Detailed Reviews
Our room was small by North American standards but certainly all you need.
Central location, near to the metro station (that you will use every day with the free transit pass issued by the hotel) is fantastic. We faced out on the quiet, mainly pedestrian street. There are lots of lively cafes close by and a small farmers market one day. We thought the breakfast was very good with ample variety.

Location of this hotel was within walking distance of the train station, restaurants and Lake.
Receptionist was lovely and very helpful and spoke excellent English. Hotel was a little quirky with breakfast room set like a dining car in a train.

There are many qualities to appreciate about this wonderful, small hotel:
People on the staff are helpful, accommodating, and knowledgeable.
It is very close to the train station but on a quiet street with good restaurants and shops nearby.
The lake and mountains are magnificent.
The rooms are comfortable and the breakfast is full of good choices.
Whenever I come to Lausanne, I will stay here.

My wife and I stayed at the Minotel AlaGare in March 2005. The location is second to none for exploring the Geneva Lake area. It is right BEHIND the train station on a very quiet street. (When arriving by train, leave the platform and go the opposite direction away from the main station and you will be on the hotel's street). The walk is about 3 minutes. The room was small but adequate. The room was clean and quiet. The breakfast simple but of very high quality. The staff was prompt and helpful. Best of all, the price was very reasonable and their 3 for 2 deal is great. See their website. There are two full grocery stores a block or so away and the hotel is in the middle of the upper town and Ouchy.
Enjoy

We stayed here on our driving tour through Europe and although it was not the worst, it was close. We used tripadvisor before booking and based on the existing comments thought it would be good. We have travelled quite extensively and do not consider ourselves to be overly fussy - however this hotel did leave something to be desired.
Whilst the reception staff were indeed very helpful and the room was visually appealling to start with, it did back onto the train station and these could be heard through the night, at least from our room. The fact that we had some rowdy neighbours probably didn't help. Also in the morning the room smelt like the toilet had been leaking. Needless to say we vacated as soon as possible.
For breakfast we had to go down 1 lift and up another as there are 2 buildings. If you are non-smoker, be warned that smoking is permitted at breakfast which can make breakfast unpleasant. Also the breakfast staff seemed to ignore everyone while they ate their own breakfast and smoked.
Be warned if driving that car parking can be difficult and NOT cheap (not that much is in Switzerland). There are 2 Car parks for the train station and 1 of them you have to pay double unless you are using the train and get your ticket stamped. Reception warned us of this so we could move the car, nevertheless the 'cheaper' public car park cost CHF22 for approx 14 hours.
A positive is the nice little restaurant next door which is well worth a try.

Tried to reserve a room for June vacation via hotel website. After first try failed, tried again, but did not notice that the dates of stay had been defaulted back to day after "today's date". When I got the reservation confirmation, I sent message to hotel that dates were incorrect and needed to be change. However, policy is that no cancellation allowed within 48 hours of date of stay. Since I wasn't going to show up (since I was still in the United States and my trip wasn't for three months), they charged me over $600. Unbelievable! Their attitude was basically, "too bad for you, you clicked the wrong button". It's not like they lost any revenue either--room was un-reserved prior to date of stay. Any business like that does not deserve your travel dollars.

Arrived 28/11 for 3 nights on 3 for 2 offer available from hotel.Took train from Geneva Airport F24 -40 mins to Lausanne. Hotel 2 mins from station tucked away in a quiet sidestreet. Reception small but staff brill helped out with bus info maps hairdryer etc. The room was big enough for the two of us and had sep toilet with basin and a shower room with basin so again very useful. Beds comfy duvet wonderful and the room warm. Tea and coffee making facilities saved on cash and the fruit and biscuits left for us on arrrival a lovely touch.
Breakfast was in a nice airy loft with usual continental fayre plenty of it and nice staff. The restuaurant next door was a bit smokey so we did not use.
I have stayed in many hotels throughout Europe and this comes near the top on value for money. Our room did not overlok the road but the road was so quiet I do not imagine it can be a big problem. We could hear the trains but not so as to disturb our sleep. If you do not want posh this is a treasure.
It is handy for trips by train. We did Montreux in 15 mins and then went up on the cog railway based in same station to Santa fantastic journey do it if you can and like heights!! Monteux Market really nice lots of it along the lake and nice food in the food tent. Geat shops too and the cake shops amazing. Evian by ferry from Lausanne was an easy 10 min walk and the journey lovely though evian not very exciting but again nice cake shops!! Olympic Museum OK and down in OUCHY which is pretty. Lausanne Centre is very nice shopping lots of it and interesting buildings. We left our cases in left luggage at the airport and went back into Geneva the E3 ticket from Geneva AIrport covers the train and your bus into town either for an hour of the day. Lovely city nice shops and a Christmas market there too.
An easy place to visit the people all very helpful and so easy to travel around .

I stayed in the Minotel with my fiancee for over a week and we thought it was great. It is in a decent location, right behind the train station, so is ideal as a base for travelling around. There are 2 main areas in Lausanne, the old town and the lakeside area, and the hotel is in between them, halfway up the hill. Our room was fab, really clean and comfortable and we had a kind of outdoor courtyard too. The staff are friendly and helpful and laid back, and it was very quiet too, mostly families and couples and no loud groups. It was good value in a pretty expensive place so overall highly recommended!!

I specifically reserved a room described as having air conditioning, was given a room without and told that only some rooms had AC, and that I had not reserved one with AC. (I was unable to verify what I reserved until I got home, and I did reserve AC.)
I arrived before checkin time and was told room wasn't ready, fair enough, but room wasnn't actually ready until 45 min AFTER posted checkin time.
Every time I asked overworked staff something she acted like she was annoyed. This included asking for my room key, asking to use the "business corner."
The "Business corner" means they lend you a laptop which you have to plug in, turn on, boot up in the lobby. Every time I needed to check email (twice a day) I had to do this and put up witht eh annoyed, begrudging reaction.
Only one person at the desk when a tour group was checking in! Most of the time a line of a few people to check in, check out, or ask for something. Maybe that explains the desk clerk's reaction. The desk is understaffed!
On the other hand breakfast was very good.
