Nestled in the heart of Amsterdam, Grand Hotel Amrâth Amsterdam garners praise for its prime location, making it a favorite among travelers keen to explore the city. While the rooms are acknowledged for their generous size, opinions are split regarding their comfort and style, with some guests finding them less than pristine and slightly dated. The hotel's historic charm contributes to a welcoming atmosphere, although a handful of guests suggest a refresh could enhance the ambiance. Amenities, including a commendable spa, are generally appreciated, yet there's a sentiment that for a luxury establishment, the finer details miss the mark. Cleanliness standards receive commendations across the board, but the value proposition is questioned as some guests feel the cost outweighs the experience. Service shines with a friendly touch, though it's occasionally marred by inconsistency.

First up, the hotel has an excellent location - a short walk form Amsterdam Centraal Station which is the hub for trains (including the airport), metro, buses and trams. The hotel has characterful rooms in a very distinctive and historic building. Everything is as you would expect from a top-end luxury hotel - large, airy rooms with functioning temperature control, helpful staff, comfortable beds. I didn't try the spa, but it too sounded better than you'd expect.

Of special note, was the breakfast presentation which was exceptional. I also really liked the bathrooms - spacious, strong water pressure and accessories scaled to fit Dutch people (and anyone else who is tall). The rooms were also amazingly well insulated - I didn't hear anyone else during my stay - housekeeping, other guests, anyone.

The only downside is that you pay for what you get and this is a luxury stay, not a value investment.

Excellent hotel. Staff really friendly and accommodating. Allowed us to check in early.
Both rooms, a double and twin were gorgeous. The decor is in keeping with the style and age of the hotel so if you’re expecting modern find an alternative. The hotel features some really nice touches such as the stained glass ceiling.
The hotel is clean and the rooms were cleaned twice per day.
You also receive complimentary colas and water in the mini fridge each day, totalling 8 per day which is excellent.
The beds were really comfortable and had such a nice sleep each evening. The bathroom was huge with a good selection of toiletries. Good selection of English channels on the tv too.
Only used the spa facilities once and they were lovely and well kept. Unfortunately the saunas were out of use when we went.
Never ate in the restaurant as wanted to use different restaurants around the city. The bar and restaurant area was again immaculate. We did have coffee and tea in there and they added extra touches such as a mini pastry to the tea to show why they are 5 star.
I would certainly stop here again if visiting Amsterdam and highly recommend. I cannot understand negative comments. You are receiving a better level of service and accommodation for little more in cost compared to other hotels in the city.

This was my second trip to Amsterdam. I chose to stay at the Hotel Amrath because of its Hotel Class and Location. The proximity to Amsterdam Centrale made the location the perfect jumping off point to nearby attractions like Gouda, the Hague, Haarlem, and Delft. Each destination made a perfect day trip. The Subway and Trams are also connected to Amsterdam Centrale and convenient day passes are sold underground for use on both within the city. The location is a short walk to Rembrandt Square, the Olde Church, Chinatown, and Montelbaanstoren.

The Hotel itself is stunning. Our room was a corner suite (323) adorned with walnut paneling, cloth wallpaper, art deco lighting, and all the comforts one would expect from a world-class hotel. The staff maintained the room daily without intrusion. The front desk was responsive to our needs which were few. They did go above and beyond for my partner who left his keys in the hotel room at the end of our stay. The staff is top notch.

If you chose this hotel, I would recommend taking one of the two elevators to the top floor and explore the hallways and center atrium. If I ever have the pleasure of another visit in Amsterdam, I intend to stay at the Amrath again. The hotel added much to the quality and enjoyment of our vacation.

Have stayed here many times in the past never again! It’s no longer Grand or a 5 star hotel.
It started badly with only one person on reception this led to delays , the concierge was stood chatting to the porter so unable to help on reception although there was a tailback. The man on reception was inept & doubt his capabilities to manage check in.You now have to pay two separate transactions one for hotel tax the second for 235 euros as deposit , which they say is not taken from your account. This is inaccurate, it will show as a pending transaction on your account & it takes 3 days to clear after check out.We stayed in room 328 , avoid, were told it was a king size bed , it was two singles pushed rather unsuccessfully together so there is a gap. The mattress was so old they had placed toppers on both beds , they were useless as the slid off during the night. The room was never cleaned during our 3 day stay, yes, the fridge was re-stocked & tea & coffees , but it was never dusted or vacuumed. We used the spa on 2 different days & guest had left towels on beds & floor & we never saw anyone from housekeeping clear away or replenish towels. Will never stay here again!

Dear Rob, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback! We deeply regret that your recent stay did not meet the high standards we strive for, and we sincerely apologize for any inconveniences you encountered. Regarding the deposit, I would like to clarify that the deposit is only a hold placed on your card and is not actually charged. This hold is automatically released after checkout, but it may take a few days to clear depending on your bank’s processing times. We apologize for any confusion caused, and we will make sure to provide clearer communication on this in the future. As for the bed in the room, it is a twin bed configuration, not a king-size bed as mentioned. We understand how important comfort is during your stay, and we apologize for the misunderstanding regarding the bed setup. We also regret that the mattress did not meet your expectations, and we will certainly look into this to ensure future improvements. In terms of housekeeping, after reviewing with our team, it was confirmed that the room was cleaned every day during your stay, except for one evening when the "Do Not Disturb" sign was placed on the door. On that evening, housekeeping was unable to service the room, but they did ensure that the room was properly cleaned on all other days. We do apologize if this caused any inconvenience, and we will address this with our Housekeeping manager to ensure future stays are more thorough. We also appreciate your feedback about the reception experience and will take your comments into consideration to improve our service during busy periods. We strive to provide a seamless check-in experience for all our guests, and we regret that this was not the case for you. Once again, we truly apologize for not meeting your expectations and for the issues you faced during your stay. We value your loyalty as a returning guest, and we would love the opportunity to restore your confidence in our hotel. Kind regards, Guest Relations Officer Grand Hotel Amrâth Amsterdam

