Great hotel
Don’t expect luxury but given the price point you know this already
The rooms are small but functional with everything you need for your stay including a great coffee machine that’s topped up daily.
Breakfast is well beyond what I was expecting and had cereals, meats, yoghurts, breads, cheeses, sausages, eggs and probably much more! Plus more really good coffee!

Located 5 minutes walk to Bayard ski rental, and an additional 1 minute to the Gornergrat railway taking you up onto the slopes
From the hotel, you can be on the train in under 10 minutes.

Staff are really helpful and allowed us to keep our bags there on the last day even though we’d checked out. There’s a quick lift to all floors.

I would highly recommend the hotel if your plans are to ski all day, go out on an evening and use it as a place to sleep. Would certainly return

Zermatt is absolutely stunning! This hotel made our stay amazing! Basic, comfortable rooms with a good bathroom. Window has a great view! Great guide to tv channels and hotel/Zermatt info in the hotel room. Staff are lovely and very helpful. Breakfast is brilliant including breads, cheese, meats, eggs, pastries/sweets, cereals and fruits. Coffee, tea and juice are also offered. Great location, very close to everything and not too hard to find if you follow the directions the hotel provides. I loved Zermatt and Switzerland and will be back in the near future, I will definitely be staying here during my next visit! :)

We had a lovely stay at this hotel. It is extremely well located, tucked away off the main high street in Zermatt. The room was clean and homely. The breakfast in the morning was great - the staff were very friendly, offering us tea or coffee as soon as we walked in the room. There were lots of different options for breakfast and it set us up well for the day of hiking!

Would love to return.

Quaint ….. the lift stops between floors rather than on floors, breakfast is next door and sometimes half board means they give you a rebate if the restaurant is closed. But there are plenty of restaurants nearby so you shouldn't really be booking half board anyway ....

But we rather liked Alpina nonetheless - little extras like a coffee machine and a litre of fizzy water, great location. Communal room for reading etc. Smallish bedrooms, good value for Zermatt.

Love this hotel! The room that we got is facing the alps and what a view! Room is spacious with 2 terrace. Wooden style from floors to ceiling, very clean and it’s heated. Breakfast is included, it’s just by the hotel beside it called Tannenhof, food was excellent. The hotel is very close to all shops and sights, the train station and Gornegrat railway station is like a 10 minute walk or less than 5 minute taxi ride (uniquely narrowed vehicle they use there). Will definitely stay on this hotel the next time we visit. Highly recommended, staff was great and very helpful!

The entry was hidden.

When we said we couldn't stay in the room that they gave us, they refused to give us our money back for the 2nd night that we had prepaid.

Beautiful small hotel tucked away in a cute, quiet little corner, off of the main street. Although Zermatt is a car-free village, it still sees it's fair share of taxis and service vehicles, so you are far from any street noise. It is an easy walk from the train station, and I was carrying two backpacks.

My lovely single room was on the third floor with a balcony, with stunning views of the Matterhorn above the roof tops. I opted for the shared bathroom which was just down a short flight of stairs and around the corner. I was aware of others on my floor, but never encountered anyone or ever had to wait for the wash closet. My single room had a sink with plenty of towels, the bed was comfortable and the thick down comforter kept me warm and toasty.

There are elevators to use, for those who dislike stairs. The lights in the corridors work on timers, just hit the button and they will go off automatically. You are given a code to let yourself in the front door for all the late-night party animals, there is also free wifi which works great, even when you are lying in bed. There is a cute little garden outside for sitting and relaxing, someone is always available to give excellent advice and the breakfast buffet was quite good and satisfying.

I had purchased a ticket for the Gornergrat Sunrise Summit on the internet, before I had arrived and was concerned about waking up in time. The lady at the front desk gave me a little alarm clock which woke me up at 5 AM, the appropriate time for me to rise and catch the Gornergrat Bahn.

My only regret is that I did not allow myself more time here. I arrived late on a Wednesday evening and left Friday morning. So much to do in Zermatt; the Gornergrat Bahn is very nice, if you are up for it, you can take the train up and hike back down to Zermatt. I did it my first day in Switzerland without any problems, other than a lot of stiff muscles and sore toes. I also hiked over to Z'mutt, which is a very pretty little 400 year-old village. An easy hike about an hour each way.

I usually stay at 4 or 5 star hotels around the world. But Alpina allowed me a shorter stay (three nights) during peak season when many hotels demand seven nights, and it's a very pricey village. So I stayed here and was absolutely thrilled with my experience. I had a small, single room with a bathroom a few doors down the hall shared with one other person (who I never saw). The room had a very sweet balcony overlooking the Matterhorn. It is very clean, with wifi, and the two sisters who run the hotel are so incredibly nice. The breakfast was good and plentiful. They have a room for your skis and another room where there's a boot warmer for the morning. I crashed into a snow bank and one of the sisters even gave me an ice pack and some kind attention after my injury. Definitely stay here. The hotel has been around for about 100 years and I can see why. It's also very, very reasonable and near everything. About a 7 minute walk to the train station and around the corner from the main street with restaurants, bars, etc. It's also very quiet here. Loved it!

Recently renovated, very clean, nice breakfast, and the owners were extremely kind and helpful. They were actually more helpful than the tourist office was. Highly recommended! Very centrally located, can walk to all Zermatt attractions easily from here, and close to the train station.

You can try as they're super helpful. However the hotel is only a ten minute walk from the train station (slightly uphill !) . There are also (electric) taxis that could take you there ... good luck !
