A stone’s throw from the River Limmat, Zurich’s old town and the city’s top shopping streets, Ruby Mimi is a great starting point for first-time visitors and old friends. It’s also just a few minutes’ walk from the main station. For window-shoppers or shop-til-you-droppers, Bahnhofstrasse is the place to be. Flanked by high street names and designer labels, there’s something for every budget and style. For history-lovers, a short stroll south along the river will take you to the cobbled streets and quaint old buildings of the Altstadt. As well as lots of photo ops, you’ll find excellent restaurants and cosy coffee shops to keep your energy up. For a slightly boozy, sugary taste of Switzerland, an indulgent slice of zuger kirschtorte should hit the spot. If it’s the outdoors you’re after, Zurich also delivers. The lake is a 15-minute walk from Mimi, or a short hop on the tram. Otherwise, head for the hills with a hike up nearby Uetliberg. (There’s also a train, if that sounds like hard work.) Zurich’s main station is a five-minute walk from Mimi’s front door, from where the airport’s just ten minutes by train or S-Bahn.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.

Ruby Mimi Zurich has garnered compliments for its stylish and trendy atmosphere, with a rock 'n' roll theme that resonates with guests. While its cleanliness and prime location near key attractions are consistently praised, guests have called out the hotel for its compact rooms and the occasional slow service.
The value proposition has been a point of contention, as some guests feel the costs are high relative to the amenities provided. Nonetheless, unique amenities like a cinema and electric guitar rental add a distinctive touch to the guest experience.

Our accomodation was booked by a travel agent and I read every review before staying and was so worried we would be in a shoe box but were pleasantly surprised. The room we had was perfect, staff friendly and proximity to the HB was a very short walk. We had 40 hours of flights/delays before arriving and felt so refreshed after the amazing shower and beautiful scented products to use. We really cannot fault the Ruby Mimi.

Pros: Unbeatable location that everything is basically within walkable distance from the hotel - Shopping malls, supermarkets, restaurant and most importantly the ZÜRICH HB Main station.
Cons: On the flip side, everything is quite self-serviced here that they don’t even have a telephone in your room i.e. You need to go downstairs to find the staff yourselves every time you need help. We asked for an extra pillow in particular just to find out that we are supposed to carry our own pillow all the way from the reception to our room. Water kettle and dental kits are not offered here. Overall not a family oriented or kid friendly one but okay for couple for a short stay given the location.
Cons: We asked for a room for river view but indeed the “view” is blocked by the building in front of us that you basically see the river only from the corner / sided view.
BIG CONS: The checkin experience was an UNPLEASANT one. One of the staff at the reception / bar area was extremely rude when handling our check-in procedures. She first started by stating that our special note/ room preference (higher floor) was not sent to them by our travel agent, which was not the main issue but how she immediately came to conclusion that “because most of the times these messages are in Chinese hence lost in translation”. As Hong Kong resident, we speak both English and Chinese as our official languages and reservations / special remarks were all done in English. We spent 9 days in Switzerland and stayed in 5 different hotels but Ruby Mimi was the only one who did not receive the notes from our booking agent (Agoda). All other bookings went fine and the hotels acknowledged our requests in written English. In contrast, there was another helpful staff Moritz who went above and beyond to accommodate our requests that we would like to express our gratitude here.

Hey Sunshine, thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts on your stay in Zurich. Good to hear that you appreciated the location of our hotel. Centrally located in the middle of the vibrant Zurich city life, Ruby Mimi is the ideal starting point for a tour of the city. Some of the points you mention though are things we're consciously doing differently from other hotels and many of our guests love staying with us for exactly that reason. We don't offer everything but rather, in our eyes, the right things. This means that we leave out unnecessary extras (like a minibar, water kettles or telephones in the rooms ), so we can focus on the things that are most important to us – like our delicious healthy breakfast, locally sourced snacks and drinks, high-quality furnishings, unique atmosphere and value for money. If you feel like a hot drink again next time, you'll find free drinks and a Maxi bar to buy other bits and bobs in our Galleys. Otherwise, pop downstairs to the bar for a drink or a bite to eat – it's open 24/7. We are also sorry to hear that our self check-in wasn't your cup of tea. As part of our Lean Luxury philosophy, we try to make things quicker and simpler with the help of technology, but there's usually always a friendly human around to help if you need it. We try our best to make sure guests are always greeted by our friendly team of hosts, so we're sorry if you didn't get the warm welcome you should have. We've passed your feedback on to the team at Ruby Mimi. Beyond that we always try to fulfil our guests' wishes, such as your wish for a river view, but unfortunately this is not always possible depending on the hotel's occupancy rate. Hopefully you'll give us another chance some time and we see you again soon. Your Ruby Mimi Team

