Stayed in this hotel as a family for a few days in August, before kids went back to school. Hotel was very close to train station which was good and made a good base for our first visit to city. Room was spacious and clean and had everything we needed except a kettle! Huge windows overlooking Centraal Station. Noise from...

Great place and Location. The only letdown for me, was the lack of free Wifi, yes you could buy 5 Euro's worth of internet time. Take note! Wifi is free in most public places in the United Kingdom, eg Bars, hotels, trains stations even banks.

We are four women traveling to UK, FR, NL for 12 days. We booked this location (close to the train, 4 single beds, close to action). Room was large, clean, dated. Breakfast included. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Thank you Matt for your guidance. Our room faced the train station, 2nd floor. It was loud. Again, we picked based on...

This Hotel is a pleasant Home away from home. Staff very helpful, answered all my questions. And then there is the very excellent coffee, that too is a reason to come back. I arrived by train and sure enough, the Hotel is a short walk away from Amsterdam Central. Travelling by myself, I need a place where I feel safe....

I chose to spend a couple of days in Amsterdam to break up a long trip from the middle of Canada to Rwanda. This hotel offers an excellent location, central to the train station, Red Light District, exhibitions, etc. - a great base from which to tour the city. The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet...

The service was very good. All the staff were friendly and polite. The fact that breakfast was included was a bonus, it was plentiful and a good selection. The room was pretty basic but decent. We had a double room and the bed was a really good size and comfortable. The location was great, absolutely excellent. Close to Amsterdam's Centraal...

I wanted to stay at a place near the Amsterdam Central Station. I came across the Hotel Prins Hendrik,on the street with the same name. You can literally see The train station from the hotel lobby and bar. I checked in with (Thomas) the front desk guy. He was great, funny, nice and accommodating. He checked me in swiftly. Which I was...

The Prins Hendrick is reasonably priced and ideally situated. The service was good; breakfast was buffet style with plenty of choice, Our room was basic but a good size, with an enormous, comfortable bed, and it overlooked the front of the hotel and the pavement café. The Red Light District is just around the corner and packed with reasonable places...

I have stayed at this hotel twice, the last time earlier this year. Would I go back to it? Possibly, and I might suggest it to other visitors, but with one or two caveats. The location is excellent - just across from the Central Station, and the tram and 'bus central stops. The main shopping area is a few minutes...

I primarily wanted a hotel that was cheap for one night and was close to the Railway station. Both of those are true of the Prins Hendrik. After what seemed a great start the staff turned out to be vague and their administration was bad enough that someone from "housekeeping" wandered into my room at 1.30am. They left quick enough...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
