Travellers' Choice
The Amsterdam Canal Hotel reinvents the urban hotel for the people who look for a quality visit in exciting Amsterdam. We crave experience more than hospitality clichés. We are curious about the historic buildings we inhabit and let them guide us to someplace both warm, fresh and authentic. We appeal to a broad spectrum of urban travelers, without reducing everything to the lowest common denominator.

They sent me an email the day before our reservation, that their hotel was closed. Also that it basically was my fault because I hadn’t checked with them if the hotel was still open. But there was no information on their homepage that it was closed. This is what they wrote to me: In our reservation system, I saw that you have a reservation at our hotel for arrival 1 September 2021. Unfortunately, our hotel is still closed due to the corona crisis. We would very much like to welcome you to our hotel, however we will have to choose a later date in the future for that. Most of our guests send us an email well before they finalize their travel plans, to verify whether their stay with us can continue. Unfortunately we have not received such request well in advance.

A really cute little hotel with lovely modern rooms and in a very good and central location. The breakfast was really good and the staff were very helpful - just beware that there are no lifts, which can be a challenge on the higher floors! Would definitely stay here again.

I stayed with this hotel based on the good reviews for a one night stay in Amsterdam. It’s possible the management changed? When I arrived, there was a maintenance man in my room and a mess outside that stayed the night I was there. The a/c was broken and was not fixed. I advised the front desk, and they told me they were aware and should use the portable a/c. But the portable a/c was not set up so another person came to fix that. It was incredibly loud all night, and required because the room did not appear to have a window I could open. On top of that, the floors were filthy, particularly in the bathroom. I noticed when I walked around barefoot, and when I put my feet up on the bed, the sheets were brown. Visible dust everywhere; many surfaces hadn’t been cleaned on a long time. There was no coffee or tea, and after some was brought, I realized the coffee maker was broken. All in all, not a great visit.

We stayed here for only 1 night for a long layover before travel to Africa. The hotel was in communication before we left the US, giving us detailed directions to the hotel from the airport. It's easy and quick to take the train to Central station, then the Tram to an intersection near the hotel. The staff were all efficient and pleasant. The complimentary wine and snacks and included breakfast were great and appreciated. Our plane left late the next day, so we stored our luggage there and walked the immediate area and the museum district , all felt safe. The area is quiet for a good night's sleep. We will stay again if in Amsterdam.