Just home from a trip to Amsterdam staying at this Hotel. It was in a very good location near the Central Station. It is an old listed building which was been made in to a hotel but this hindered the installation of air con but a fan is provided. The bathroom was very modern. The closet is extremely small with no drawer space. There was only 2 hangers with the lack of storage more hangers should be provided. Bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was very good. This hotel is ranked 5 star but I would rate it 4 star the hotel staff seemed nice but they are a long way off what is expected for 5 star this is a management issue as further training should be given to make the guest feel welcome and valued etc. the staff are doing their best. The area directly outside where the bin was overflowing could have been swept up as its all about first impressions when you arrive.

Dear guest, Thank you for the time you have taken to share your experience with us! We are glad that you appreciated our convenient location near Central Station. We are also pleased that you enjoyed our breakfast offerings. However, we apologize for the inconvenience you encountered during your stay. We understand that the limitations of our building can pose challenges, such as the installation of air conditioning, but we do provide fans to ensure our guests' comfort. We appreciate your suggestion regarding additional hangers and more storage space and we will use it for future improvements. Regarding the level of service, we are sorry to hear that your experience did not meet the 5-star standard we strive to provide. We are committed to providing exceptional service and we will use your feedback to enhance our staff training programs to ensure all guests feel welcome and valued. Thank you again for your valuable feedback. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide you with an exceptional experience. We arrived Sunday morning about 0930 to check our bags and the receptionist told us our room was ready and she could check us in 5.5 hours early!
Room was in the 4th floor over looking the city, room was long and quante, with character.
Bed, mattress and pillows were amazing. Staff were so friendly all during our 3 days / 2 night stay. Mini fridge was restocked for free with Coke, Coke Zero, still water and sparkling water. Sweets in the lobby with the free apples and water were amazing. Staff honesty couldn’t do enough for you and every staff member we encountered we got a hello from. Spa was amazing, pool was like heaven and 3 Saunas, steam room wasn’t working but things happen. The hotel was built in 1912 as HQ for 6 shipping companies and converted into a hotel late so it’s gonna be a bit different. We were never more than 5-8 mins from the main part of the city and the hotel was so quiet. We had lunch in the bar and it was responsibly priced, 2 ham &cheese toasties in sourdough, with salad, a flat white and late for 28.00 was far cheaper than we paid for some rubbish in the city. Well done Amrâth and staff we appreciate you and all of the staff that went out of thier way to welcome us and make us feel like the only guest in the hotel.

We wanted a luxurious and central hotel so we looked at this after looking at the website and reading reviews, but here we were surprised and not in the positive way!
It was an old building with a lot of exciting history, but it was also an eternal labyrinth to find. We first got an incredibly large room that was so claustrophobic for the windows could not be opened and there was so extremely much heavy fabrics and textiles in the room. We were offered another on the street level with a window out to the hectic Central Station, but then a somewhat quieter street. The female staff at the reception was probably so unwelcome, but many gentlemen were very friendly. Breakfast was in the middle of the tree, the pool was very bad and we do not come back here for €300 per night so we feel deceived!

Not sure how this really gets ranked as a 5 Star hotel. Don't normally write reviews but a little hard not to here. The decor of the place really does feel like it needs modernisation. The room is OK, but really nothing special. The bathroom was very ordinary - ours sadly had a very leaky shower tray that flooded the bathroom every time we used it.

The mini bar which we were told was complimentary just had two bottles of water and two cokes. For 5 star I would expect some wine, beer, snacks at least.

We made a coffee in our room and they only had whitener? No milk at all. We asked for milk and room service brought us more whitener. Not sure whitener really says '5 star'

They may have been having a bad day but we struggled to get a reply when we dialled down to reception and after having seen some of the other 5 star hotels on thw walk into town that felt a lot more likw what we were after I think we wished we'd stayed somewhere else. Just no 'WOW' factor really and all felt very dark and oppressive.

Spent a small fortune on 3 nights here with my Stepdaughter. Although it is a very beautiful building we found the room uncomfortable, very poor lighting, the shower door was broken, no bottle openers provided for the mini bar. I also brought my own tea bags from home and the cleaners removed them!
I had already made the hotel aware that I have a dairy allergy. When we came for breakfast we were expected to pay €27 each, there was harder it any food that was dairy free and when I asked if the chef could make me something the answer was no. I waiting 20mins for a sloppy poached egg. All the hot food was cold and other than one member of staff that was very helpful I found the staff to lack interest. Needless to say we didn’t pay for our breakfast. Stayed in much nicer cheaper hotels in Amsterdam. Won’t be returning or recommending

Stayed 4 nights, reception was basic not much information given on arrival, escorted to the newer part of the hotel through corridors that look like something from the shining, room was a nice size tho not able to open a window they where screwed shut we also couldn’t open our curtains as it looked directly into apartments opposite, mini bar in fridge but no drinks price list we asked at reception but no one knew prices and said there is a price list in the room, we double checked but there wasn’t any info at all.
(On check out the one bottle of water I drank was €5 ! )
Bath was excellent size and water was pumping hot heated floor in bathroom was nice, rooms had an iron and ironing board in wardrobe.

We didn’t eat or drink in the hotel I definitely would of had room service if the €15 charge wasn’t so high also probably would of drank more out of the mini bar but didn’t like to as had no idea of the cost.

House keeping was ample with beds made each day and clean towels etc
