Our stay was wonderful from the moment we arrived to the moment we departed. The decor is a wonderful balance between modern and yet using a lot of natural materials to give a slightly rustic feel. The rooms and common areas were spotless and the staff were all very friendly and helpful with their advice, from jogging trails to restaurant suggestions. The views over Zermatt and of the Matterhorn did not disappoint. We will definitely be back.

Dear Re W, Thank you very much for your review and kind words! It was a pleasure to have you visit our family-run hotel on the outskirts of Zermatt. Our location uphill above the village indeed provides for some unique views over the Matterhorn as well as the whole village at its foot. We are very glad that you got to savor those views during your stay in Zermatt! We are also very pleased to hear that you liked our decoration. We designed and furnished all rooms by ourselves and you are right that everything is made from natural materials. Our idea was to mix wood and steel to create a unique blend of the traditional Alpine style with a sophisticated modern design, in order to create a neat yet homey atmosphere. Therefore, we are extremely happy to hear your comments, as it means that we were successful in our efforts! 😊 We are looking forward to welcoming you again and wish you all the best in the meantime. Family Taugwalder & team

We loved our 5 nights stay at AlpenLodge!
We were served a very rich and tasty breakfast – with berries, fruits, breads, meats, local super tasty cheeses, cake, coffee, everything you can think about. Beautiful design, handmade by the owners (the furniture, lighting décor, etc.). We had a free upgrade to a bigger room with balcony and breathtaking view to the Matterhorn. We enjoyed it in the morning and in the sunset.
They did laundry for our clothes just for 10 CHF.
The facilities in the room are all new and high end.
The mattress was a bit soft for me, but great for my partner.
The hospitality is exquisite – always with a smile, very helpful, attentive, the tips for the hikes were great!
It is 10 min walk from the center and it was perfect for us – the view is perfect! We were close to all the facilities, but enjoyed our serenity.
The SPA is a special treat – beautifully designed, most of the time we had it solely for ourselves. The finish sauna and steam sauna, with a spacious relaxation lounge, with fresh drinking water and small snacks, music, comfy futons and spectacular view of Matterhorn.
The hotel gives free vouchers for a taxi from the train stations and back – thank you, that was very helpful.

2 nights during the week, double room boutique. The whole hotel is tastly decorated, modern but very nicely done.
Direct reservation is cheaper than through any other booking service. On the way to Zermatt a call to the hotel will assure a free e-taxi transfer (with minimal stay of 2 nights).
We could see the Matterhorn from the bed! Great breakfast with lot of choices. We enjoyed the zen atmosphere of the relaxing spa after a day of trekking.

Dear sib-1802, Many thanks for your lovely review! We are very glad to hear that you liked the style and decorations of our hotel. All rooms as well as common spaces in our family-owned hotel were designed and decorated by ourselves, including all our furniture, which was created by us from natural materials. We believe that its unique style, a daring mix of traditional Alpine-chalet style and a modern steal design, makes for homey yet sophisticated atmosphere. We are very happy that you were able to find relaxation and bliss after long days of hiking - be it during a relaxing sauna session in our zen spa or simply by relaxing in your room and treating your eyes and soul to some stunning Matterhorn views. 😊 We are also pleased that you liked our breakfast buffet. It is very important for us to rely on local products and homemade goodies as much as possible. We hope to be able to welcome you in Zermatt again soon! With our best regards, Family Taugwalder & Team

Perfect south facing location overlooking the town of Zermatt with unparalleled views of the Matterhorn. In the winter you have sunshine on the balconies up to 4 pm. For views and sunshine this definitely the best area of Zermatt. It’s only a few meters away from the official Zermatt viewpoint, which should tell you all you need to know. The service has been great and all the staff are super attentive all the way. Breakfast with local delicacies is great as well as the sauna and steam bath facilities. The taxi pick up service to the hotel from the train station makes for a very smooth arrival. The same applies when you are leaving. Zermatt is car free so you have to walk a few mins into town to go to a restaurant or visit shops but we actually enjoyed those little walks. In the winter you can ski in but you have to know exactly where to leave the piste. Once you know it it’s easy. All of the premises feel well put together and solid, good materials. We can really recommend this place!