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
It does look incredible in the photos and as many reviewers have noted it has a very cool art deco feel. Rooms are small but this is downtown Zurich where there is a huge premium on space. Its location close to the station and not far from the Lake is fantastic. That withstanding, it was disappointing and with their film evenings and their "quirkness" they are trying too hard. Better to go to the 25Hours Hotel if you want that.
I had a Wow room which was a long way from Wow. As others have noted, it is small for the money paid and the bathroom/shower layout is weird. You need to go through the mini toilet cubicle to get to the shower.
I had single occupancy in the room and thought it was very cheap that there was one pillow and one bath towel and one hand towel. I am not interested in Marshalls speaker - I would have just loved another bath towel. It looked and felt Holiday Inn.
My other main criticism is that I like a hot breakfast when travelling and except for boiled eggs there was nothing else on offer. Better to skip the breakfast here and go out.
Will not be staying again.

Hey Sunshine, Thank you for your detailed feedback on your recent stay at our Ruby Mimi. Our Lean Luxury philosophy is all about stripping away the unnecessary and concentrating on the essentials: a central location, characterful design and quality fixtures and fittings for first-class comfort with a touch of luxury. So we are delighted that you have enjoyed this part of our philosophy. We're sorry that the room didn't meet your expectations. For guests looking for more space, we recommend our LOFT and STAR rooms. As for the bathroom layout, our unique design features an open bathroom and an all-glass rain shower, optimising the use of space. To ensure that all guests can get an idea of the room design in advance, we always provide plenty of pictures of these special features on all booking portals. As for breakfast, unfortunately, it's difficult to keep hot food at its best on a buffet, and we're not fans of rubbery scrambled eggs. Instead, we serve a healthy continental selection and plenty of freshly brewed Italian barista coffee. It’s really important to us that you can relax and feel right at home in our hotels. Next time, don't be shy. Just talk to one of our hosts if you're missing something in your room, they're always happy to help. Should you reconsider, we'd love the opportunity to host you again and provide a more enjoyable stay. Your Ruby Mimi Team

We had a great one night stay at the Zurich Ruby Mimi. We came in from the train station and it was such an easy walk down the street to get to the hotel—it’s in a great location if you are coming by train! The hotel manager Mr. Markus Juan Perez Lieb and the operations manager Mr. Dela Akli were incredibly accommodating, helping us with rooms that fit our family with small children comfortably. They provided a children’s crib for our infant with a full sheet setup. There’s a complimentary bottle of water as well as a delicious chocolate bar in the room upon arrival which we were pleased to find. The bar downstairs has a great vibe with excellent cocktails. It was an easy and beautiful 10 minute walk across the river to the old town where we had a great dinner and then a relaxing walk back browsing in shops. We all had breakfast downstairs in the morning and there was a wonderful selection of healthy chia seed pudding, oatmeal, fresh fruit, and many toppings. My children loved the bread with a Nutella-like crunchy chocolate spread. A great location with very welcoming and personalized managers! Thank you, Ruby Mimi!

The reception, bar and breakfast area are very nicely decorated in Boutique hotel style, which reveals the former use of the building as a cinema, the rooms are very modern, bright, clean, functional and cozy. The personnel services are rather minimalist, but this did not bother us at all. The staff was always very friendly, helpful and a minor service problem was solved immediately and very well. Even the breakfast was not too debauched (no hot egg dishes etc.), but is completely sufficient for a good start to the day. Next time in Zurich we will definitely come back.

The staff and then the Manager Wettstein was unwilling to honor the complimentary breakfast offered to the others in my group, this due to my error in the way I booked. We were charged almost the identical room rate as were the others in our group.
To save a few Francs, the hotel alienated us and earned a lousy review.
Further, their 24 hr complimentary coffee is accurate but a bit misleading. One must go to floors 1-4 and make instant in a dark room without seating. In the restaurant there would be charge.

