We loved this place. Anyone who favors the quirky and unconventional will love it too. Le Chalet is definitely a B & B, not a hotel, and those who embrace the spirit of the house and its gracious proprietress will be amply rewarded. The building dates from the nineteenth century and the wood that frames the exterior lends Le Chalet the look of a haunted palace. The interior, however, has been beautifully refurbished and satisfies normal 21st-century expectations of comfort. Rooms are provided with sink and shower (one room has a bath) with toilet located a few steps down the hall. Our room (la chambre de l’écrivain, named for August Strindberg, a sometime resident) was open and sunny and after a day hiking along Lake Geneva we enjoyed relaxing on our room’s spacious balcony. The bed was large and firm and Wi-Fi signal (no surcharge) strong. Breakfast was generous and flavorful. Central Lausanne is a short bus ride away and the stop is just outside the gate. No charge for bus and subway with the complimentary Metro Card. Port of Ouchy and the Lake Geneva shoreline are just down the street. Swiss lodging can be expensive but nightly rates for this privileged location are very reasonable.

Le Chalet, the new BB, is not the same establishment at the Hotel which is also reviewed here. The BB just opened in January 2013, so all those negative reviews of the Hotel are not relevant. The BB is beautifully decorated, comfortable, and well worth the price. The owner is a charming, wonderfully generous and interesting person (multi-lingual as well), and all the staff are as friendly as can be. The breakfast is ample and of high quality. And this building, a nineteenth century rambling mansion once occupied by the playwright August Strinberg, is quirky and interesting, with a balcony & outdoor chairs for each of the three rooms. You can reserve this on the BnB-Switzerland site--I am not aware of it it appearing on any of the major booking sites. It's right near both a bus stop and the metro stop down at the beachfront. It's also quiet--no street noise, with a lovely garden and various places to sit in the garden. I recommend this BB whole-heartedly.

We chose this B&B because of the excellent reviews and as far as the location is concerned, they were well deserved. However, the rest of Le Chalet was a great disappointment. It is very old and in much need of renovation, particularly the creaky old floors. Despite having to take your shoes off at the entrance, every single movement can be heard. Our room (the Yellow Room) was very nicely decorated as was the shower room although the toilet seat kept falling off. Other than 3 shoe shine packets there were no complimentary toiletries, not even a small bar of soap to wash your hands with. There was also no hairdryer. But most disappointing of all was the breakfast. Very sparse and uninteresting. We were given one knob of butter and the cupcakes were literally rock hard. Other than at breakfast time, we only glimpsed the family running the place. It was also very expensive for what we got. The place has a lot of potential but needs a lot of TLC.

We have now been waiting for more than a month for the refund of the balance after which we had to cancel the trip as a result of an accident. We continue to be put off and we are no longer sure if the Chalet d’Ouchy will return the amount owed to us without a debt collection.
An extremely tedious thing that casts doubt on the seriousness of the accommodation. Looks nice, but customer service is beyond good and evil.

A nice place but has no constant housekeeping services or reliable internet. A few times housekeeping walked in with no knocking, and several times I had to wait outside till someone opens the entrance door. I left silver earrings and no one bothered to contact me when I left.

Stayed with friends all visiting Lausanne for a birthday. Stayed in the African suite. Lovely furnishings, possibly the most comfortable mattress ever. Breakfast was lovely too.

Easy walk to the pier and the ferry. Not much further to town centre either.

Great place and would thoroughly recommend.

The stay at Le Chalet d'Ouchy was wonderful. I stayed at La Chambre jaune (the yellow room), which was beautifully decorated with paintings and fabrics. The bathroom was modern and spotlessly clean. I didn’t mind that the WC was located at the end of the hallway, which was next to my room. The yellow room had a balcony, and if I could suggest something for the owners of the house, it would be that they upgraded the balcony as it didn’t have the same high standard as indoors. The staff was very polite and friendly, and the atmosphere of the house was relaxed and peaceful. Le Chalet is ideally located near both the city center and Lake Geneva. I would definitely recommend Le Chalet.

a place with charm and a nice welcoming atmosphere. The house is really old and they are working on getting it progressively redone,,as it is literally a historical monument in Lausanne. A nice family owns and runs it.

A historic home, well-renovated and comfortable rooms. We were out walking and eating so we did not use the common rooms which were less obvious than other B&B’s I’ve stayed in. Breakfast was a good solid meal with eggs, bacon, yogurt, cheese, meats, toast and muesli. The hostess was helpful and friendly, spoke excellent English and made us feel welcome. The train is a very short walk away, so we were able to explore the lakefront and easily go up to visit the cathedral and cone back to stay for the night. I would happily stay here again!

If you want to spend a romantic weekend by the lake Geneva, it is the best place you can choose! The house is really a former old “Chalet” and it is close to public bus and metro (both 2 min walk), as well as to the lake Geneva and there the Lausanne’s main passenger port dock, Lausanne-Ouchy (2-3 blocks). And you cannot imagine nicer and cleaner rooms. That’s why you have to take off your shoes when you enter. We chose the cheaper room without own bathroom and used the one at the end of the hallway, but we didn’t have to really share it with anyone as if we got it only for ourselves. And the bathroom is modern, spacious and super-clean. Our room itself had a terrace (outdoor balcony) and a winter garden (indoor terrace), both with nice views. You feel like in a fairy tale – fluffy duvets, dainty furniture, colorful paintings. We didn’t even want to go out. And the wi-fi worked fine, too. We were also amazed with the breakfast: you get the best green (or any) tea, and you get fruit-juice and you make your toast with eggs yourself, or you get cornflakes, yoghurt, milk, jam and fruit selection, all you need. You can also make a tea and coffee in your room. The Chalet’s staff is pleasant – young international students. The door officially closes at 11 pm, but you just ring the buzzer or call denoted phone number in case you come later, which is perfectly fine and usual. You can reserve a room through http://www.bnb.ch/. Btw: Also with Hôtel Le Chalet, as well as with any other accommodation you are officially registered with in Lausanne, Geneva and most of other municipalities around the lake, you have a free public transportation for the length of your stay.

How far by train from Zurich?
Answer from GoPlaces692677
If you take the IR train from ZurichHB via Bern its a little over 2 hours. But if you want a real adventure take the train to Zweisimmen and then hop on to the Golden Pass Train to Montreux. If you have the time I would highly recommend it! Hope that helps.

How close to train station? How long would it take to get to you by train in Zurich?
Answer from GoPlaces692677
when you get to Lausanne head to the subway which is across the street and take the #2 train to Jordils. From there its 500 meters away. As far as time from the Lausanne Train station I would say 10 minutes.
