We have recently returned from our stay at the Luxer. It was a very comfortable Hotel in a very convenient position for the station, trams and canal tours. The staff were very helpful. The bedrooms were warm and well equipped. I would advise rooms on the back as the street in front could be noisy. Breakfasts were adequate with a...

I have stayed in this hotel three times already and it´s a great place if you want to be near the red light district main streets. The hotel is located in the middle of the RLD and offers great rooms. It is also walking distance from Central Station.

A very nice little hotel. Very clean, modern, welcoming. Don't book for the views from the room, but the location is great for exploring this fabulous city. Also recommend the Segway tour - a great way to see the sights.

I usually book big chain hotels but wanted something more central in the city. I'm so glad we booked the Luxer and will return. The hotel is right in the middle of everything but once you go inside is peaceful & quiet. I liked that day & night the foyer is locked so only residents can enter. The room was...

My partner and I visited Amsterdam and stayed here for 4 nights. Wee were greeted by a really helpful manager who showed us up to our room and then upgraded us as she had a bigger room free - a bonus and greatly appreciated! Hotel Luxer is very central, located about 10 mins walk from the train station and about...

I selected this hotel by looking at some wonderful reviews of this place for many reasons: Excellent Location, Excellent staff & Excellent Breakfast... But surprisingly only thing that we got was "Excellent Location". Trust me, if you just want the location, stop here, for everything else, I would suggest to look somewhere else. Disappointed because: 1. The staff may have...

I booked online for a single room as I was on a solo trip. I was immedietaly greeted by a front desk clerk/bartender Marcin who was exceptionally sweet and welcoming. He gave me recommendations on where to go as I was new to Amsterdam. I was put in a single room with a double bed and it was exactly what...

We spent two nights here on a mid week visit based on recommendations from Trip Advisor reviews. We definitely made the right choice as we really were in the heart of the city! When leaving the front of the Central Station walk straight ahead, over the bridge and the hotel can be found down on the left of the street....

We spent 5 nights at the Hotel Luxer and were pleased with the standards it provided. The hotel is in a great location on the edge of the Red Light district which means that public transport and countless restaurants, bars and coffee shops are no more than a few minutes away. The Van Gogh and Rijkks museums are about 3.5...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
