First of all, this is not a hotel but a hostel. In the reception, sometimes deserted, there are homeless and even drug dealers at night. We booked, paying over 400 euros per night, one bedroom with private ensuite bathroom 8: this room has never existed. They gave us a dormitory for 8 with shared bathroom, telling us in that bathroom...

Set in the heart of the tourist area. The Globe have friendly staff and a great bar. Cheaper drinks than most bars. It has a garden area next to the canal. (No protective fencing). 2 times happy hours Sunday to Thursday. Local coffee shop opposite the hotel to the left. Also right in the heart of the Red light district....

Under no circumstances would I recommend this place to any sort of travellers. Bed bugs visibly crawling around the beds. No windows in the room. Staff in the bar reacted to our room number with "oh that room". The place needs to be closed down

Nine of us recently stayed for 2 nights, we had a 6 person room and a 3 person room. Upon arrival, they allowed us to check in an hour early which was good, but there was confusion over the cost of the rooms as we had previously cancelled a room, and as the website we booked through took the deposit,...

Place is a complete nightmare. Was in Room 104. Half a window which was neither open or shut. it was crazy warm with no way of cooling it down. It had been hoovered for us coming, but that looked about it. Was a last minute booking to make a stag do, but I'd still expect basic stuff. Like a window...

This was my first hostel that I have stayed in, I went with myself and two friends and we had booked into a room with 5 other beds in. The hostel had average amenities - fresh towels from reception and shower/toilet in room was ok. The wifi only worked in the bar, which was fine and drinks were reasonable. The...

This place is pretty much what you would expect from a central Amsterdam hostel. The private triple room I shared with two friends was functional, spacious and the bathroom (which looked recently re-done) was actually very nice. As you would expect, there were a lot of loud groups of lads so if you are wanting to get to sleep any...

Great place to stay with friends for the weekend. Excellent location right in the center of Amsterdams Red Light District and only a short walk from the central station. Nice outside area with tables by the canal, which even though the hostel is very central, its still in a fairly quiet tucked away location. The room was good, the lack...

If you are hoping to be in the center of the excitement and fun of the red light district, and walking distance from most attractions, this is a fun place! Standard beds, room fairly clean, good service, bathroom small and not great but ensuite was helpful. Lockers were good, bring your own lock. No wifi in the rooms only in...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
