Ended up at the Anco hotel after originally booking a hostel and not liking the look of it. The Anco was great for us as a gay couple. The staff were so friendly and helpful. They were knowledgable about the local area and able to recommend some great bars and places to eat. Would recommend. There were also a couple...

The hotel is located directly in Red Light Disctrict. So around are all the coffeshops, bars, etc. So the busy and "living" area. Anco Hotel is a gay hotel, but hetero guests are welcome as well. We had studio room with own bathroom. The other rooms are sharing bathroom on the corridor. Our room was very nice and clean. The...

Stayed five nights in this hotel that is centrally located in Amsterdam, within walking distance to Central Station and many of the key sights. The room was clean as were the shared bathroom and shower. The continental breakfast was quite good. Yes, it is noisy, but that obviously is a function of the hotel's location and not an issue with...

The location is perfect. you are set right in the middle of the city so getting around is easy. The room i stayed in had a view of the canal but necessarily did not come as a joyous experience because of all the noises but still at least they had a view. Price is affordable and the rooms are nice....

Cons: Shared bathroom, can get noisy (but hey its Amsterdam), room was a little dusty but for the most part pretty clean. This place was the first stop on our 8 week Euro-Trip. Very cute and charming hotel, in the middle of Amsterdam (you can easily walk to the central station). The staff was really nice and helpful. We (3 girls) stayed there 4 nights, affordable prices and although the shower was shared, it was very clean. Breakfast was nice too :)

if you just want a place to rest to explore the centre of Amsterdam, then this is ok. The service is ok, the rooms are ok, the price is ok. I looked around for other acco in the same area, and it all seems to be of that standard. The owner looked tired of his own establishment, and for the...

The Anco hotel is right in the middle of everything, in the heart of the red light district. The staff is very helpful and friendly, they will give you the 411 on all that you can do and where to go. The hotel itself is secure and clean. My room was a single private room with shared bath, it was...

Good value in a clean and well maintained budget hotel near Central Station in the Red Light district. Showers and toilets are shared for most of the rooms, but rooms have individual sinks. Front rooms have charming views over the canal to the Oude Kirk; other rooms lack a view, but are quiet. The rooms that are accessible by stairs...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
