I found the Elite to be a great value for SW! I wonder if some of the bad reviews may be because of the particular room booked? We stayed 5 nights on the top floor in a “superior room with furnished (table & 2 chairs) balcony & lake views”; these rooms DO have Air con! & some others do too, but not all! & we DID need it!
The lobby (semi private room) is set off from the reception desk with 5 sofas & 2 coffee tables. Would be great to spread out & relax here before or after checkout.
The front desk crew was able to give my husband a small bag of ice every night❤️
The breakfast was included 0630-10 (little later on WE): breads, meats, cheeses, hard boiled eggs, milk, OJ, yogurts, granola, cereals. & the server will bring a pot of coffee or tea to your table too (this part is Not self serve so no running down to grab a cup to bring back to your room before coming down to eat) this was a GREAT value once you see the $ of food in Lausanne!!!
Location: go strait out of train station, cross the st & ahead you will see The Stairs…once up, you are there OR exit train & look left..head towards the McDonalds & take a rt there which begins the steep incline & the next rt to Elite(with incline too).
The outside garden: loved it! 1 table with a few chairs & then another identical set further set back by the trees. (The loungers with umbrellas weren’t there as seen in previous pics)
Swiss receptacles: they were recessed at Elite except for the one in the bathroom that Could accept the EU plug. Also on the back of the tv, there was a usb plug to charge.
I’ve been to Lausanne before & Elite far surpassed my last hotel in value/$/comfort!

The hotel Elite is perfect. So quiet and restful and yet only 5 minutes walk from the train station and the city attractions. You get a free metro and bus pass too. The hotel is spotlessly clean and traditionally decorated with good quality furnishings, bedding and towels. The breakfast, which is included, is great with lots of cereals, bread, croissants, pain au chocolate, cheese, jam, honey, boiled eggs and cold cooked meat. Excellent value for money. We will return.

Location and value are this hotel's strong points, but it's very retro (read; old), badly in need of updating. I worried the place might catch fire. We appreciated the close location to the train station, and free Metro to the lakefront to visit the Olympic Museum. We also appreciated that there was a third bed - in a room part of ours - for our son. A door closed between them. The air conditioning served one side but the bigger bedroom. Breakfast was ok. The front desk staff wasn't particularly warm and friendly.

The old style hotel back to 60er, the lift tells you the history, manual lift door and take two normal size guests. The location is google map look just a few meters from Lausanne Main station, but remember, you need to climb 66 steps and another 50 meter mild inclination to reach the hotel. The room is nice and huge, double door in the room that means fewer noise. The bed is moderate and bathroom is clean and ample of space to move around. The lobby is small but still acceptable with some chairs. The location is good near station and metro, but remember the 66 steps. Or you can also make a turn to walk down hill. Some restaurants nearby, but more restaurants at old town. The public transportation is free for tourist. For the price €134 without breakfast is not cheap, and Switzerland is not cheap. Will not recommend for those with walking difficulty except you drive.

My 21 year old son and I stayed two nights in August. I had specifically asked for two beds that could be separate for obvious reasons. I booked directly with the hotel as I always do so. We received a room with one double bed and were told at reception that the rooms with two twin beds were occupied. It’s not the end of the world but it’s annoying. The room was clean, a bit dated and quite warm as there is no a/c which I expected would be the case. The location is great very near Lausanne Gare station. The breakfast was ok - it would have been nice to have some fruit offerings. All in all ok.

We stayed three nights at this hotel at the recommendation of our travel guru, Rick Steves. A beautiful, classic hotel located in the heart of Lausanne. I know some people enjoy modern and updated hotels, but i found the vintage decor to be charming. The rooms were basic and very clean, and the included breakfast was plentiful. We rented a car and the hotel had easy, free parking out front. The hotel is in walking distance to all the shops and restaurants.. just beware that Lausanne is very hilly and walking up some streets presented a challenge!

