Excellent service and excellent breakfast/food. Great deal for the location. Well kept. Lovely owners/people running the place. Very helpful. Great location, beside the RLD but not in it. Not more than a 20 minute walk from all the best to see and do in the city. Superb coffee. Lovely older building. Would recommend it in a heartbeat. If I go...

From the moment we checked in and met Rachel, we wished we were staying at this hotel more than two nights! Rachel and Pepijn are very gracious and friendly, the location is wonderful, the room was large and the bed was very comfortable. We had been in London previously with a very soft bed, and really appreciated this one. The...

We stayed at Misc for two nights and enjoyed our stay. We were greeted warmly by Pepijn and later Rachel. Very warm and frinedly. The stairs are steep and Pepijn took our luggage up while we went to the carpark. We originaly were planning on parking at the Arena but drove in to drop luggage and Pepijn told us to...

We do not often review, only when excellent or horrible. This was an excellent stay. From their sending a cab to the airport so we don't get ripped off, to the comfortable and spacious room, the excellent breakfast and the close proximity to everything. This was a great stay, would recommend and go back anytime.

At first I couldn’t put my finger on it, but by the end of my stay at misc eatdrinksleep it finally came to me. Staying here was like revisiting my college dormitory from over forty years ago (but not necessarily in a bad way). The similarities were striking: small refrigerator with snacks and beer, small bathroom, small shower, a ‘bed...

We stayed one night at misc eatdrinksleep and wished we could have stayed for longer. After arriving from an overnight intercontinental flight Rachel greeted us warmly and gave us directions for a short walking tour of the city while we waited for our room to be available. Knowing that we were totally exhausted from our flight, she offered to text...

I have become of late a bit cynical about top rated hotels on Tripadvisor, often it leans towards the B&B type experience with (for me) intrusively personal service and "meeting the family" rather than just good solid professional hospitality. This place, quite simply is a little gem & I see no reason to stay anywhere else in Amsterdam. Its small,...

I stayed at Misc Hotel with my partner as we've heard that it is a great place to be plus, you can get helpful tips from the owners where to go and what to do. It's also located just in the heart of the historic district and market. We were met by the very gracious owners and did chit chat...

We were very happy throughout a week-long stay in our canal view room at misc eatdrinksleep. The room was spacious with enough room to walk around and to sit in a chair or at the desk during downtime. The large bed was extremely comfortable, and the pillows were of high quality, so we slept wonderfully. Occasional street noise was not...

A great little boutique hotel within walking distance of everything! Pepijn and Rachel were great hosts. There was a welcome bottle of prosecco, made to order breakfasts, and a constantly stocked mini bar and coffee maker. The canal view room was great. There was a white noise machine for use if the natives got too restless outside!

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.

“If you're an urban dweller, the canal-facing rooms won't seem too loud. As a New Yorker, I had no need of the white noise machine that was thoughtfully provided. The owners seem to think the quieter garden-view rooms in the rear are better, though, so if silence is important to you, try those. Be aware that there's no elevator and the steps are typically (for Amsterdam) steep and winding.”
