The ED Amsterdam Hotel boasts a unique and vibrant atmosphere that many find refreshing compared to more standard accommodations. While the rooms earn praise for their cleanliness and modern touches, guests often note their compact size. The hotel's central location is a highlight, offering both easy access to attractions and a quiet environment.
Cleanliness is consistently applauded, though the value proposition is questioned by some due to high costs and unexpected charges. Service is generally well-regarded, despite occasional lapses and a more automated check-in process.

Detailed Reviews
This is a 3 star hotel in a great location. All main Amsterdam attractions are within a 25-min walking distance. The area as well as the whole Amsterdam city are very safe. We stayed as a family of 3 in a triple room. Check in and check out were quick and there is a room to store your belonging. The hotel is small but lovely, decoration is quirky and staff were nice in general. The WI-FI is excellent. Breakfast was continental but very nice. The rooms have a safe and a small fridge but are not spacious. Our room was on the 4th floor and was very quiet. Bus 397 from and to the airport is a 5 mins walk and cost 6.5 euros/person. The hotel only provides breakfast so you need to go out and have lunch/dinner. There is a pizza place next to the hotel and a mini market within 5 -mins walk. Vondelpark is an awesome beautiful park within 5 -mins walk. This hotel is a very good option if you are planning to explore Amsterdam and spend most of the time outside.
Things that we didn't enjoy/like:
1) Lift allows 2 people only and as were were a family of 3 we couldn't use it at the same time. Sometimes the lift would take long to arrive with no indication which floor was on.
2) Our room was very warm. We had to sleep with the air condition on and it took us a few days to find the right balance between the aircondition temperature and use of duvets.
3) We checked in on Thursday and by Sunday late afternoon our room was not cleaned. We had to ask the reception to send someone to clean it and in all fairness, they sorted it out very quickly.
4) We went for breakfast on a Sunday at 08:30 (breakfast was available from 07:30) as we planned a visit to Rijksmuseum at 09:00. When we arrived, there were no eggs (boiled and scrambled) and pancakes. The lady told us that they made a late start. As our child ate mostly pancakes for breakfast, he didn't eat much on that day and we also had to leave without having eggs for breakfast. Worst part was that we could hear the staff arguing and one lady in particular was very vocal and grumpy, our child could also hear them. Everything seemed to run slower on that Sunday, possibly due to staff shortage.
Overall this hotel is a good choice if you manage to find a good deal and as long as you don't mind some of the issues mentioned above. It is likely that single travellers or couples wouldn't mind about these things to the same extend as families.

Dear Mr Panagiotis, Thank you so much for your stay and for sharing your experience with us. We are happy to read that you had a good stay with us. I received your notes this morning from the front desk which you left them while checking out. My apologies for the behaviour of our breakfast staff. Due to transport problems she came in late and she took her problem out on her colleague which she should not have. She should have just started up the breakfast right away instead of arguing with het colleague. I have spoken to her this morning and showed her your review; it will not happen again. We hope to welcome you back to The ED soon. Best regards, Hans Komen – General Manager

The Ed's location is great, close to the museum campus and within walking and tram distance of all the hustle and bustle of the nightlife areas. Our rooms on the 4th floor, but there is an elevator. Our room was in the back so it was nice and quiet. We like it when the windows open so we can let in some fresh air. When we stayed the hotel was calm and quiet. I liked the water fountain they have for filling up water bottles right inside the lobby door. We felt the price for breakfast was rather high so we did not eat there. Just across the canal there is a market that all the locals were stopping at for morning coffee and rolls, we did the same and enjoyed sitting in the park across the street from the ED

The hotel is in a really good location and for a great price considering the high quality of the room and overall stay. I love the design of the hotel it’s so unique and there is a lovely vibe there. The reception area has lots of settees and coffee tables as well, making it look and feel a lot more homely than most hotels. The hotel is close to the Leidseplein tram stop where you can get to loads of places around the city from, but they are all also in walking distance (we spent the first day walking everywhere before we discovered how easy the trams are to use). The hotel is also close to shops, cafes, restaurants, coffeeshops, and also Vondelpark, which I think is a must-visit in Amsterdam, especially if it’s sunny.
We were on the top floor of the hotel, and the room was bigger than expected based on past reviews and photos, with a large bed that was very comfortable, with big pillows. The room and bathroom were also very modern and included everything we needed; hairdryer, towels, toilet roll, shower gel, shampoo etc. there is also a mini fridge, coffee machine and a safe.
The breakfast was included with the price of the hotel and included loads of options including boiled eggs, different cakes, pastries and breads, different granolas, fruit, pancakes, yogurts, etc! You could also choose from different coffees/ teas to make yourself with the coffee machine, which was all included with breakfast. The staff were all friendly and helpful and the service was great. We had no issues whatsoever, we would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here again!

