The room we had was overlooking the canal a nice clean room, beds were really comfortable. Shared facilities which wasn't a problem, as we only booked for 2 nights It was noisy at night, but that what you expect in a city center hotel Breakfast was only continental but adequate, would stay here again

Great place with great staff. I had a very nice 2 night stay at Anco Hotel. The owners both Carl & Joseph are adorable, as well as their staff. A familiar atmosphere at all times, makes you fell very welcome. The single room was what expected for a 2 night stay. I can get noisy at times, but I had... More

Very helpful owners! We loved having BBC on the tv too. Beautiful modern bath in the studio. Comfortable bed. Breakfast included in the price. As Americans we were over the top that there was an ice tray in the freezer to make ice for our drinks.

This is a nice little place to stay in Amsterdam. The owners, Carl & Joseph, make you feel like you are a part of an extended family. The place is gay friendly. Extermely clean. Shared bathroom & shower on 2nd & 3rd floor was always emaculate. These are only available for 1 person at a time. Staff is EXTREMELY nice... More

This was a small hotel hidden in the red light district of Amsterdam. I thoroughly enjoy the stay there. Owners are very accommodating and suite was large and beautifully decorated. Would stay again next time I'm here in Amsterdam!

Excellent location right in the heart of Amsterdam's Red Light District so you're breathing the atmosphere & staff were friendly. May I add this is the only European Hotel to take my luggage to my room. However... Upon arriving in the evening on a 25 Degree Day the room has been provided with a fan to draw outside air into... This was a fantastic stay. It is a smoke friendly hotel, with excellent, amazingly friendly staff. You get a sense that everyone who works there is happy, and they cannot do enough for you! I see why it was 2016 travellers choice in 2016, and will definitely stay here again. It was both my brothers' first time in Amsterdam, and... More

Clean rooms, comfortable beds and a European breakfast included. Can be a little noisy due to the central court yard and no air conditioning. Only one room includes a bathroom, the rest share one on the floor or above or below it. Extremely friendly staff, and location could not be more central.

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
