The hotel is an impressive old building, nicely renovated in its old style, and the location at the Amstel River is fabulous. The service is very very good, everyone we met was helpful, friendly and professional. I did not have a chance to review the gym but have little doubt it is a nice place. The breakfast is very complete....

In my professional life I had the pleasure of being a guest at the Amstel a couple of times, now coming back after more than 22 years felt soooo amazingly good. When we approached the front entrance, two staff members hurried down the steps to take our luggage from our hands so that we could check in without having to...

The Amstel is one of Amsterdam's older hotels that has recently been refurbished whilst still retaining it's old charms. It is just 3 stops on the Metro from Central Station and has a lovely situation right next to the river. We had a wonderful room, with a river view and one of the most comfortable beds we have had for...

The hotel was beautiful! The staff was attentive, friendly and very helpful. Would highly recommend and will add to the places I would love to return! The concierge helped us arrange a beautiful, private boat tour complete with champagne and cocktails as well as a driver who took us on a tour of attractions outside the city limits! Thank you...

An architectural gem, with history which is elegant, stylish and spacious in a perfect location. Rooms are well appointed and comfortable, many with views of the Amstel River. The concierge desk offers excellent advice and ticket purchases to major attractions such as the Rijksmuseum which can save considerable time at the entry. The river level restaurant La Rive is well...

The Amstel Hotel, unlike an average hotel, has no counter, but we sat with a staffer at a desk who offered us some prosecco, and personally took us to an ungraded suite, and our bags followed. Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
