Stayed at the Rokin for 2 nights. We arrived in Amsterdam exhausted from our long flight, took a cab to the Rokin where we needed to carry our luggage up the steps to get into the lobby. No ramp, no bellman, nada!! If you are elderly or have a physical disability, then this hotel is not for you! Our room...

I was in a single room on the second floor of this hotel. Size, although small, was adequate for a solo traveller and looked out over busy Rokin Street. My only negative comment would be about the spiral stair to the basement breakfast room. This is common in Amsterdam so if stairs are a problem this would not be suitable....

It is one of the worst hotels I have visited! First starting with the receptionist, he was very unfriendly with a dry face.. Second the rooms facilities were under basic level! We had a room on the upper floor and the room was like a stove, very hot and no AC in the room, yet they have placed a small...

This was a great place to stay, located within walking distance of the main square. The room was located at the top of the building so it was a bit drafty but it had everything we needed. I found it slightly over priced as it was quite basic.

My sons' have asked me to write their review on their recent first solo holiday, staying at the Rokin. In brief the good points were:- a perfect location, exceptionally comfortable beds, all you can eat breakfast (limited variety). Room cleaned every day to a high standard, staff friendly and helpful. The bad points were:- they were in a room at...

Great location. Friendly staff. Allowed me to check into my room at 11AM ish. Conformable bed and pillows. There's an extra wool blanket for those who gets very cold. I was given a room on the 4th floor, which requires one to walk up a flight of stairs - not a problem for me. It adds to the experience.

We enjoyed our stay, central location, everything within walking distance, basic accommodation but very clean. We had room 41 on the 4th floor, nice room overlooking the road, small but had everything we needed. Staff were very helpful, especially on reception.

Just returned from a few days in Amsterdam, stayed 3 nights at the Rokin Hotel, excellent location just off Dam Square, spotlessly clean, room was quite small and simply furnished, but perfect for a short city break. The staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast included which was a good choice of cereals, fresh toast and breads, cheeses, meats, bacon and scrambled...

Set in the heart of Dam square near lots of popular attractions. Fantastic Indian restaurant across the road and lots of popular bars located to the side of the hotel where you can sit and eat / drink. Excellent service at the hotel and a really nice breakfast to set you up for the day. We couldn't have picked a...

Great for quick stay. Room was a good size but bathroom a bit small. Big window and nice natural light. Free wifi. Easy walk to dam square and red light district - walk to central station about 10mins. Breakfast was delicious with lots of options. Hotel was clean and well fitted out. Staff helpful.

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
