I booked a very nice room and the price was low (80euros) so it seemed like a bargain. When my friend and i showed up we got a room that was totally NOT the same. It was very very small (10m2) with barely space to put a suitcase between the bed and the wall! We complained that it was not...

When you first come in the hotel it is all nice, nice room decoration, friendly staff... It is when it comes to details that this place isn't worth your money. First the 12,5 € breakfast is terrible, little to choose from in a tiny self service room and nothing tasty enough. Second, our room was totally not isolated from the...

This hotel had a great location very close to transport links to the centre of Amsterdam. The area itself is also lovely with some great coffee shops and restaurants. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the rooms were very clean. The hotel is good value and the rooms we had were very nice indeed with comfortable beds and...

If you're a bit OCD then you'll hate this place; it's a bit rough round the edges but for what we paid it was well worth it - great location a little out of the centre, with one bus to and from the airport regularly and one tram to and from town - couldn't have asked for better! Staff were...

You would think that a 4 star rated hotel would have a bar fridge in every guest room. Guess what, not in this hotel. Carpets are a bit bare and it could do with some TLC but the beds are comfortable and it is very handy to the city area.

Stayed here for 2 nights. Pictures online are quite deceiving of what you actually get. The room was an average size and was clean. The furniture was quite old as was the carpet which had a very musty old smell in it in our room and along the first floor. The bathroom was recently renovated and looked lovely but the...

I should have done more researching before staying here, my husband booked it as a mini honeymoon. After seeing a few of the professional pictures for " The Alfred Hotel" I thought it looked OK. What we didn't realise was it used to be called the Memphis EMB. My husband told the staff prior to our trip that it was...

Wonderfully friendly and most helpful staff, clean hotel in the south of the city. Nice area for up market cafes and restaurants. Our family room was spacious, beds incredibly comfortable, ask for an extra pillow. Most definitely recommend and use again. Thank you Alfred for a great stay.

I booked this hotel with last minute under the name 'The Alfred Hotel' which my friend said had good reviews, when I tried searching for reviews after booking I couldn't find any and soon found that the 'Alfred Hotel' was actually Memphis Hotel which would have been very confusing for someone who had not done their research as no one...

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
