Zermatt is a great skiing resort and this hotel is great because the location is just so central. It’s 200m away from the Zermatt train station that you would have taken from Tasch. It is also around the same distance to the train that will bring you to Gornegrat so you would not need to lunge your skis very far. I have not even got in to any of the little taxis because the location is great. The walk to the tram up to Sunega is also a short 5 minutes walk. The Zermatt Main Street is just up the road and a Denner is close by too.

As we visited during the pandemic, the breakfast will be served and I would highly take the 7am slot as the 8am slot was a huge long wait and you really want to get on the slopes early. Dinner is optional since you cannot get table service unless you are guest, the food was surprisingly good and our male waiter is superb with his recommendations on wine and beer. The zermatt beer is sure to fit the British palate.

The service is very charming too. The staff met our every needs and Samantha on the front of desk has been charming. She even asked on the day we checked out if we needed to use the amenities after we skied. I have to say the team is just charming.

The only thing is the spa. We loved it but it needs someone to monitor the entry. The limit is 18 people but there was a big family or possibly friends who dominated the spa. Also some are entering from the other side and no one is managing the entry so should be something they manage better.

All in all a lovely stay and I would definitely come back the next season

Just steps away from the train station and just steps to the Gornergrat train that takes you high up into the Swiss Alps (over 10,000 feet elevation) with awesome views of the Matterhorn and Zermatt. Each room has it own balcony and is spacious with a modern bathroom and shower. My room was in the back of the hotel so it did not have a view of the Matterhorn but the view was still quite beautiful. The front desk staff were extremely nice and helpful. I would definitely stay here again. There are no cars in Zermatt except electric busses and taxis but the whole town is completely walkable.

Ambassador Zermatt is a bigger inventory hotel compared to many other 4 star hotels in Zermatt. It is tucked at the back of the Zermatt Train Station slightly away from the main street which is good if you prefer a “quieter” accommodation as opposed to hotels that are smacked in the heart of the main street.

Honestly, the website looks better than the real hotel. In the website, it is stated “All our standard double rooms have a balcony with a view of the breathtaking mountains” whereas mine, look at someone’s backyard. Not very impressive and it is a disappointment.

The room has been renovated, but still the bathroom is very tiny. Though there is a balcony but mine has no view hence I did not even bother to go outside.

There is no AC in the room but the air in Zermatt is cool and fresh hence I open the door throughout the night to let the fresh air comes in.

To view the Matterhorn, it is best to walk to the main street and head towards the Church.

The hotel has a very nice indoor swimming pool, but I was busy with other activities, and I did not have the chance to use it.

The breakfast is just OK, I would expect it to be better as I mentioned it is a slightly bigger inventory hotel and I would expect the spread to be much better.

Out 3rd time staying here and for good reason. It’s excellent!

The staff are all friendly and chatty, a lovely bunch of people

The half bored dinning experience was what made the stay. The food was excellent and I would have been happy to pay £40 per person for it back in the UK.

Rooms were well equipped and peaceful

The spa is also worth a visit (we did every night). Again it is spotlessly clean and well kitted out

Would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone! Absolutely faultless!

Only 3 minutes walk from the station, hence well-connected. But on a quiet sidelane, no road/railway noise to speak of.
Rooms good; we had a suite (spacious and worth the extra) hence can't say that much about the normal ones though they look fine. Maintenance and cleaning so-so; we had a damaged balcony door, and the daily cleaning did not refill the coffee-tea (Nespresso) and the soap dispenser in the shower. Nice modern pool with jacuzzi. Breakfast is 2 stars at most: exactly 2 hot dishes (eggs and bacon) and limited choice of breads, in a windowless basement room instead of their ground floor bar/restaurant. Reception and restaurant service okay, as is the WiFi. Overall score something between 2 and 3 stars, which means that generally it's overpriced claiming to be 4 stars.

Our trip to Switzerland this winter started in Zermatt, where we stayed at this hotel. The train ride from Zurich to Zermatt is long and seems even longer when you've had an eight hour flight. Hence we were eager to get to the hotel and kick off our footwear and relax. Fortunately, the hotel is just a five minute walk from the Hauptbahnhof.

The entrance to the hotel is hidden by an edifice and the driveway is quite steep. The presence of slush and ice can make traversing it a slightly adventurous experience. Adding a couple of reasonably filled suitcases can only compound that experience.

Check in was very quick and the staff at the front desk are extremely helpful and have a very cheerful demeanour. We were a little surprised that we had to wheel our suitcases to our room by ourselves. The elevator was a slightly tight fit.

We had a two room suite since we were three of us. The apartment was very spacious, a sitting area with its own TV with satellite channels included. A master bedroom and a little anteroom provided ample sleeping space. Two single cots in the anteroom meant a slight reduction in space, but it was nothing to complain about.

Breakfast is spartan, with very minimal vegetarian options. The dining area seemed a little understaffed, and it was not uncommon to see the staff scurrying around with a harried expression on their face. This did not, in any way, interfere with their service, which was invariably polite and prompt. There is frugal a la carte menu on a chargeable basis.