To be said that we booked 2 rooms, one double and one single, in the last minute on 29/12/24 to celebrate New Year in Amsterdam. The double room ok, the single is not legal; basically a bunker where you do not even have where to put your suitcase and if you stay in the room awake for a few hours you lack air .. they sold us a single that does not fit into the legal canons of a single room! Smaller than 8 square meters provided for single rooms by law!! For the rest it is clean, but the cleaning room service for 3 days was not there, the bicycle service is not included and the bikes must be taken in a rent 6 min walk from the hotel!

Very nice hotel. Close to everything, many restaurants, cafes, and entertainment nearby. Close to tram stops for easy travel around the city. Room and bathroom were clean and modern, although very warm and stuffy. I took one star off as we booked a standard double room and based on how the rooms were advertised online, we expected the bed to be accessible from both sides. However, when we got to our room, one side of the bed was actually against the wall. I thought we may have been given an economy double by mistake but when I enquired at reception, I was told that our room was definitely a standard double. The receptionist contradicted himself saying that standard doubles had a bed accessible from both sides and only economy rooms had the bed against the wall and when I reiterated that our bed was against the wall, he just insisted that our room was a standard. Overall, still a very good stay and I would stay again but I wouldn’t waste the money paying extra for a standard double whenever you might just be given a room that looks like an economy anyway.

This is the most practical hotel I've ever been to, although the rooms aren't too big, everything is arranged so well in the room that the smaller room size isn't that of a disadvantage.
The hotel's interior designer did a wondaful work thinking on every last detail, everything is in order and serve its purpose even the 3 pictures on the room's wall are picked and placed in the same order to make a perfection.
The breakfast is well made and contain everything you need, fresh vegetables, cheese, hard boiled eggs, selections of breads etc..

Positive:
Our overall experience at this hotel was positive. The room was fantastic—cozy, clean, and regularly serviced. The warmth of the rooms added to the comfortable atmosphere, and we appreciated the attention to cleanliness. Although we didn't try the breakfast, the availability of vending machines for water and snacks was a convenient alternative.
Negative:
One notable downside was the noise level. The walls seemed thin, allowing corridor noise to filter into the room. Additionally, there were disturbances from a family with children on another floor. While we understand kids can be lively, the noise was quite disruptive. This led us to believe that there might be soundproofing issues with the rooms.
Despite the noise concerns, our overall stay was enjoyable, and the positive aspects outweighed the negatives. We recommend the hotel for its comfort and cleanliness, with the hope that noise insulation improvements can be made in the future.

We booked a 'Double Room' with the hope of getting a little more floor space compared to an 'Economy Double'. The room was really small with bearly enough space down the window wall to walk down. The room was very well equipped with lots of little extras, but we struggled with:-
1) Somewhere to put our case without it being in the way/walk way.
2) Sufficient space to sit and your shoes on. Such a small thing, but we really noticed this.
3) Small bathroom with some fittings like towel rails in awkward positions.
Some of the furniture in the room was simply aesthetic, very pretty, and Instagramable but I would prefer the space rather than clutter. (Velvet chair and round glass ornate table)
The produce on the breakfast was good quality, but it was the same each day, and I felt a little overpriced.
I don't think we would recommend for more than 3 nights as the space just wouldn't work for us.
Very clean quirky hotel in a great location if you can deal with small, compact areas.

I had a great two night stay at the ED, this is a brilliant little hotel, in a great location with really nice staff.
Firstly, yes the rooms are small. But it's an old building, however the rooms are designed well, a nice big comfortable bed, great ensuite and it's been fitted out to a good standard. The reception and bar area are also really nice, very cool space and comfortable. Additionally a coffee maker, kettle, safe box and a fridge are a bonus I think as not many hotels at this price range in Amsterdam even offer this.
I don't normally enjoy self check-in but the system used here was so easy and took just a minute or two to check in and get my room key.
My only negative was the Air Conditioning only went down to 19 degrees C, I'd prefer it a bit cooler but thats being super picky.
I've stayed in a few hotels in Amsterdam around the price point, similar or same area and this is the best I've visited. I will be back.

Stayed at the ed hotel for NYE, the bed was so comfy it was like sleeping on the clouds!
Rooms are small but not a major issue. Shower was lovely, bathroom very nice.
24/7 snacks and anything you may need available to purchase at reception, didn’t try breakfast but drinks machine made lovely drinks, not just cheap coffee!
Bar was handy, nice to have a drink after walking the streets of Amsterdam.
Staff all very friendly, helpful and polite.
A little way away from the centre ( dam square/redlight) but trams available and not a bad walk either.

Hi Sophie, the best way to find out is to check the website government.nl . This is the website from our government which has the most actual information. The rules changes a lot so this would be the best option to check.
