One of Amsterdam’s oldest and finest 5-star hotels, Tivoli Doelen Amsterdam Hotel was recently renovated in 2015. During the past three centuries, Empress Elisabeth of Austria and the Beatles have taken rooms here. Located in the heart of the city, the hotel is close to Dam Square, the Anne Frank House, canal boats, the Heineken Brewery and the Van Gogh Museum. It is also only a short walk to the shopping district, bars and restaurants. The 81 refurbished rooms are designed in classical tones with red and gold accents. They let in natural light through large windows and many look out over the Amstel river. For guests’ comfort, there are premium mattresses, pillow menus, rain-effect showers and Nespresso machines in each room. Fresh breakfast is served daily, featuring a large spread that includes local specialty dishes, gluten-free options and dishes made-to-order. If you prefer to stay in, you may also use the 24-hour room service. The hotel has free Wi-Fi and beautiful summer terrace.

This was my first time staying at the NH Doelen with my boyfriend, having stayed at the NH Krasnapolsky in the past. However, our stay here was absolutely outstanding. It is a small hotel, but this makes it all the more special, with staff being extremely friendly and welcoming from the minute you arrive. Our room looked out over the canal which gave us an unrivalled view of the fireworks on New Year's Eve. Location is perfect as you can quite literally reach all the attractions you would want to see within a 30 minute walk maximum. With that being said, this hotel is close to Dam Square, the tulip market etc. to name but a few. The room itself was simplistic but still stunning, and the shower was amazing. I don't think it's a question of if we would stay here again, it's when. Simply excellent.

Me and my fiance stayed in this hotel from Wednesday 8th Jan - Saturday 11th (3 nights) and just wow, it was simply amazing. One of the best 5* hotels I've stayed in, the staff are so lovely and go above and beyond to help, they're very accomodating and friendly and are always there if you need anything.
Our room was upgraded to a superior canal view and it was breathtaking, the view was lovely, they also had heart balloons and petals on arrival as well as chocolates, nothing goes unmissed here.
The hotel it self is around 10 minutes from red light district and 15 mins walk to centraal station, it is a lovely location.
If you are thinking at staying at this hotel don't even question it, as you can see by all the reviews it is one of the most amazing hotels.
Thanks again to all the staff at Doelen! Simply amazing!

Fantastic location all with 20-30 mins walk to major museums and art galleries.
Warm friendly welcome from moment of walking into hotel and all staff made time to said hello and chit chat whenever you past by.
Amber at reception was amazingly friendly and recommended few places to eat and visit during our stay. Some recommendations were good and some awful but she showed great enthusiasm and genuine interest during our stay.
Doormen (both of them - sorry I forgot their names) were very friendly and helpful with chatting and giving us the history of the hotel and how to get around Amsterdam.
Rooms are bit tight especially of you are travelling with lots of luggage, but very clean and well laid out. We had a Deluxe room with canal view and balcony which offered us amazing view of the New Years fireworks and the city centre.
Would highly recommend this hotel and we will definitely stay here again whilst in Amsterdam.

Love the bed and pillow, I had really good sleep there. Any chance to knows what the pillow brand is? Staff are really helpful, enthusiastic and glad to provide help. Free still and sparking water are provided in the lobby in the day time.

My wife and I have just returned to the UK after a short three night stay in Amsterdam at the Doelen.
This hotel was ideally placed for a short break as it is incredibly accessible to all of central Amsterdam.
We had a room facing the canal and it was excellent. Decent bed, fab shower and everything that you need although (and this is my only criticism) really quite small with a tiny shower room and not really enough space to spend more than a couple of days in.
On the very plus was a superb, high quality breakfast with freshly squeezed orange juice and a chef on standby to knock up eggs any which way that you like them.
The major plus were truly excellent staff who were to a person, polite efficient and helpful.
I was slightly shocked on check out to get a bill for about £50 as a tourist tax but that is obviously nothing to do with the hotel.
All in all, an excellent place to stay although if we did visit again I would want a slightly larger room.

This is a fine hotel with lots of style and heritage. Every staff member we encountered was excellent. All were friendly, professional and really made you feel valued as a customer. The lobby manager was particularly welcoming, even arranging at short notice a fine table on a nearby restaurant with great views over the canal. A slighltly lower price would make this a must for stays in the centre of Amsterdam

On the plus side: the staff are fabulous. They’re friendly, very helpful, informed and generous with their time. The hotel is in a great location as it’s close to a metro and within walking distance of just about any place you’d like to be. Granted it could be 25 min walk but it’s fun. The rooms are very comfortable - great bed, good linen, well serviced and nicely decorated. And the breakfast is excellent: there’s a wonderful selection and everything is fresh and delicious.

Here are the negatives: the hotel is flanked by a canal on the 1 side and a narrow street on the other. At this time both sides are very noisy. There is construction in a building opposite so it’s bad during the day on the street side and drunk groups keep you up most nights if your room is on the canal side. It’s most unfortunate. I slept with ear plugs and a white noise machine and could still the shouts/ laughter often until 4am.

There are small signs that the hotel needs maintenance: the leather-like chair in our room was badly scratched and the carpet had small stains. We had 1 meal in the evening and that was poor- not anything like the breakfasts we enjoyed every day.

We loved the Tivoli Doelen for the beauty of the hotel, the delicious breakfast, and the wonderful location. However, there is a significant noise issue on the street side of the hotel. It's not a minor issue- for us, it almost ruined our vacation. Fortunately, the hotel staff worked with us and moved our room, but we did have a couple of sleepless nights. I wish I had be aware of this before booking my stay- I would definitely stay at this hotel again for all of the reasons listed above, but I would want to make sure that I had a quiet room. Also, make sure that you request luggage racks to set up your luggage- they are not in the room. Finally, if you book a Superior room, you may want to make sure that you are given one that has the sink in the bathroom, not outside of it. The staff at the hotel were overall very genuine and caring, although we had a challenging beginning to our stay.

Our nightly room rates ranged from 500 to 674 Euros per night, before city taxes. For that we received a dysfunctionally sized room on the 3rd floor; it was tapered by several feet from one end to the other. It was so narrow at one end that the lamp on the desk was in front of the TV! The bldg is worn and tired and while the canal provided a nice view, the external noise will keep you up at night. This was the fourth hotel we stayed at during our three week trip. While all the hotels weee rated 5 star, this was The singularly worst! The hotel appears to have significant labor issues as they are employing contract workers on a daily basis. The breakfast was lacking in variety, presentation and taste. We were not the only guests to experience difficulty ordering an omelette in the AM. The rain shower was clogged and not enough room to reasonably place the trash receptacle in the bathroom. Afternoon tea in the bar area seemed to tax the staff?? My recommendation would be to avoid this hotel until they update the rooms, fix their staffing issues and determine to provide a 5 Star experience for the price they are charging for their rooms!!

"Watch the minibar. Get a printed receipt (I’m still trying to get one that was supposed to be emailed). Very hard beds, at least in room 306"