The hotel is absolutely spotless and the free parking is great bonus. The rooms are quite large and the reception correct. If you are nostalgic about the 1970s then you will love the hotel; it is a functioning museum piece that still works. There have been no structural improvements made to the hotel in the last half a century from the built-in radio sets, wall carpets, climb-into bathtub to have a shower to a very old lift which can squeeze two people this place does not believe in investing too much in modernisation. If it's air con that you're looking for in 35° heat, forget it. The breakfast was very basic, no yogurts or fresh pasties, no fresh fruit or cold meat selection. It doesn't leave much. Was this value for 250€ per night?

When choosing a hotel for 8 nights in Lausanne, a few things were important to me: quiet, safety, cleanliness and a helpful staff. I also had a very limited budget. Hotel Elite met all these criteria and more. It is very near the train station, in a part of town with a lot of nightlife. At times, the nearby café and cinema patrons and people walking by can be very lively and noisy at night (mostly on Saturday nights). The hotel went out of their way to make sure I was in a quiet area of the building. The rooms are immaculate and my bathroom had one of those flat overhead shower heads with perfect temperature and water pressure. Breakfast is included in the room price - all you can eat of cereals, various breads, cheeses, charcuterie, yogurt, brioches, croissants, orange juice, tea and coffee and all the trimmings. This was a great deal for me because after that feast, I could skip lunch, so I only needed to budget for dinners. There are reasonable and cheap places nearby for that meal; a Mc Donalds down the hill, a Manora (salad bar, hot buffet, etc. etc.) up the hill, and everything in between. Also, a Migros supermarket down another hill a couple of blocks. The hotel is Victorian and very pretty. The location is fabulous - just up the hill from the train, bus and subway station. The area is well lit and I never saw any crime. Finally, I can't say enough for the warmth and hospitality of the staff. They encouraged me to practice my French, yet all spoke English and were very helpful. I was traveling alone and they always were very welcoming as I would come home late at night every night from touring the region. If not busy, they'd chat, give advice and watch TV with you. I wanted a good workout every day in case I went overboard on sweets and ice cream. The location off Rue de Petit Chêne (a very steep grade) assured that! And if you're too tired to do the whole hill, there's a shortcut through the nearby Quark cybercafé-video arcade. Also, how could I forget to mention the break on price they gave me for staying a week - it was quite a discount. I stayed here Sept. 4-12, 2004. In summary, I highly recommend this hotel for its attention to detail, service, friendliness and location.

I travel frequently to Lausanne on business and have tried many of the hotels. The Elite proposes comfortable rooms (and beds), a very nice breakfast (included), impeccable housekeeping and a very friendly and helpful front desk and dining room staff, all in a very pleasant "residential" environment.
Travelling to and from Lausanne is mostly by rail from Geneva (there is no airport in Lausanne) so the hotel's location is a big plus for me, just a short walk from the train station. It is also very close to the town's central district, and a 15 minute walk from the lake.
After having tried many of the more expensive hotels in the area (and they can be very pricey) I have adopted the Elite, which provides me with everything I need, including high-speed WiFi internet service (for a fee). Lack of a gym or other fitness facility is compensated by geographical location... you can't walk anywhere without a steep hill to climb.
For an extended stay (more than 2 nights) avoid the small "single" rooms, that although very efficiently laid out, are small enough to drive you nuts, and have a single bed, up against the wall.
Last time I was there, I was given this small single room on the first night (it did however have a great view of the lake and the alps). When I mentioned the next morning that the room was really small (I was staying 9 nights) I came back that same evening and they had changed me to a larger room (I always get the same one !) and moved all of my stuff for me, and perfectly laid it out as I had in the first room ! The surcharge was less than 10 CHF per night, and well worth it.
All in all, a great deal.

This was our first trip to Lausanne for a conference. The hotel is a short, two block walk or climb from the train station. I say this because the city more steep than it is wide! It is located on a quiet, residential street with a lovely garden to the side. The staff is friendly and helpful. The breakfast was statisfying and served by a pleasant staff. Our room, rear fourth floor, was quiet and comfortable (the bed too) and well kept during our stay. Lake breezes and sun filled the room during the late afternoons.
The hotel is close to city bus stops and excellent restaurants, all within walking distance.
We stayed 6 nights and were very pleased with our choice of hotels. I would stay there again.
