This is a fantastic hotel in the middle of the city, 10 minutes walk from the train station which goes to and from the airport. The rooms were very clean and en-suite with plenty of space. A nice warm room with towels and TV not that you'll need it. The rooms are very secure with card monitors for each room...

Used this hotel over the weekend, has very good location in Amsterdam. We were in the central part of the city, The staff where very very helpful which is always a bonus. Breakfest was good but very European. Shower and bathroom where clean. Down side is the stairs are a nightmare to get up to your room and walked past...

Our room was clean and comfortable with everything you need but nothing you don't, like shower gel?! Our room overlooked the street and it was quite noisy in the evenings. I was glad we were there in the autumn so we could keep our window closed at night. As there is no air conditioning, just a fan, I think I...

Hotel just off Dam Square, five minute walk from Central Station. Small family run hotel, over three very steep floors (the usual in Holland), not suitable for anyone with a disability as no lift. Staff very helpful and friendly, good breakfast. Hotel on a busy street, with shops, pubs and restraunts, so if you require a quiter room ask for...

Great girls weekend. The location was fantastic although it is quite noisy all night so you will need earplugs! Staff were really friendly, they made a mistake with my booking taking payment from the wrong card but this was quickly rectified and we were provided with complimentary drinks for the error. The breakfasts was lovely and the kitchen was even...

I had booked this hotel with the knowledge that it was close to Dam Square and so likely would be noisy but expected the noise to come from the street - not from within the hotel. The walls are very thin and you could hear everything from the hallway or other rooms. We did have a room with a window...

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. We are located in the center of the oldest part of Amsterdam which is a Unesco World Heritage site because of the thousands of contiguous buildings built prior to the 19th Century. Although Amsterdam is famous for the architecture of tall narrow buildings it does indeed have an impact on...

Staying here was among my worst hotel experiences ever. The rooms have been recently renovated so they are not too run down, but it's so recently that they were still working on the stairs and they started construction at 8:15a every morning I stayed there. I was there in the summer, of course there is no air conditioner, and you...

Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed review. Of course it goes without saying that occasionally every hotel, where ever it may be located, has the misfortune of being booked by rude and/or loud guests. The guests that you are referring to stayed only one night but were definitely a bother and have been put on...

The accommodations are small, but clean and comfortable. Very European. Damstraat is a busy street day or night, being located just off Dam Square at the edge of the Red Light District. If you have a thick skin for noisy night life, this can be an excellent place to stay; if not, you'll prefer something a little farther out from...

The room was clean, modern and well decorated! Breakfast was basic but good for the price to value spectrum as it was included in the booking. My only concern (and the reason I gave this hotel 3 out of 5 stars) is that I was in the shower and the cleaner walked in on me whilst I was in the...

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. We are very happy to hear that you found your room clean, modern and well decorated and that the breakfast was good. How unfortunate that the housekeeper was unable to ascertain that anyone was in the room prior to entering for the daily cleaning. Each of our rooms has a...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
