Other reviewers have already said it all. This is a delightful B & B in a lovely house in a fashionable part of Amsterdam. Ideally placed for all the tourist attractions, museums, Concertgebouw 50m away (free concerts on Wednesday lunchtimes). Karel makes sure you have everything you need but leaves you to your own devices, Help-yourself breakfast with well stocked...

This was our first visit to Europe and Amsterdam in particular. We were very concerned about hotel room sizes in Europe after reading Rick Steves, Frommers and other travel guides. But a friend of my daughters mentioned she loved The Collector and we decided to give it a try. Having never stayed in a B@B before(because my wife didn't want...

we had a great time at The Collector from March 6 to 10, 2008. Karel is extremely obliging, has excellent info at hand and can advise you on what ever your interests are in Amsterdam and beyond in Holland. The large room was very nice, with a good view; the tram stops right outside and we walked all over in...

Stayed here 2 nights in March for 105 euros per night. It was very clean and a good location. The self serve kitchen is the best idea. Everything you would possibly want and or need is there for the taking. I liked not having to be at breakfast at a particular time. We enjoyed the comfortable beds and staying at...

We stayed 3 nights at Karel's place - the trip was a 40th birthday present for my partner, and it couldn't have been more perfect... This really is a special place to stay - the house is beautiful and intriguing, combining quirkiness with luxury thanks to spotlessly clean rooms and a deliciously comfortable bed that was nearly as big as...

We found The Collector on Trip Advisor. All the reviews we read were excellent. Our experience staying at The Collector verified that all the good things in those reviews were absolutely correct! We stayed three days. The pictures on the other postings are accurate. This was our first trip to Europe. We are an average couple in our mid-sixties. We...

My husband and I stayed for a week at the Collector B&B in January. We absolutely LOVED it. The rooms were beautiful, clean, and big. The huge window opened out onto a balcony that overlooked the garden area. The tram stopped right outside of the building, so we could get any where in the city in minutes. The B&B was...

Stayed here for a week. Excellent host, he even bought in low fat milk for breakfast and told me where I could get a pair of cheap hobby glasses after my own (prescription) were damaged. Room was very comfortable and there was always food available in the fridge. Perfectly situated in a quiet part of town, just behind the Concertgebouw...

We stayed 5 nights in mid September this year. At first we were weary about preparing our own breakfast but it was perfect!! You had everything that you can possibly need at the time you want. No need to wake up at certain time to have breakfast. The rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. You have a small balcony that you...

This B&B was so easy to get to. We paid 110 euro a night and we had the biggest room in the house. My bf & I enjoyed sitting out on the balcony (regardless how cold it was). The area was clean. The tram could be a bit loud in the morning when your trying to sleep in. Karel was...

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Collector Bed and Breakfast offers bright, stylish and spacious rooms, each with its distinct own character: one decorated with Amsterdam School (Deco) furniture, the other one with Gispen Dutch Design classics. Both rooms have an ensuite bathroom. There's a guest kitchen for your breakfast around the clock. You will find a well stocked fridge, fresh fruits, a Nespresso coffee machine and lots more. Amenities include bath robes, a hair dryer, toiletries, a safety box, a guest computer to use for internet and email and there's even a bagage storage in case of early arrival or late departure. Here you will be able to freshen up, too. The house dates back to 1914 and is located just behind the Museum square with the Concert Hall (Concertgebouw), the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh and the Stedelijk Museum. The 17th century canal area is just a 10 minute walk from the B&B. There is direct bus line nearby for transfers from and to the airport. Your host Karel Poels is an active collector, who can tell about his different collections with lots of enthusiasm. You will find those collections in the guest rooms and the rest of the house: unique Dutch wooden skates, branded pins, chinaware, you name it! ... more   less
