When me and my friends saw the reviews and the hostel photos (after we booked it) we were terrified. We booked 4beds in a 6beds room. They gave us a room with 4beds just for us. The room was on the 3rd floor (there are no lifts), but that was ok. When we arrived to the 3rd floor we saw...

We booked this as it was the cheapest we could find after leaving it pretty late to book. The location is great, about a minute from the red light district, the coffee shops and the station. However on the first day one of us got bitten by bed bugs really badly. We complained after a problem in that the manager...

Excellent location, right on the edge of the Red Light District. Bar downstairs with a back area onto a canal which is ideal for some beers in the sun! Rooms were of a serviceable standard with very nice en-suite. Reception were happy to hold onto passports, valuables etc. As a group of three 26 year old lads booking the day...

After reading some of the atrocious reviews, my friends and I were a bit apprehensive about staying here, but right from our arrival it was clear there was nothing to worry about. The location is fantastic, right next to the station as well as the red light district. The beds were clean and comfortable, so was the rest of the...

This was the most over priced place for what ya get I have ever stayed at. Rooms are terrible felt like I was in a detention centre, don't even supply towels, no air conditioning, unfriendly staff and the list goes on. Payed for 3 nights but left after just 2 and went elsewhere.

Mega central! <10 minute walk from Amsterdam central station and on the same street/canal as the red light district. The staff are friendly, the food is OK and the beer is cheap! (At least when we went when bottles of heiniken were €2.50!) As a group of 8 we had 2 quad rooms for 3nights which were clean, comfy and...

Myself, along with two other girls stayed here during the 2nd week of July, and it was our first stop over whilst 'Interrailing' through Europe. We received a warm welcome and good information about the hostel and their rules as such. Our eight bed dorm was full of backpackers from Brazil, England and Northern Ireland (Great way to meet new...

This hostel was a complete rip off, expensive and very poor quality. It's clear the hostel is just aiming for the bare minimum- no common area, no kitchen, wifi only really works in bar under hostel. Bathrooms are unclean and difficult- there was absolutely nowhere to hang towels/clothes in the showers. Beds seem clean. Rooms cramped and don't get cleaned...

The location is right on the border of the red light district and it has its own 'smoking room' but the rooms were cramped, old and generally dirty with little security for your stuff. I'd only stay here again if I really had to. Beds were uncomfortable and they pack as many beds as can possibly fit into a room.

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
