry, depressing, embarassing, filthy, vile, stinky, repugnant, slimy, unclean, nasty, degenerative, mind-numbing ...

This place was in the centre of the city close to Dam Square. For a group of three who was just looking to explore and to experience the nightlife it was excellent. Hotel is a bit old and run down but you get what you paid for, and for the location the price was great.

Filthy, old, smells like Cannabis, one narrow stairwell up 4 floors (screwed if fire), owner guy is an absolute wanker and harasses you every time you enter or exit at night, bed linen has cigarette burns, mattresses are stained, toilet room is tiny, rooms have graffiti... We booked two nights but didn't stay for one, and of course no refunds...... More

We stayed here as a last minute thing after missing our flights. The room was basic, the beds were metal bunk beds that were creaky, the springs in the matress dug into me, and the ladders to the top bunk were broken. My boyfriends bed was next to the window and was broken in the middle due to people kneeling... More

Stayed here for a few nights at the start of October The location is good. It's very central, close to some attractions, a supermarket and coffee shops, but the place itself is in need of some serious tlc. One of the beds was so uncomfortable and seemed so close to breaking that I opted to sleep on a mattress on... More

The stairs are very nerrow ( maximum width is 16 inches) and no lift , so... More

Visited at beginning of October for a quickie weekend break, when we arrived we were told that it was full and we were being put in a room just up the road above an Irish bar and that worked out to but the better place for us. We had a room for just the three of us which was huge... More

Staying in Centrum

Neighbourhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
