I do not have one bad thing to say about this hotel. The rooms were lovely; service was exceptional; good facilities (spa, exercise, etc.) and great food. Best of all was the hotel's central location in the city. Expensive, but worth it.

Recently stayed twice at this hotel. Excellent location wonderful staff big rooms with canal views and, of course, Sofitel beds and pillows. The Consierge service is second to none. One little problem is with the Flying Dutchman Bar. I understand that minors are permitted in bars under Dutch law. Notwithstanding, I think it absurd that in such a small bar...

perfect location, very well restored, superior interior design, very nice room, attentive service, everything new, clean, well designed and coordinated. so why only 2 stars ? for very objective reasons: a) the blanket on your bed is extremely thick, very warm, too warm.. and there is no alternative b) how can you call "international" a hotel which has no bidet...

Stayed over Easter long weekend for my bachelorette party, we chose the Sofitel because the location was very central. The entrance and lobby are magnificent, the service was impecable and the concierges made great recommendations for restaurants and nightlife. I did not get the opportunity to spend time on the terrace but it was gorgeous. The rooms were a tad...

It is so grand outside but interior is ok not that grand. Service is great as expected for 5 star hotel. But for room, it is a bit too small and too standard for its price, however, I understand that Amsterdam land price is very expensive, but still, felt overpriced. Overall experience was great and happy with my stay.

we stayed 3 nights in Amsterdam for private and business reasons, normally we booked the Hilton Resort, but it is far away from the center, this time we looked for a nice hotel in the Center area. We found the Sofitel, we never gave them a chance before. Our mistake.... It starts when we arrived, surprisingly we were picked as...

This is a great hotel. Rooms are well kept and the general standards throughout are what you would expect given that this hotel is not cheap! Drinks a little on the expensive side but you have enough options close by. You could not want a better position as its right in the centre of Amsterdam. I have stayed in this...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
