Arrived late in a taxi & the door was opened before we even had our bags from the cab by Adam👍🏻 He checked us in while our guys took the bags UP Stairs! Typical Amsterdam.... Steep, Steeper, Steepest!!! Top floor on the first night but we left a request for a lower floor next day & thanks to the lovely... More

Stayed at Hotel Hortus for 2 nights in a family room and one night in a double. Both rooms were clean and comfortable and staff at the hotel were incredibly helpful - allowing us to leave our bags as we arrived before check-in and after check-out. Because 2 of us were staying an extra night they also made sure our... More

I stayed here for a long weekend as part of a 12 man stag do. It was perfect for everything we needed. Close enough to the Center that you could walk back after a few to many pints. Rooms and hotel were clean. The female receptionist was very informative when we checked in. Would recommend for a cheap hotel where... More

I booked myself and my hens in here for a long weekend. If you want cheap but clean and close to the center this might just be the place for you. Short walk to the zoo and rembrandt square. Beds were clean and comfortable and staff were friendly. I would definitely stay here again and will recommend it to everyone.... More

Good breakfast, nice enough room - had a sink in it which was handy. There were bikes available to hire from the hostel which was great and they let us leave our luggage with them on our last day. It was perhaps a little overpriced but we didn't mind too much. Our only real issue with the place was the... More

The location of the hotel is rather good but so far the positive news. The rooms are very small and old, you can hear people in the room next to you and there is quite some noise at night. Breakfast is very basic (bread, eggs, some ham and jam). We have no wifi signal in our room. The water in... More

Staff friendly and helpful. Gave us a map and circled all the best coffeeshop's etc. Rooms small but comfortable enough for a weekend. Has a outdoor smoking area so you don't need to leave the hotel itself. Would recommend.

Recently stayed here with 2 other friends for a short R&R after working in London. This great hotel/hostel is tucked into a beautiful hidden corner of Amsterdam next to the botanical garden and only a short walk to the centre of Dam proper. Everything you need is right nearby from cafe to supermarket. Like most places in Amsterdam expect stairs... More

This hotel is not a hotel it is something like a hostel. The room was as in a prison cell without windows 2 m2. I never sleep in place like this. It was a nightmare. The room was at 3 third floor with very steep stairs.

Generally a good stay for four nights. On arrival was greeted by manager who explained everything well, overall all staff members were helpful, especially the woman who was on duty in the evenings. The single room was small but adequate, tap in sink was a bit broken. First night was very noisy and the doors bang a lot. Following nights... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
