The hotel is around a 25 or so minute walk to the Central Station as well as an adjacent business/shopping/restaurant area near the station. Central Station is the transportation hub and has a two level shopping mall attached with everything that you can think of.
There is a bus stop right in front of the hotel that cuts the trip down to 10 minutes and provides easy access to the tram system.
A front desk staff person was very helpful in providing details as how to pay and transfer for the public transportation system.
When we arrived from the airport we were happy to hear that our room was available as we were tired from our international flight.
The hotel is a relatively new building by Amsterdam standards perhaps 7 years old. The lobby and restaurant/lounge areas are impressive as are the rooms.
Our room had a very modern appearance and the room itself was spotless and well appointed and we had a great view of the river from our room.
The complimentary breakfast was very good and typical of an upscale hotel in Europe. Our dinner in the restaurant was also very good and reasonably priced which was a welcome surprise. The menu contained many international and classic dining options.
The only other restaurant nearby is an upscale Italian bistro a few blocks away and we heard that it was very good as well.
All of the hotel staff to include the front desk, restaurant staff and housekeeping staff were very friendly and professional and provided a welcoming environment.
If we ever travel to Amsterdam again the Hotel Jakarta will be our choice.
The hotel is about a 30 minute walk from Amsterdam Centraal, but only a short taxi/uber journey away. There is also a tram around the corner. The fact that it is not slap bang in the centre means a peaceful night's sleep in their wonderful rooms. The staff are very friendly and will arrange taxis or direct you to the appropriate public transport. Further, there are ample parking spaces for vehicles.
The rooms are stunning with modern design and fittings. The bed was most comfortable and the coffee in the room was lush. They have an ironing board in each room (hidden inside a full length mirror) which is great for business travellers.
The restaurant and bar overlook the IJ, which is aesthetically pleasing. The food in the restaurant is Indonesian themed and is certainly close to being the most authentic food I have tried in Europe. Breakfast is standard European and English fare which was very good.
The conference facilities were well equipped and this is ideal for business travellers. However, there were also a lot of tourists present and the hotel has a nice swimming pool, overlooking the IJ.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.
- Let’s start with a room without privacy. Got a second floor room with the “ugly side” views. Definetly these shall have reduced prices. View is hideous and there are no light curtains to give you privacy, just the blockout curtain making the room extra dark. People smoking in the building in front of the hotel, 20 meters away your window, looking to you and your room. Zero privacy feeling, very intrusive.
- On early arrival no info was given on which facilities could I use from the hotel, areas for working available, etc. A bit deceptive on attention to be honest.
- They take an extra deposit on top of what you pay “for the expenses you do”. I can pay my expenses on the moment when I order something. Crazy policy that I’ve never had in hotels before.
- They don’t clean the rooms for the planet. They plant a tree. With the price paid, I expect my room being cleaned and trash removed every day. I accepted the policy but said please come and remove garbage. I put the sign for the cleaners when leaving. They entered the room to leave me a note of “you have chosen the eco option, we are not doing your room”. The garbage stayed there full of stuff. So they entered the room and left the message but they couldn’t take the trash out? Crazy.
- You hear every noise from other rooms. Specially heavy wooden doors opening and closing. Not nice to wake up from that at 3am.
- Wellness area only opens at 7am. Gym shall be open 24/7.
- Lack of amenities and the ones provided are very basic/don’t feel like good quality. For example, there is shower gel but no hand soap. Fake nespresso machine, etc. The only nice detail were the water in the mini fridge and bath robes.
- Bad quality WiFi in the rooms. Several pages did not work. Many ups and downs in connection.
- Just one elevator working on the main reception area. Waiting times long, and the stairs are incredibly steep and dangerous, impossible to use for people with mobility difficulties. 2 people can’t use the stairs and the time.
- Lack of vegan options on breakfast (no vegan yoghurt or protein).
We stayed for a few days as part of our honeymoon and the staff kindly left us a lovely note and a complimentary bottle of champagne to help us celebrate, which we really appreciated.
The room was spacious, beautiful, and had everything we needed. The view over the river made it even better. We liked the addition of the filtered water tap that was available near reception, every hotel should have this.
The location is pretty good, there is a bus almost immediately outside and a tram stop across the bridge (<5min walk) which will get you to Amsterdam Centraal easily, and from there you can get anywhere in Amsterdam pretty easily.
Breakfast is excellent with a lot of choice, and the restaurant is also great. Would highly recommend visiting the bar on level 8 (from memory!) which has great cocktails and a stunning view over the river and Amsterdam.
Like other reviews, the rooms are simple but luxurious at the same time, and definitely get a balcony room overlooking the river towards Centraal station- views are great and what a sight it is when the massive cruise shis come in to dock!
We love staying here due to the feel of the hotel and love the indoor trees, feel energised after a long day in the office!
Pool and gym also great, I agree it can feel a little small, and was busy over the weekend compared to week days.
Unfortunately, I can't give 5/5 this time as the pool was a bit dirty over the weekend and we couldn't get anything to eat at the hotel after a delayed flight meant we didn't get there until 10.-10.30pm.
I also asked for some oat milk, so at least I couldl have a cup of tea, but reception wanted to charge me for room service, which I thought was unreasonable as we couldn't order any food and I have a diary intolerance, so wouldn't be able to use the creamer in the room. I also asked if we could have another water bottle, but again they wanted to charge for this. I wasn't aware of this previously because I've only stayed on my own, so 1 water bottle was enough, but when you have 2 adults and 1 child staying in a room, couldn't you supply 2 water bottles?
