NH Museum Quarter is a bit off, but OK for convenience to Museums and other attractions. The room upgrade to a glass walled "penthouse" seemed great till we discovered there were no drawers to put clothes. Front desk said it was the design but they would send extra hangers. The windows were dirty but when the light is right, the... More

As a retired teacher of English and the humanities, I wanted to be located in an area with easy access to Amsterdam's two major museums. Imagine my surprise when Delta Vacations offered two choices, one of which was NH Museum Quarter. I jumped at the chance. My granddaughter was a 20 minute bike rider away. But, as she always said,... My husband and I decide to go to Madrid and Amsterdam for our wedding anniversary. I made the reservation and read afterwards on TripAdvisor and I got a bit concerned because some comments were making reference to walls being dirty, someone mention only a cash deposit could have being left for incidentals, construction noise etc. Well, I'm happy to share... Only about two blocks from the Van Gogh museum. However, this puts you quite a hike from central Amsterdam. Overall the hotel seems worn and in need of some sprucing up. The carpet in the rooms seemed very dirty, particularly against the walls, really needed a good vacuuming. Mold and mildew in the showers. Wouldn't stay there again.

The hotel is near the Museumplein, some good restaurants and the tram stop. The river in front of the hotel is also a charm. The space of the room is enough for the couple, the bed is good and there isn´t noise. I think the breakfast could improve the experience.

I realize that best things are made by small details. Due my job I always analize my colleagues when I go to restaurants and hotels. Good hotel in a great location right in the middle of the museum district. We were 10 minutes walk from local attrctions, and no more than 20 minutes walking to everything else. The hotel is close to public transit, and central to sevaral shopping districts. My only complaint is that the room has no dressers. There are no drawers for... More

Stayed 3 nights. Good room and breakfast. We dined elsewhere. The area on the other side of the canal has a range of restaurants and shops. Close to the main museums, within a reasonable walking distance of the centre of town and with tram stop 150 metres away. A good base for a tourist.

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