Our room overlooked the courtyard and vistas of the mountains and the Matterhorn were a highlight. The appearance of this famous peak was quite bewitching in the morning sunlight.

The room was extremely well kept and clean and there was plenty of storage space. The hotel is barely a stone’s throw from the terminus for the train upto Gornergrat. While it is on the main street of Zermatt, it is a little off the centre of action. This lends it a relative peace and quiet.

We were there for two nights. The night prior to our departure witnessed some snowfall and the morning was rainy. The driveway seemed quite slippery and seemed to assume an obstacle course of gargantuan proportions. However, there were staff on hand that promptly cleared the slush. The hotel also provided us with a shuttle to the station, so that were not really distressed by the weather.

All in all we had a fairly enjoyable stay here, though we would have preferred a better breakfast

We had a family suite for the four of us (2 adults, sons aged 22 and 24) for two days. Arriving from the train station was a quick walk. Our room had a great view off the balcony of the Matterhorn and we enjoyed beautiful clear weather the entire time! We have plenty of open cabinets to stash our luggage and belongings! Love the huge Swiss cabinets that keep the living space so tidy! Staff happily stored our luggage so we could have lunch and explore before check in. Our bags were delivered to our room already when we returned at 3 pm. Our boys room was a bit tight as they're close to 6 feet but they were still comfortable. The front desk staff was welcoming and so helpful. They even helped us with a change of plans/cancelling hotel rooms in french in Montreux very efficiently. Breakfast was great-loved the delicious spanish tortillas de patata reminiscent of my study abroad days in Malaga! We thought breakfast on the lower level was nice-spacious room and attentive staff w/plenty of choices. Our boys were able to easily rent skis and helmets right downstairs from a very helpful consultant and the lift to Gonergrat is an easy walk. We enjoyed the sauna (super hot!) and the jacuzzi although it wasn't really hot enough. Pool is nice. We were very happy with our hotel and recommend it highly! Pro Tip -Take the red bus by the Gonergrat station to Winkelmatten. Find the trail behind the church and hike about an hour and a half up to Findeln. Hike is uphill w/plenty of switchbacks and benches to rest on. Have lunch at Findelhof Restaurant in the shadow of the Matterhorn. Fantastic day!

We love the Ambassador Hotel 🏨 Centrally located 2 minute walk from Zermatt train stations and 10 minute walk with skis from Sunegga ski train. We had a large suite at the top of the hotel with a lovely Matterhorn view balcony, that got the sun when we came home from skiing. Very spacious and perfect for a family. Food is excellent. Breakfast served at table with continental, cooked & veggie options available. Varied 3 course meal in the evenings with fish & meat options. Veggies are catered for. Nice bar for relaxing in, good drinks list and tapas available. Swimming pool & spa is very clean but busy when we were there. Reception staff went out of their way to help us when we needed them. Restaurant staff where very friendly. Lorenzo & Javier were very attentive in the evenings. You can rent skis directly from hotel. Good COVID precautions. We’ll be back and would highly recommend.

The plus point is that its near to the railway station.
The staffs are rude. Not much options for vegetarians in the breakfast menu.
We asked them to make some veg options for us but initially they said nothing can be done. Later, inspite of giving them a prior information about we not eating eggplant since our religion does not permit us to do so they prepared saute vegetables for us with eggplant for us. Without any arguements we left the saute vegetables and on the day of check out they charged us for saute vegetables that was on complimentary breakfast by claiming
U didn’t eat vegetables and was very rude to us
It’s not about charging 5 franc
We already paid pax 1000 franc for 3 days stay
5 franc doesn’t matter to us
But they were really rude
All the staffs were rude

The rooms are like a 2 star hotel bnot good since the balcony door is almost at the verge of falling on our head
Please b careful of the door stopper at the enterance of the reception. I fell on the floor.
I am just sharing my experience with the hotel
After a lot of arguement they manager apologised to us and returned the money since they were guilty of their mistake and they also asked us to give a very good review of the hotel

Hi Paul, We have just stayed at the Ambassador and its very close to everything. You can walk from the train on arrival to the hotel but they do have a taxi service. It's approximately 100mtrs to the main Gornergrat train line which takes you up the mountain or at the same spot there is a free bus that takes you to the other lifts -approx 5 mins ride. You don't ski in ski out but its all very easy to take the bus - you can leave your skis at the lockers at the lifts if you would like. The Hotel has its own ski hire shop with very good quality gear. I would recommend stay here. We thought it was a perfect location.

Hi,the nearest lift is 200 yards and the ski bus which links all the major lifts is the same. It is within walking distance. The hotel has its own ski hire shop and others are a 5 minute walk in the main High Street. It is not possible to ski to the hotel. Ski bus will return you to the stop 200 yards away or taxi will take you right to the door of the hotel. Hope that helps. Regards, Trevor Lee
