Mauro Mansion is just steps from the Centraal Station and a good starting place to explore Amsterdam. There are lots of bars and restaurants nearby with outdoor seating for lounging and people watching. The hotel is fun because of it's age and character. Comfortable but not posh. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They have cheap snacks and drinks...

We stayed at Mauro for three nights and it was fantastic! Friendly staff when we got there who made us feel at home straight away. He gave us a map and answered any questions we had :) There was a free mini bar in the room and on Valentines they left us some lovely dutch chocolates and rose petals on...

We were very excited to stay at Mauro Mansion based on Tripadvisor. Funky, trendy, really cool hotel based on the reviews. While some of it is true, it is not a 5* option. It is truly average. Pros: 1) Location is excellent. Near Amsterdam Centraal and on a side street that didn't get too much noise. Wouldn't change a thing...

We very much enjoyed our stay in room 11 at Mauro Mansion. The location was awesome, right off a canal and close to a square with pubs and a market with souvenirs. It's a short walk to the busy streets of the red light district but far enough away to not be bothered by the action. The staff was very...

My wife and I stayed here on vacation and we were not disappointed. From the beer and wine they left for us in our room to cleanliness of everything we loved our experience. The staff is very helpful and friendly! The location, right next to central station, is fantastic for anyone who wants to see what Netherlands has to offer....

There's not much you can add to previous reviews, this hotel is in exactly the right location,so close to transport links and the city centre but turn the corner and it's like being in another world. Right by the canal, so quiet and peaceful, superbly fitted out rooms, super comfortable beds, maintained and looked after by the owners so nothing is too much trouble....

We booked this as it was very well rated on Tripadvisor. The hotel was convenient and clean; very easily accessible from Amsterdam Central train station. It was also very close to the red light district but hotel felt safe as we needed our room key to open the front door. We had large luggages by the end of our Europe...

Very clean and well placed to see the attractions of Amsterdam. Staff very friendly and helpful. Did not have breakfast but from what I see was a basic cereal, cold meats selection. Only draw back I can comment on is the two rooms 11 and 12 immediately by the front door. With people coming and going you can get disturbed....

Just come back from staying here two nights. The hotel is situated a short walk from all transport links and the main attractions, but just outside enough to avoid all the noise in the centre. Quirky rooms which had an extra touch compared to main chain hotels ( complimentary drinks & snacks in bar) Rooms have everything you need and...

We stayed at Mauro Mansion for 3 days and loved it. The owners are great, they made a wonderful breakfast... don't miss the pancakes!! We had Room 12 which we loved... no noise from the outside. They work on an Honors system which is really nice these days. Location is just perfect. We'll go back there anytime we visit Amsterdam!

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