Hey Sunshine, Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We're sorry to hear that your experience with us did not meet your expectations, particularly with regard to the breakfast arrangement. Our records show that your booking was made individually, rather than using the designated group booking link, which would have included breakfast with your reservation. This was the reason for the slight discrepancy in your rate and whilst we understand that this was a disappointing surprise, we offered you the option of adding breakfast at a discounted rate which we hoped would resolve the situation. In our galleys, we offer complimentary coffee stations located on several floors. While we understand that coffee preferences can vary, we have designed these spaces to provide a relaxed, self-service experience. However, don't hesitate to visit our bar, which is also open around the clock, if you prefer a freshly brewed coffee from a barista. Our hosts will be happy to prepare your favourite coffee. We hope to have the opportunity to provide you with a seamless stay in the future. Your Ruby Mimi Team

We chose the hotel based on location which I can confirm is excellent!! Everything you need is located within walking distance. The hotels atmosphere and ambience was wonderful. Upon arrival we were treated to an upgrade by the friendly and welcoming hotel staff. We were also presented with the option to go green which meant passing up on house keeping for our short 2 night stay and in return we were given a free drink for from the very cool hotel bar. The room was squeaky clean, comfortable and also silent and incredibly dark at night which insured a perfect nights sleep after a day up mount titlis or discovering all the city had to offer.

This hotel lost many points for not even offering simple things like a spot to pull over in front of the hotel. Check in was painfully long, although the staff was friendly. As for the long and very narrow room with the weird shower and toilet setup, yicks. There where mere inches to walk past the bed, tilted sideways, otherwise your cheek would squeegee along the TV mounted there. The pillows where nice and fluffy. The bar was very nice, the hotel had an art deco vibe. The restaurant on the lower level was very expensive and the waiter had the nerve to tell us that he worked there, because if the tips, the way he worded it actually meant you have to tip him well/soliciting money. The tipping system in CH is very different from the US,do this was extremely tacky and unprofessional. He also conveniently forgot to give us the hotel guest discount TWICE! The front desk was pretty useless,I enquired about breakfast, general information. This caused a flurry of activity involving multiple staff members. At the end I was presented with a credit card reader that showed me a 52 swiss franken bill. I told them I never had breakfast and was just enquiring about the time it was served. There was also strife between the dining room manager and some servers. They where obviously scared of him.He had words with a few of them in the dining room.Very strange behavior. This was one if the worst hotels ever.

Amazing property! Super close to the HBF main train station, just a short walk (a couple of minutes), a nice property, big lobby before you go check in. It's all automated to fill out on the tablet (the staff is there to help if needed) and the machine would spit out your room key card. We got lucky to be upgraded to the LOFT room and it's super spacious, the exposed wood beams made it even cooler. The room is very clean, comfortable bed, nice soft sheets. The shower is powerful and has nice toiletries as well. It's a little odd to have to enter the show via the toilet room / water closet but we were a couple so didn't bother us. The sink with the dressing room mirror are nice. Not really a "closet" but the hangers and hooks are along the wall. The hotel has a cinema (we did go when the time it says the movie would play - Jurassic Park that day, but we didn't see anyone in there and movie wasn't player, maybe we read the sign wrong). Certain floor has the gallery for you to iron clothes, get coffee or tea. It's slightly inconvenient for some people, but we didn't really use the facility as only staying 1 night so again, it didn't bother us. The coffee isn't your normal coffee pod machine though, it's coffee powder packs and you have to use the scorching hot water from the sink for your tea and coffee. The water is SUPER HOT so be careful. We also have a lovely view of the river/lake, easy walk to old town. It's quiet and appreciated the upgrade. Would definitely stay here again! It's super clean, very hipster, staff is nice, you can store your luggage at the front desk, modern facility and great rate too.

The most basic function of a hotel is to make people comfortable. This isn’t a bad hotel. It’s in a good location. Staff are friendly and it’s clean. It’s just uncomfortable and more like a youth hostel. An expensive one at that. The rooms are odd. They have a glass shower cubicle next to the bed and a separate cubicle for a toilet. The sink is in the main bedroom. There are no cupboards or wardrobes to store your clothes. Just 3 coat hangers and some hooks! Dump your stuff on the floor or live out of your bag!! The bed is low and uncomfortable with a pillow as thin as a wafer. The light switches are sensor type and fiddly and the air con was difficult to use. I absolutely hated my stay. Breakfast was ok. Not a vast selection but I suppose it’s difficult to cater for all tastes.

Hey Sunshine, thanks for taking the time to review your stay with us. We're delighted to hear you appreciated our central location in the heart of Zurich as well as our healthy breakfast and friendly, down-to-earth service. As part of our Lean Luxury philosophy, we do some things differently from other hotels. For instance the layout of our rooms and the way that they're furnished. All of our rooms are carefully designed to make the best use of the space, and we put a lot of emphasis on the quality of the materials we use. The frosted-glass loo and all-glass shower aren't everyone's cup of tea, but they save space and help keep our rooms light and bright. We know our rooms are a little unconventional, which is why we put plenty of photos on our own and our partners' websites. ß We hope you'll give us another chance sometime and stay with us again.