Overall, still had a fantastic stay and would recommend this hotel :)
Luxurious setting with tropical garden in the center, large and comfortable rooms, even with a nice terrace; there is also a low pillow.
Full breakfast of every variety, excellent quality and there is also the kitchen available for any requests.
The location is only 10 minutes in all from Amsterdam station, which is the nerve center, you get there with 5 min walk and then take tram 26 for 2 stops for another 5 minutes; for us it was worth it, to have all these services, especially the pool; the center is very chaotic.
Very friendly staff, they also sell public transport tickets and especially there is underground parking (for a fee) , which is essential in Amsterdam!!

Outstanding Customer Service
The front desk staff went above and beyond to make our stay seamless and enjoyable. They were incredibly helpful and accommodating, from storing our bags before check-in to giving us great recommendations for ATMs and places to explore in Amsterdam.
One of the best customer service moments happened when we had an early morning excursion and didn’t have time for the included breakfast. The staff thoughtfully packed us a delicious to-go breakfast bag, which was waiting for us at the front desk before our tour pickup. It included snacks, fruit, water, apple juice, and the most delicious loaf cake—a small but huge gesture of hospitality that made a big difference for us. Special THANK YOU to the staff member who handled that for us 🙏🏾🤍.
Breathtaking Hotel Design & Ambiance
The moment you step inside, the lush greenery and plant-filled spaces create a peaceful, calming atmosphere. The combination of modern architecture with natural elements makes the entire hotel feel like a serene urban jungle retreat.
🌿 Live plants and trees throughout the lobby and restaurant spaces
🌿 Terrariums with enclosed jar plants on breakfast tables
🌿 A relaxing, eco-friendly vibe that enhances the overall experience
Our room had an incredible view overlooking the bay area and canals of Amsterdam, making our mornings and evenings truly picturesque.
Fantastic Breakfast & Dining Experience
The included breakfast was one of our favorite parts of the stay! Everything was fresh, diverse, and well-prepared, offering something for everyone. Some highlights:
🍳 Eggs Benedict, hash browns, mini waffles, and pancakes
🥐 A variety of pastries and fresh salad
☕ Four to five self-serve coffee machines for fresh espressos and cappuccinos (which I took full advantage of!)
Having breakfast in a space filled with beautiful plants and greenery made it an even more enjoyable experience.
A Few Notes on Room Design
While the room was modern and well-appointed, the shower setup is something to consider. The shower/bathroom area is separated by a sliding door, and if you’re sharing a twin room with someone who isn’t a significant other, it could be a bit tricky since there’s less privacy with this design if someone is showering. However, this did not take away from our amazing experience—just something to be aware of and coordinate around like we did.
Final Thoughts – Highly Recommended!
This hotel is a hidden gem in Amsterdam—beautiful, peaceful, eco-friendly, and affordable for the quality of service and amenities offered. The thoughtful customer service, the stunning greenery-filled design, and the fantastic breakfast and dining options made our stay truly memorable.
If you’re visiting Amsterdam, Hotel Jakarta is a must-stay! We would absolutely stay here again. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The landscape inside the hotel truly transports you to Indonesia; our room was beautiful, spacious, modern, clean and had an open-space shower with views of the river. Very comfortable bed with beautiful views and a strong shower.
The bakery and the rooftop bar are definitely worth visiting! The breakfast buffet is so fresh and has a wide variety of food.
Pool and gym might be a little small for a 200-key hotel, but with beautiful views and well maintained.
The staff of this hotel are super friendly! The front desk and food and beverage staff really go out of their way to make you feel special and well taken care of! I loved the gesture of a glass of cold prosecco upon arrival given by Ward and he even went looking for us to give us the key to our room once it was ready. He also answered all our questions in a very friendly and genuine way when checking us in.
Dana at the breakfast buffet was super friendly to every guest that would come in, making our morning special and making us smile. Timo was also super friendly—the flying Dutchman! He was everywhere, from checking in and out people at the front desk to cleaning tables at the breakfast buffet.
Congrats to the GM Frank and the whole team of Hotel Jakarta! I would definitely come back!
First, the staff. Exceptionally friendly and caring staff, all from the front desk, restaurants and bars and wellness, adding the extra touch of personal contact.
Location: Located on the "Java Island" places the hotel within walking distance from the city center and the Contral Station, but yet in a quite location away from the noisy nightlife. The hotel is very well connected with bus #43 that stops just outside. Next, architecture and design: Stunning from outside but unique on the inside. The energy neutral BREEM accredited building has excellent ambiance, air quality and acoustics. Restaurants & bars: Breakfast had wide variety and good quality food and drinks, not the best I've been to but certainly good enough. Despite completely full hotel due to the Kings day celebration, enough food selection and seats available. It was also niche to have a fresh bread and freshly squeezed smoothy upon arrival at the bakery on 1st floor. A dinner at the Cafe Jakarta was a tasty selection of Indonesian cusine, nicely paired with the house Cabernet Savignion. We ended both nights at the 8th floor bar that has a great nightview of the city and some interesting coctail. "I can make all coctails" the bartender confidently claimed and I believe him! The bedroom was spacious with an easily accessible walk-in shower, large TV modern screen, comfortable bed and balcony, giving us excellent sleep. Finally, the gym and the wellness area were very clean and comfortable, not large but just adequate in size, for excellent recovery after strolling the city. The sauna area was not too crowdy, making the dutch etiquettes a little but easier. Overall, I don't think the Jakarta Amsterdam is far from the 5th star as a hotel - perhaps the aim is just to be the best 4* hotel in Amsterdam. We will definetly be back!
