We spent 12 days at "The Collector B&B" (partly work and partly vacation) and this was the best experience we have ever had. Everything was perfect: location (both central and quiet), room (spacious, clean, and comfortable), breakfast (excellent choice of food, large well-equipped kitchen), and,...More
The Collector is a three bedroom B&B. My wife and I stayed for a week while I attended a conference. The rooms are very large and comfortable, with two at the back overlooking a garden and the other facing the street, which is the one...More
My boyfriend and I recently visited Amsterdam and we stayed at the Collector based on some of the reviews we found in TripAdvisor. If we ever go back to Amsterdam we would definetely stay at the same place. It was exactly what we were looking...More
Like many others here, we decided to reserve a room at the Collector after reading so many glowing reviews. We stayed for a total of 9 nights, and I feel we could not have chosen a better B&B! Everything was superb on so many levels!...More
I first stayed at The Collector in April 2005 with my husband and daughter...it was so good that when I returned in 2008 with my brothers, sister and brother-in-law to Amsterdam we booked it immediately!
Needless to say, it was fantastic! Karel has the place...More
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping

destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.

If we begin with the ground floor as being at street level, then yes, all the rooms are on the 1st floor.
The building is typical of most homes in the city and the stairs are built steeper than normal. If you have large suitcases (measured 30inches across diagonally like TV screens) and heavy (25kg) you will need to have the strength to haul them up.
Small trolley bags and overnight bags will not be a problem or even back packs. ( mountaineers climb steeper and with even heavier bags- 100kg!)
But the location is unbeatable if you want to be near the bus stop that the airport express #197 serves ( Museumplein - 5 euros paid to driver, no cheaper if buying return). I prefer taking the bus then the train from Central.. too much hassle and way too many travellers.
And the rooms are very, very comfortable. Each with their own themes! much better than any chain hotel.. very personalised, clean and creative!
It is also less than 200m from the concert hall if you are there for music festivals.
There is a small square behind the building where it is turned into a farmers' market for organic food ( Sat only ) The smoked mackeral here is fantastic ( 5 euros a fish)
Mr Karel Poels ( the host ) is a wonderful host and most willing to share lots of tips on having a great time in AMS. ( but it would be most unfair to ask him to carry bags up!)
