6 of us stayed in the bunk bed star wars themed room. Quite spacious considering there was 6 of us in there each with our own light and storage area. Nice and clean room and clean and tidy bathroom. Very reasonably priced in an excellent location to visit amsterdam. Would definitely recommend and go again :-)

Could not get a better location for somewhere to stay! Right in the centre of the red light district, 10 minutes walk from central station, 5 minutes to dam square and so many other attractions. There are steep stairs in the hostel with no elevator which could be a problem for some. The rooms are quite spacious with lockers which...

Stayed for 3 nights at the end of June with one other friend at the beginning of our interailing trip. I can just say you pay for what you get. Was in a room of 8, the beds were comfortable, shower was good and the bathroom was cleaned everyday. However my plug socket and light didn't work next to my...

Mixed feelings. We paid €2000 for 7 people, 5 days. A bit over priced considering the size of the room and overall cleanliness. Suppose you're paying for the location as its right in the centre of all the night life (Red light district). Every morning I woke up to small bug bites.. The bathroom was very cramped and the extractor...

I would recommend staying in this hostel if you are only in Amsterdam a few days, the rooms were kept very clean and fresh towels were provided everyday. The WIFI was very good and could get signal all around the hostel. You can rent Hairdryers, Irons, Plugs etc from the reception for 5 Euros. I did have a private room...

We stayed here as a group of 8 friends so we booked 2 4 bed dorm rooms! All the rooms are movie themed, the boys had Priscilla Queen of the Desert (!!!) and the girls had Men in Black! Go figure!! The rooms were not cramped at all, nice shower with good heat and pressure, and the beds although a...

First time to stay in hostel. 12-bed dormitory with individual lockers and sockets provided. Walking distance to central station. Only concern is the location because it's in the middle of red light district. Recommended for solo travelers (even female)

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