The hotel is really up a long and winding upwards slope so if you are thinking that you could easily roll your luggages to this hotel, think again. Walking to and fro Zermatt is a pain and breakfast is basic. No complains about the room though. Booked a family room with a view of the Matterhorn and boy does it have good views of the Matterhorn! You just need to pray for good weather during your stay and you will be rewarded, although I am sure there are also hotels out there that provides views of the Matterhorn.

My fiancée and I stayed at the Alpenlodge for 3 nights and really enjoyed our stay . We were picked up and dropped off at the rail station for free. The hotel was very clean and the the view of the Matterhorn from our room was beautiful . All the staff were so accommodating especially one woman working in the afternoons, I unfortunately can’t recall her name but she was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was incredible and There was a good variety to choose from . We relaxed in the spa area using the sauna , steam room and the yen room and felt energised after it . The hotel was about a 10 - 15 minute walk from the town . I would definitely recommend this hotel .

Alpenlodge is a nice little hotel in a wonderful quiet location. Inside the lodge, it's very clean and well equipped with elevator to reach guest rooms. Walking to center of Zermatt town only takes minutes. Staffs are very kind and help to arrange transportation to/from the town as needed and with a huge discount. We could feel the staff's kindness way before our arriving. Questions answered with no delay. From the unit we stayed, I believe most of the units in Alpenlodge, overlook Zermatt town with Matterhorn in the center background. Bathroom is nice and clean with heated floor. Breakfast is decent with many different choices. We definitely recommend this place to stay when visiting Zermatt.

We had the best stay at the Alpenlodge in Zermatt. The looking is great and the hotel has everything you need. We made a lot of use out of the welness which made us super relaxed after skiing the entire day.

Thanks so much for taking such good care of us. We will be back next year for sure :)

Nice view, Nice room with lots of amenities, breakfast was nice. Very cozy interior design. Very far from the city center because it has a beautiful view of the Matterhorn. However, the hotel provided a taxi if you stay more than 1 night. A friendly and helpful receptionist. It was a memorable stay.

The only downside is no COVID19 regulations applied in the hotel which is quite risky and scary during Winter holidays 2021. Staffs did not wear protective masks and did not ask for Covid certificate from guests when checking in! Other guests also did not wear masks when taking the food from breakfast buffet! The only hand sanitizer found was at the entrance of a hotel, not in breakfast area.

We had a lovely stay at Alpenlodge. It's a boutique hotel so it's quiet and the staff is great. The rooms were clean and the furniture all through the hotel is so nice, much of it handmade. The staff were very nice and helpful. Breakfast was good but the presentation was even more amazing. The way they serve everything is so quaint. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone. As others have mentioned, it is up a hill so you will always have to walk up and down, but they do offer a taxi from the train station when you have luggage. We also enjoyed the Zen Spa (sauna, steam, meditation room).

Dear Jenn B, Thank you very much for your interest in the Alpenlodge. The transportation from the train station or the taxi entry of Zermatt is included on check-in and check-out, from a stay of 2 nights on. We hope that this answers your question and we would be happy to welcome you soon at the Alpenlodge. With kind regards from Zermatt Deborah Taugwalder

Dear allsizzlenofizzle. Yes, the bathrooms in all our rooms have a separate door. It is only in the Junior Suite and our four-bed-room, where shower and bath tub do not have a door. They are situated in a different part of the room, a little separated by walls. The toilet does always have a door to close. I hope this answers your question! Best regards from the Matterhorn village! Maxi (Receptionist)

Dear Jason TsaiTW Thank you very much for your message. The family rooms are equipped with one double bed and two bunk beds. Theoretically it is possible to stay in the family room with 5 people, if the smallest one sleeps in the bed of the parents. But I am not sure if your parents want to stay in the bunk beds? Probably not. Our Maisonette four-bed-room has two double beds, one on each floor. I think this is much better for your family. I hope this answers your question! With best regards Maximilia Nitsche Front Office
