OK Place on the edge of the red light district. Face it how much time do you spend in your room. if you are looking for a safe place to sleep it fits the bill. no services, no elevator it's a place to crash

have stayed here several times over last 10+ years and the character has changed quite a bit recently. Its got an epic location and rooms for singles, couples or groups that are cheap and reasonably clean. The best part of the pale used to be the bar and the Dutch staff and billiards etc. The bar used to feature a...

Stayed on better park benches than at this place, The staff are rude and hate anyone not Dutch. The place absolutely stank, I don't think it had EVER been cleaned! We use the sinks in the public toilets to wash and brush our teethe its that bad, luckily we was only there one night. Anne Frank had better facilities.

We stayed for two nights. The main floor lobby smelled of dirty kitty litter. Friendly front desk staff. Stairs are steep up to the first floor. Room big enough for two trundle beds. Tiny sink in the corner and a questionable shower stall. Bed and bedding clean. Carpet not so much. Across the canal from the Red Light District. Best...

Ok, let's get this out the way, it's cheap. You can't moan if you book a cheap hotel. It's in a great location. Right in the middle of everything. Perfect for a stag do I'd say. That's if you don't have fussy people in your party that is. Other than that, it's a dive. Looking at the photos from 2012...

Ideal location in the middle of the red light district. Went on a stag do with friends so this hotel was used to dump our bags and get our heads down. I wouldn't take my girlfriend or kids here. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Beds comfy enough. Although 2 of us woke up with a couple of bites after sleeping....

My other half was very unwell on our last night in the dam. Mike was a star and spent some time finding nearest Dr for him to go to. Medicine bought and last day not too painful. Thanks Mike Room was adequate and nice view of the canal. The other day time staff should take a leaf out of Mike's...

Really don't see what the problem is with this hotel, think some reviewers need to lower their expectations and take into account location and price of this place. We booked the crown after having drank here on our previous annual visits to Amsterdam, couldn't believe how cheap the room rate was, considering this is right in the middle of the...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
